Move Spamming?

Ok... In case other people are retarded? IN CASE? LOL! Other people ARE retarded. There is no "in case". Spamming is retarded and look at all the people lining up to defend it. Yeah, it's the opponents fault that the same thing works over and over again. They're retarded. But the people that get their jollies from doing the same thing over and over again are just as retarded. It's a boring waste of time to fight those people. Once you know how to get around the spam there's not really much else to do but rinse and repeat for three rounds. Which makes me feel retarded. Apparently, I just need to have a bib handy to catch the drool.

If you lose to a spammer, that honestly has to be the worst kind of loss ever, due to the fact that spammers are extremely easy to beat.

Nice to know you have faith in humanity. You know, usually the people that call everyone else retarded are usually of subpar intelligence themselves. We defend it because there's no reason why it's wrong, AND because the definition of spamming is now so widely interpreted, that using just two of the same moves in a match is considered spamming. I'd rather people just stop talking about the stupid thing all together, because the fact we even have to defend spamming as a legitimate strategy (it totally is, btw.) is AGITATING. The only thing more annoying than a spammer is the guy who cries about it.

Ok fine. You win. I'm retarded. My opinion makes me a cry baby. It's totally within the spirit of the game to hit one button the whole time. I hope everybody starts doing it so we can sit in front of screens like mindless zombies tapping a single button. Either to attack or counter. It's awesome and everyone should be proud except for us idiots who use more than one button. Fuck the notion of "It's not whether you win or lose it's how you play the game." Honor is for suckers!

Sounds like a bunch of you whiners got butt raped by a spammer. If I can win a match by hitting one button, I would. And you would to.

Now stop whining and hit the lab and figure out how to get past what beat you. This netcode is one of the best in a fighting game EVER. And for ANYONE at this point calling out "lag tactics/spamming" is just looking for excuses. If we were sitting on my couch playing this game and I started hitting you with mitsu's 2KB.....would you cry about it? Really?

Get over it and fuckin lets fight!!

HRD

*facepalm* you're missing the point....

Dude, you're on a competitive gaming site. You can play to win or play to learn. Don't knock someone for playing to win. They aren't being a jerk. They don't have a moral obligation to play the game a different way. This is competitive gaming.

Do you think I'll keep mashing BB when you finally hit guard? If you adapt to my shit, I'll adapt to your shit. You are assuming spamming always comes with bad play style. If it works it works.

But fuck that shit right? The real thinking man's game is in optimizing your play style around the most honorable options.

Whenever these topics pop up, I'm always amazed there are people out there who get bored by winning.

Must be nice...

What the fuck?

You're an idiot, play to win.

If your opponent is only using one button it's because you suck so badly he only needs one button. Fix that problem yourself and he'll have to as well. Nobody is obligated to change their winning strategy to a losing strategy in a competitive game just so you can cope with your social inferiority complex.

Someone winning by using the basics isn't mean spirited and no, you can't tell what people are thinking about you when they kick your ass in a video game.

How about some perspective?

Who is the idiot here: the guy who used a move 3 times in a row, or the idiot who got hit with the move 3 times in a row?

SC is not a "my turn then your turn" kind of game. Just because he blocked doesn't mean it's his turn to attack.

tl;dr: There is no such thing as spamming. Anyone who says otherwise is a bad player. Mock them relentlessly.
I always explain this to those people but they always get angry :(

I like this article: http://www.sirlin.net/ptw-book/intermediates-guide.html .
Doing one move or sequence over and over and over is a tactic close to my heart that often elicits the call of the scrub. This goes right to the heart of the matter: why can the scrub not defeat something so obvious and telegraphed as a single move done over and over? Is he such a poor player that he can’t counter that move? And if the move is, for whatever reason, extremely difficult to counter, then wouldn’t I be a fool for not using that move? The first step in becoming a top player is the realization that playing to win means doing whatever most increases your chances of winning. That is true by definition of playing to win. The game knows no rules of “honor” or of “cheapness.” The game only knows winning and losing.

I guess I'm just supposed to agree with everybody. Because nobody is getting the point of bitching about stuff that is annoying. I guess annoyances should be kept to oneself. I just can't help myself I guess. I don't have fun fighting spammers. If it takes a round or two to get a strategy that means three more rounds of me just repeating that strategy. Up to six rounds of time wasted on a boring, mindless rinse and repeat cycle. No, it's not the end of the world. People can win how they want to win. Play how they want to play. I can still think that playing certain people who deploy certain tactics sucks. So fuck.

I hate boring and repetitive things too, but I enrage in a good "fuck that I'll solve this no matter what!" way and bang my head and think and solve it if it is within my power.
That is to say, if they repeat the same move it either:
- works and you find the solution
- doesn't work and they get beaten
Ultimately, it's your choice who you play, or whether you play at all.

I do too. And there's always a solution eventually. That's what training is for. I also thought a thread labeled "move spamming?" would be a good place to vent. LOL! I need to stop thinking...

I'm talking about spammers in a fundamental sense. Literal spammers. Not people who habitual rely on a move. That's not true spam to me anyway. If it's being deployed tactically and I can tell there's thought behind it then it makes me think too. It may be frustrating but it's at least appreciated. I'm literally talking about people who mindlessly do one move, maybe two moves the whole time. It's not only frustrating but completely UN-appreciated. It does nothing for me but wastes my time. Nothing wrong with bitching about things once in a while. So I thought...

It took 7 pages before someone quoted Sirlin. Either the FGC as a whole is slipping or it's just so obivous that there is no longer any need to even mention it.

It's like saying the sky is blue, or boobies are great.

You're right. The initial post was for Higura to find out if people thought he/she was spamming or not. I've come around to the opinion that if it's tactical and not mindless, then no. If it's mindless and not tactical, then yes.

Stupid people will always be annoying no matter the context. Just be the bigger man and shrug it off.
