Instead of actually paying attention to the presidential debates (which was my homework for AP Government), I invited five friends over...and played the OFFICIAL Game of Thrones board game (House Martell! UNBOWED, UNBENT, UNBROKEN...mostly because the Targaryens aren't playable </3)

After watching Game of Thrones again with my brother, we've made some observations on the portrayal of the characters:
Book Cat > Show Cat -- Why? Show Catelyn is pretty much a glorified soccer mom. Book Cat is much more righteous and willful
Book Shae < Show Shae -- Why? Book Shae isn't as believable as Show Shae. Book Shae is the epitome of the Temptress archetype, and embodies the worst attributes of it
Book Daenerys < Show Daenerys -- Book Daenerys is thought of as entitled, annoying, and inexperienced among the community. Show Daenerys? She has everything Show Cat does not, but still retains her qualities from the book. (I am holding out on her first utterance of "I am but a young girl, and know little of the ways of war" PLEASE HBO)
Book Cersei < Show Cersei -- Why? Book Cersei is nearly one dimensional, lacking any mercy and often logic. Book Cersei is nearly a glorified Evil Disney Queen, experimenting before her assets are tapped out. Show Cersei is more human than Book Cersei. She shows emotions other than anger, annoyance, and arousal (thank the Seven...)
Book Jon = Show Jon -- Do I need to explain this? The amount of teenage angst makes me seasick. I honestly cannot stand it. JON PLEASE SIT DOWN, REALLY FOR YOU TO BE DOING THIS THOUGH.
Book Theon = Show Theon -- It is known.
Book Osha < Show Osha -- Why? In the show, Osha is a set up to be this wild, sexy, badass hellbent on saving her captors. In the book, she is less...enthusiastic.
Book Brienne = Show Brienne
Book Ned = Show Ned
Book Jaime > Show Jaime -- Why? Show Jaime just isn't droll like his Book counterpart. I find Nikolaj's attempt admirable but he just doesn't have a great sense of humor when being sarcastic in English...he's much better in films where he isn't speaking English

Agreed. Though I think some of the "flatness" you listed in characters is set to change in S3, what with it containing all that delicious plot-drama.
