MMO Suggestions?

I just graduated college and now I have a fuck ton of free time (till i get a new job :( ), so I'm looking to get back into MMo's since I have a fuck ton of fighters and shooters. I refuse to join in WoW and really I have no idea what to buy. I like games that are a bit more skill oriented rather than simple grind fests so I originally chose AoC...but if you followed that story Funcom did a terrible job with updates and patching glitches...but I hear after awhile its now really good...but lacking a community.

So what do you suggest? MY prime options seem to be:

Diablo 3
Guildwars 2
AoC
FF 14

Any other big titles coming out or are there great ones to maybe join in now? Any experiences or inside knowledge to offer to help persuade my buy? I'm just worried I'll buy a game I have to pay monthly for and wind up nerd raging the whole time.

Guild Wars is my personal favorite due to the thriving competitive PvP community there (and yeah, shit's been fixed since a while now, they fired the guy who pretty much ruined everything during the first year or two). Sure GW2 is coming out eventually, but that's more than enough time to get GW copies on the cheap and run through all four campaigns so you get a feel of the whole thing.

Don't play PvE too much in it tho, the real meat is in the PvP. Get a good Guild that does regularly scheduled GvG matches with a good captain who can help you out with your early builds and I bet you'll be hooked.

Yes, you have a lot of free time right now. But, to really get into a decent MMO and be any good, you're going to have to invest a "fuck-ton" of time and once you have a job... you won't have so much.

That being said, D3.

Guild Wars is good for that in the sense that there is literally no grind offered to you besides PvP rank (and that's not really grinding rather than getting better?). You can start off at max level with a PvP only character, and the newer campaigns, Factions and Nightfall, both take very little time to get to the cap level. The grind in PvE is then to get your decent gear, tho you can usually craft similar or better weapons for pretty cheap with much less grind and you only grind for the gear you want to look cool afterwards, not the one you're actually going to play with.

Tho I guess there's skill grinding in PvP-only but even then if you do the main campaigns (which are like, 20 hours each tops?) you'll have unlocked most non-Elite skills and then you can just go out and cap some Elite skills easily or just unlock them through Zaishen farming, a widely known exploit that's never been fixed other than putting a cap of 3k points a day for one character. With a good teammate you reach that cap in like, 20 minutes. So that's one elite skill every day.

The only good true MMO is Ultima Online. Unfortunately, the game is basically dead(Not surprising since it originally came out in 1997). You should probably just wait for Diablo 3.

There's a really cool MMO out there right now called WoW, I think... it stands for World of Warcraft.

There are like... guilds and itemz and shit.

It's uber-cool.

Guild Wars isn't an MMO. Guild Wars 2 probably will be, which sucks.

Aika is pretty good for a freebie.

@ ivyfanboy = Diablo 3 will not be out for a long time, at least till next year.
also i'm pretty sure it wont be monthly payments. (about 99% sure)
