[08] Mercenary
Hi everyone. Im new here ( and a nub on SC4 lol)
My favourite char is Nightmare and i need some help.
Can anyone tell me wich are Nightmares best moves?
Can u give a nub some hints? :aK:

Nightmare's pretty tough to learn. Before you start, make sure you read the Newbie Silencer to understand the notation we use. For a quick start you can go to the top 10 moves thread, and when you feel like some heavy reading take a look at Tiamat's NM guide.

If you're not really looking for overly complex gameplay strategies, I'll brief you on Nub NM 101: whoring Grim Stride (GS) and Night Side Stance (NSS).
  • Basically any move you do that leaves you in GS or NSS you can try to interrupt with GS :A: or NSS :K: afterwards.
  • Moves that leave you in GS include :3::3::B::6:, :1::A::6:, :6::6::K::6:, GS :B::6:, :3::A::2::A::6:... The nub game plan is if you hit with one of these attacks, good for you; you may now combo (see Tiamat's guide or this combo thread). On the other hand, if they are blocked or if you miss, you can try GS :A: to interrupt a counterattack from the opponent. GS :A: has good followups on Counter Hit (CH) and Neutral Hit (NH), and these you can find in one of the guides.
  • Moves that leave you in NSS include :3::Bh:, WR :Bh:, NSS :Ah:, :1::Bh:, :Ah:... The nub game plan is almost the same; combo if you hit, try to interrupt (with NSS :K: or NSS :bA:) if they block it or the attack misses.

The following aren't scrub techniques, but they are easy enough to apply.
  • Throw a lot.
  • When opponents are in your face, :6::K:, :1::K:, :3::K:, :6::6::K:, and :1::1::K: are good options.

As a closing note, learn the combos, watch some videos posted here, do a lot of reading; a lot of the useful information is already typed out here in this forum, you just have to spend the time to find the right thread and read it, and have fun. Welcome to the forums.

Thx
btw. i have a question about nightmares: A+B Soul wave : It leaves him in a bright shine.
Does that change any of the moves in unblockable moves like in SC3?

Hello and welcome!

There are no SCUBs (soul charge unblockables) in this game. Though after a successful soul charge (A+B, GS A+B, 2A+B attack throw), a lot of Nightmare's moves gain GB (guard break) status, such as 66B, 3B, NSS bA, and NSS A+B. Check Tiamat's guide for the detailed run down on the soul charge enhancements.

welcome to the forum, please do read my guide all the way through, you will find answers to many questions by doing that

If you have an xbox live account or a PS3 live account then that too would be a good way to play against us for some Nightmare practice. This can be pretty overwhelming for those who are just starting out, but don't get scared with the amount of stuff you can do, especially with Nightmare.

@eltoshan: thx. Didnt notice that 2A+B had the same effect ._.
@Tiamat: Awesome guide =D. One question: what does i14 - i15 mean?
@ BigRichez: i cant go online Yet. I wanna go online Asap.

i14 means that a move takes 14 frames to impact after it had been input. Basically a concept of how long a move takes to start up. FYI we rate the game in terms of 60 frames per second.

yeah, so if it is an i15 move, that means from the instant you press the button, it will take another quarter of a second for the attack to connect (because 15 is one quarter as long as a second, which is 60 frames)
