How to maintain spacing?

I have a problem of not being able to get myself out of bad, close range situations. Most of the time this happens because I block an oncoming rush of attacks, then don't know what to do next. Often, because of my poor defense, I'll end up getting ringed out because I can't get myself away from the edge quick enough.

What are the best ways of regaining some space between Kilik and the opponent?

Well, Kilik has numerous options to keep an opponent from getting in your face. Some are:

22AB, 22_88 B, 2A+K, 2B, 2A, BPA, 22A,A, A+K, 4B

When in your face these may work:

1K, A+K, Kb, 2k, 4B, Asura

When grounded these help:

WSK, WSB.

When I'm able to keep my distance I do use a lot of the moves you listed. Though I'm not sure what BPA is...

My problem is I freeze up once they break that buffer zone and start wailing on me up close. I'm not yet good enough at GIing to go that route, but I can pick off a few obvious combos. From the videos I've been watching, it seems like most of the really good Kilik players like to use the Asura, unfortunately I don't yet have the muscle memory to pull it off consistently outside of training.

I would add 1B, 11B, and 6A, A, (A), and the entire MO stance to the "When in your face" list. MO K is 0 frames on block! What that means is if they block it immediately do something fast like 6A, A, (A). It almost always works. When they start catching on to the above tactic, follow up a blocked MO K with a throw for some mind games.

That is interesting to know about MO K. I usually avoid using MO when in close range because of how long it takes to get into the stance. I may have to experiment with MO K a little bit more.

I like to use 6B+K, as most people seem to try either a grab or a short range move when in that position. Unfortunately the step back has little effect when I'm backed up against the edge of the arena. I think I'm going to start mixing in WS A+B, G and WS A+B, K, though typically if I'm on the ground in a close range situation I'm able to get myself away fairly easily. Especially with WS B.

I think the biggest problem is my poor defense that leads to me misreading attacks. Still, not allowing opponents to consistently get within that range is something I really need to work on.

the ones i use most often are WS B, and 22_88AB... and sometimes a couple A+K's here and there...

but really, all you need is more WS B.

I guess this is the right thread for my following question:

Yesterday I was playing online against a Yoshi player. He used some move where he hit me with the back of his hilt and kept on doing this. And I found nothing I could do against it. All the moves I did got countered because they were too slow.

Usually when I meet a spammer like this I 1k or BK 6B. Yet these seemed too slow against this move :(

Back of his hilt....hmmmm..maybe you mean his bA Slide, on counterhit there is an animation where he slides through you, with flames and all that...is that what you mean?

bA has pretty crappy range, its just good on counterhit, so you really should not attack when you are in disadvantage after he blocked one of your moves...if you keep playing concentrated, this should not be a problem. You can Asura it, you can use evasive mooves like 1B or 4B+K....etc etc

Maybe you mean 6A+BBBBB, called the "Doorknocker", Yoshimitsu keeps on hitting you a few times, like knocking on a door ;) Here, you can Asura the last Hit. Or you can Backparry Aut GI ANY Hit you want (214) and then just punish him. Try it in training modus, since there are some range aspects. Or you can just Step G the last Hit.

But maybe you talk about 6B, which is a counterfisher and safe. But once again you can use Asura against it, its not a body attack.

You really have to check which move you mean, than i can give you some specific advice.

I'll go into training mode tonight (when I have acces to my ps3) and see what move it is. Thanks for the quick reply

So I tested searched the move he did and it just appeared to be 6B and 6A+BBBBB. But mostly just 6B.
You said I can asura this, but it appears to be faster than my asura (or I had lag problems, wich would surprise me with 4-5bars)
