Learning How To Learn Soul Calibur

Wonderful guide on how to step your game up :) I definitely agree with confidence and "playing to win." I've got some roommates that go lame dog on me and it's just not fun for either party... Gonna go browse these fabled frame traps among other things. Step my game up!

This is very good info.

I see this is from 2008 from when SC4 came out, and i think for people to learn very much of timing moves and defence and stuff from the new Broken Destiny game. The game has a special mode that teaches you much more about how SC fighting works then the simple training mode. For people like me, who don't have English as 1st language, it is a fast way to learn the same basic strategy in the game.

BD taught me more of fighting then any other SC game, and this info here will make it even better, so thanks!

Wow I was kinda surprised this was still here. With the new game coming out, maybe it needs some changes? Post suggestions, let me know if anything isn't covered or is hard to understand.

And someone tell me why my damn Cosby avy don't bounce no mo! Q.Q

EDIT: Yeah Amy, SC3 had a similar mode as well. I think every fighting game should come with something like that, instead of the crap "mission mode" we've gotten from Capcom's last two offerings. Hopefully we see a fully fleshed out tutorial mode for SC5.

i think this applies to this thread...

can someone make a video or article describing how to use practice mode? it seems amazing, but equally as complicated. ive never really played a soul calibur game, and on top of that im playing it on a CRT so the small writing is difficult to read.

im looking for something that describes how to recreate situations for tech traps, guaranteed combos, punishing... pretty much anything needed for upper level play.

I think Maxx Dreamkiller and Landslide did something like this for their Quick Steps video series. There are a few new additions in this version of the game that weren't covered, such as using select + Y/Triangle to switch between multiple states quickly. In general though, the menu options are all there for setting ukemi direction, air control, and a full record feature that can be used on it's own or integrated into 1st/2nd actions.

For example, you can record a move, followed by guarding for a brief period, then set that record action to the 2nd slot, with the first slot as all guard. That way, rather than having to tap "play action" repeatedly in the record mode, you can just tap the guarding dummy (1st action) with a poke, which will cause the 2nd action to play, being whatever you recorded. You can also record particular mixups to the 3 separate record slots, and then use the above setup, with 2nd action set to randomly choose between all 3 record slots. There are many different ways you can use this 2nd action in combination with the record feature to test any number of things.

Can't help you with the small text though, and I have no capture device.
