If this character were new, what would the reaction be?

Nyte

Fu-ma's Shadow
The longtime veterans are loved in part because they're just that -- veterans, characters who built the series and ones we've grown up with. Newcomers can receive all kinds of responses for being new, ranging from good to bad, and are always stacked against the veterans in terms of how good (or bad) they are. That said, let's take off the goggles for a second and imagine if the characters that have been staples of the series for so long were introduced now, how the audiences would react to them.

I'll start:
  • Nightmare -- He'd probably get a lot more jokes about being an edgelord (like Reaper in Overwatch), though he'd still be seen as badass.
  • Taki -- Pretty well-received for being an adult kunoichi who's also sexy.
  • Talim -- Would cause a massive amount of controversy in today's PC infecting era.
  • Ivy -- A similar boat. You'd see websites like Kotaku shaming PS for introducing a dominatrix-themed character in 2018.
  • Maxi -- "Why does the Bruce Lee clone have Elvis hair?"
  • Voldo -- A lot of people would get weirded out pretty fast.
  • Mitsurugi -- Probably nothing major, they'd just see him as a standard samurai.
Discuss.

Mitsurugi -- oh cool Haohmaru is in it. Wait that's not him. This game sucks
Siegfried -- sigh another cloud clone
Lizardman -- excepted by the scaly community
Li long -- lol knifes on nunchaku, thats so stupid I love it

PC infecting is only a small minority, and they might only be upset about Talim if she's wearing close to nothing which would (and should) probably happen in any era.

I was referring to the overly whiny websites complaining about "objectification" like Kotaku.

I think a lot of that controversy is overhyped. Drama and exaggerating language overshadowing potentially good points, and then some people who disagree also overreacting and ignoring any good points.

Anyways to contribute

Mina would be be seen as farming/kitchen/girlnextdoor waifu.
Viola would be seen as anime Menat.
Amy would be seen as a Persona spin off.
Voldo would be seen as appealing to the freakie deekies of Tokyo Underground as it is now, but some might also attribute to appealing to liberals of Northern California.
Mitsu people would be confused why a standard japanese swordsman was not included earlier so people would be super excited.
Maxi would be seen as the new instagram fitinspo star.

It sounds pretty much EXACTLY to the reactions when they appeared for the first time XD
