Le Bello's Challenging Create-A-Soul Challenge Contest!

Haha, you know me, I'm not the angry type.

But as a reminder, voting begins ON THE TENTH and ends ON THE FIFTEEN. Any votes made before that will be ignored. Anyone voting twice before that will have their vote discounted.

heheheheheheheh

Too bad the new DLC has almost nothing that would help the entries, otherwise the wait would've been interesting. Well maybe it would help one entry.

Can we at least make pointless alternate versions of our entries to make them.. more lovable :<?

Only if you delete the original, post the new one here, and take that as your actual entry ;)

I'm absolutley impressed with everyones entries and I can't wait to see the rest , though they have pretty much made me realise mine is possibly the weakest ;) though I have no problems with this as I never enterd this to win, just to have fun
Congrats to whoever wins and a big bravo to everyone who has already enterd

Presenting Jolana, my take on a Hungarian gypsy:

Jolana's design was not an easy one to come up with. I had a few basic components I'd found during my research of Hungarian costumes that I wanted to incorporate, such as a red, black, and white color scheme, embroidery, close-fitting vests and light, puffed sleeves, headwraps, and an apron-like layer to the skirt. However, I also wanted to incorporate a degree of gypsy intricacy and sensuality, as well - and finding a way to blend the two proved more difficult than I'd expected.

I chose Tira's style in order to convey a sort of dance-like way of movement; the earrings, ribbons, and messy hair, too, speak to the gypsy side of the design.

I think, of the entire design, the hardest thing to decide on how to create was the apron-like layer. I liked how the base of the top flowed into the front of the skirt, but at the same time, I was concerned the length extended a bit too far down. However, various attempts to shorten it or fashion it through stickers just didn't feel right, so I decided to keep the full panel.

All in all, I'm pretty fond of the design. I'm not sure it's quite as spectacular as some of the entries we've seen, but I did my best to keep it with a similar feel to my inspiration, with just a touch of extra flair. :)

i´m not gonna lie, that gypsy looks as sexy as it gets, i like hot the earrings frame the face, and i HATE that damn skirt, i never used it myself, but you managed to make it work, your gypsy has nothing to fear if she faces Shakira in a dance battle

Leona, that gypsy looks really good! I hardly know what gypsy is, but for some reason I look at Jolana and gypsy seems comfortable fitting. Bravo! :D

I wouldn't totally count you out Matt, but I'm still impressed by your Marie Antoinette!

Why, thank you! That means a lot, actually, because it means I was able to get a sense of gypsy sensuality without having to resort to your usual belly-shirts, sparkles, or cleavage. (Not that there's anything wrong with those things, mind, but they have their place. :3)

From my understanding, gypsies are, essentially, nomadic ethnic groups from Europe. Technically, the term Roma or Romani would be more accurate, though - the general implication seems to be that they originated as Indian groups that traversed various European countries, earning a living as performers and tinkerers. (I believe the term 'gypsy' actually came about because people mistook them for Egyptians - and I've also heard comments that the term 'gyp', referencing a rip-off, was based off that term.) Since gypsies tended to stick to their close-knit familial groups, not much was really widely known about them, and they picked up the stereotypes of having particularly... sticky fingers, stealing or conning people outside their group. Exactly how true that is, I can't say, but such goes the myth!

I mostly tried to keep with a Hungarian costume for my entry, but for a more gypsy-specific image, Viola's fortune-teller 2P looks to be a take on gypsy stereotypes, as well.

Ahh... and thanks. :D

I really like that gypsy, love the use of the aketon.
I'd suggest darkening the skin and hair color to match how gypsies are usually portrayed.

Another suggestion would be to play Brahms' Hungarian Dance whenever she fights ;)

Thank goodness the contest hasn't finished up yet. I've been terribly busy the past few weeks and have barely had time to browse these forums.

But I've had an idea I've been trying to implement for a long time now on Mr. Comrade Astaroth, and today, I have finally realized it! I only took one photo as it's simply adding a shoulder item onto him, the rest is unchanged aside from which side his silver star is on:

FIRST, a re-post of my entry, as I fear it may have been forgotten:

AND NOW, the update:

hmmmmm..... Is that a flag? The symbol of the hammer and sickle predate the flag in this case.... I guess the colors are hard to get around though :)

For some reason I allowed myself to forget that, and become a tiny bit offensive to Russia. My total bad.
