Hello 8wayrun community, I'm sure you all have gotten a massive increase in members since the release of SCV ... and so I'm here following that crowd lol. I am mainly a 2D fighter and never thought much about the 3D world, I started out with Blazblue and it is still my main game. I dabble with all the other released 2D fighters such as Super Street Fighter IV AE ver 2012 and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (Capcom and there long namesssss) and more recently Melty Blood and upon release of SCV I watched a couple early release videos by a well known user on youtube to the FGC by the name of Maximillan and instantly became interested in the game.

Putting the biography to the side now my question is, what are the need to knows for Soul Calibur. I know of the Just Guards and Guard Impacts and how meter was implemented, I somewhat know of the Brave Edge and how some moves are compatible with it and some aren't. If someone can help be better understand the game that would be very helpful. And finally blocking ... it seems I always get caught in Oki Mixups when I wake up from knock downs and I'm pretty sure I'm teching fast enough and guarding in the right direction (for the high and low mix ups) but it seems it still hits me ... can someone shed light on this issue I'm having and finally any additional tips would be great. Thank you for hearing me out and I hope we can get along and such :)

Btw I'm learning Leixia so if you have any personal incite on her that would be great :)

Welcome to 8WR!
I am glad you are branching out to 3D fighting.
It is different but I hope you find it just as rewarding.

About the oki mixups, I think you're teching too fast.
Sometimes it is better to lay on the ground.
This isn't something we see in a lot of 2D fighter, but 3D fighters often have to option of laying still instead of getting up right away. If you are rolling and being punished, that's called a tech-trap.

Some circumstances, you take LESS damage from a move while laying still, rather than getting up , eating the full move and being knocked down again. I know it sounds odd, but eventually you will recognize which attacks do this. So the point is, you have the option of waiting for the opponent to do a move that is punishable, then get up and kick his ass.

I hope that helps.

Thank you for the welcome.

And yes I do roll or tech right away so that may be my problem so far the majority of my fights have been against Sieg and Nightmares and then continue to do that when I'm on the ground. Thanks for the advice I probably should know this bit of knowledge too as a BB player ... those tech traps hurt ALOT.
