How to get up fast?

It feels like I'm constantly being smashed on the ground with no way to protect myself, all I can do is roll around, but not fast enough.

I use Mitsurugi.

Tap G and a direction when you hit the ground to ukemi ("tech roll").

Do I need to time it exactly when I hit the ground or can I do this when I am already laying on the ground being violated?

You can ukemi after being hit on the ground, yes. You have to get hit, though.

Either do it when you're flying through the air and you hit the ground, or do it after you get hit on the ground. Otherwise, all you can do is just stand up in place.

Keep in mind many times it's better to not get up so fast with ukemi though, especially against characters like Natsu who are just waiting to bomb launch you the moment you do.

Conversely, against characters with strong verts that hit grounded opponents like Mitsurugi you should be getting up and guarding ASAP.

Depends mostly on the match-up and your opponent's playstyle, of course.

You can mash input+G if you want to ukemi easily.
