Help me pick a new main.

Well I started playing SC5 trying to find someone whom in spirit, personality wise could fill the gap of Talim.

I played with Natsu for a while, made a CAS got okay with her, but honestly I keep getting smacked online because everyone knows her moves these days. Yeah I can still win sometimes but it doesn't make my heart all warm and fuzzy like winning with Talim did.

So I learned Aeon in one night and fought with em, I actually did better than I did with Natsu because not many people had fought em before, granted it was mostly against new players, I got schooled tonight pretty badly so began to learn Pyrrah.

Pyrrah is pretty fun, I like her more than I thought I would. I can't stand her personality though so I went for a CAS one. I'm still learning some of the execution and the mixups because she is about half as complex as Natsu it will probably take me a few days to learn her.

Of course one part of my mind is yelling at me about how cheap she is, of course so is everyone else in SC5 or so it seems so I need a cheap character too, right? It's been fun learning her, I can kinda get into it. I find her rising moves, except for her B+K to be a little weak though.

But yeah, if i wanted to play a character less played that might have some strategic things common to my old girl Talim then what would you guys suggest?

It's good to go through and learn other characters in any case, it helps me figure out what people will likely pull off on me better.

Good gaming all.

Pyrrha doens't really play like Talim at all (SC2 at least, I didn't really try her out in III and IV). Pyrrha has 0 mixups. Against competent players who'll block and punish your 1AA, 4AB, 4AAA, 4AAABE, 236AA, 236AABE on reaction, you'll need to rely on whiff punshing, step punishing, and unsafe punishing to do damage. She really is a very defensive type character in a lot of matchups.

Viola's good for mix-ups, pressure, and lengthy, flashy combos.
She has pretty low damage as well, so in theory she and Talim are similar?
It'd be at least worth it to dabble in her.

Yeah Xian, I kind of like a defensive play style but your right. If they know those moves, or how to step 66B A+B+K then there are less options. Most people don't know about 3 A+B yet, but yeah.

Basically I am looking for the road slightly less traveled :P gender does not matter as I just CAS a female for the most part, but all of my Aeons are male.. "Dragon Slayers" from Fairy Tail :P

Hm, to me this is casually discussing which character I may main.

Oh, Sarcasm? Understood :P

I think I may like Pyrrah because I feel like I am battling against myself less and more against my enemy, she is simple but has some alternate moves.

I will likely get bored of her before long and move onto another character.. I will wander aimlessly until I find Talim :P

Aeon seems like fun and I've seen very little of him used. Ironically my friend is also a Talim main and he went to Aeon, so who knows.

If you do want a little more mix up I'd try out Leixa, lots of gimmicky fake outs. But you already know, she's X-2 and probably doesn't appeal to you now if she didn't in the other four titles.

I'm thinking Raphael or Voldo might suit your interest. Raphael has tons of mixups and is stance crazy. I also find he's easier to pick up, too. Voldo is pretty much the same, as always. You could probably also look into Patroklos. I'm not the best with him, but I do manage to win matches with him.

And then, obviously, I'm going to suggest my three mains. Astaroth is extremely powerful, and if used correctly, can be somewhat hard to predict. Siegfried is slightly mindless, but can be great at punishing. And Nightmare is just a beast in SCV.

I'd say just experiment with the entire roster before going online. But I find the ones I suggested to be pretty easy to pick up.

yeah I ran into a super cheap voldo or two tonight, oh god the ground game...

For now Pyrrah is pretty fun, I am winning half the time with her which is what I hope to do as a semi casual player.

However your right, I do need to experiment, Hilde has always had my interest for example, and then there is Tira whom I heard from many Talim players that the followered of the wind who go astray tend to play her Tira.

Heehee, that would be me going back to Soul Calibur 4 and playing Talim exclusively.

Pyrrah is not a bad fit. I could always try Omega P, what is the biggest diff?

IF it helps any at all, my first love with fighting games was with a game called "Mace 3d" it was on my gamecube and I was very addicted. Like Soul Calibur it was a 3d weapon based fighting game.

My favorite character was Taria, a sorceress who fought with a longsword and a main gauche, then my second favorite was Lord Deimos, a demon in red armor with a mighty sword.

Did anyone else play those games? Man I would love to play Taria in Soul Calibur. She was good with a sword, but had these magic bolts and could do some short magic teleports, I know I am forgetting some moves but it made for some great times.

Ya know. Which character uses a lot of rolling forwards and back moves? I am always very fast with those.

Rolling forwards and back moves makes me think of Natsu to be honest with her wind stalker roll. But I remember enjoying Talim in SC II. With this game however, I've been enjoying Tira the most. I've already gone through Natsu, Pyrrha, Xiba, Leixia, and Nightmare, but Tira with her ever changing moods makes those perfect combos all the more sweeter. Plus I believe Tira is in good shape, competitively, among the character roster.

Hope you find what you're looking for! I will say this though, most people play several characters due to the amount of hours we tend to put in the game, so I would just keep fiddling around with Pyrrha while learning a second character.

Upon seeing the concept art I thought Z.W.E.I. would have some kinda connection to Talim but meh. Anyway I think he's a pretty good choice, for one he's a new character so it's basically a fresh start, plus I guess the fact his sword is kinda like Talim's elbow blades is another perk? xD I've played him a bit and he's pretty fun.
