New Legends of Project Soul had Night Terror Retconned?

So according to Soul Calibur III, Night Terror is the result of the powers of Soul Calibur and Soul Edge entering the remains of Nightmare's armor.

However with the release of New Legends of Project Soul, Night Terror seems to have been retckoned. Now he is supposedly the personification of Catastrophe existing in the Astral Chaos where he destroys souls who cross his path.

Does he still have a connection to the two swords, or is he now an entirely different being than the one that appears in Soul Calibur III?

Literally everything written in the New Legends of Project Soul should be taken with a grain of salt right now. That book was written based on the direction Daishi Odashima and Hisaharu Tago wanted to take the series. Both of them are gone, and now Masaki Hoshino is in their place. Adding fuel to this, the characters bios on SCV's website have been changed, giving way to retcons (most notably, Pyrrha's profile states that Sophitia is "missing" rather than "deceased").

Basically, we don't know what Night Terror's backstory is.

So Night Terror is just a living being floating around in Astral Chaos, and not some super version of Nightmare? Doesn't make sense to me.

Did they actually get around to making an English version of that book? I had assumed it was a myth D:

The English version is to release sometime early April being published by UDON books (who also does translated works for other gaming series/anime/manga series). I don't see anything officially listed on their website but they made an announcement last year and it looks like you can preorder through Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Awesome :D

Something has been brought to my attention; Remember Night Terror's stage Chaos - Spiritual Realm, the homeworld of Soul Edge?

Looks a bit like the Astral Chaos. Maybe they're the same place? And also, Edge Master said that the Astral Chaos is where souls from all times amass. Let's say that from the Soul Embrace in SCIII, the two had their own, collective soul created, being Night Terror. That or Night Terror is now the result of Soul Edge and Soul Calibur's Soul Embrace at the end of SCV's story mode?

Just speculating, and I will update this tread when I get my hands on the translated NLOPS,

Does anyone else find it odd how we're getting the book over two years after release?

Be happy you're getting at all.

I asked Daishi a few years back if we could get an English translation. He said they may consider it but nothing came out of it I guess for reasons they didn't want to pursue it probably because of low return on investment projection since it would be totally niche. Be thankful that UDON books decided to license it since catering to that gaming art books niche is their speciality.

Questionable, but it provides too many spoilers. The same reason the hidden characters were removed as well. That includes Kilik and Edgemaster.

All I found so far in the book is that it says that Night Terror is the embodiment of calamity that resides in Astral Chaos. I remember reading before though, that once all the shards of SE returns to the sword (this includes SC as it was originally a shard from SE and just purified countless times), that Night Terror will come. And most likely destroy the world lol.

Still, taking into consideration that Astral Chaos is where all souls devoured by Soul Edge go to, it makes sense having Night Terror there. That and the fact he appears when the sword is complete.

I would also like to point out that Algol's story has changed. Originally he was sealed inside SC when the sword was created, and partially woke up when they clashed at the Cathedral. Now it seems he was sealed in the Astral Chaos (SE's world, so nothing lore-breaking). However rather than having been revived thanks to the power unleashed when the swords clashed, now he woke up when the swords clashed in AS apparently, and that's what his "blood" is now.
