Oz70NYC's Warriors

[08] Mercenary
Time for me to show off my CAS characters. Bare in mind as of this post, I'm only level 14, and haven't unlocked many CAS parts. Still, I have a few worth showing. And as I level up and get more gear, I'll make more. :D Let's get started.

(Note: The world my characters exist in runs parallel to the world of Soul Caliber, but only intersects with it on a minor level.)

Garr Norin
Untitled%201471.jpg

Untitled%201472.jpg

Untitled%201473.jpg

My resident "Main Character" since SC3. Grand General in the Sacred Order of Justice, Garr's fighting prowess is near near godlike. As such, he's one of the most feared and respected warriors in the world. Since the passing of his father Slayde, he's accepted the role of Grand General and has lead the order in countless victories against the forces of evil. But now, a new force known only as The Dark Order has risen from the depths of the past, and Garr sets out on a quest to face this new enemy head on.

Zanaida
Untitled%201476.jpg

Untitled%201475.jpg

Untitled%201474.jpg

A high ranking general in the Sacred Order, Zanaida prides herself on being as battle ready as any male. Little is known of her past beyond the last 10 years, which brings distrust from most other members of the order. Regardless, she's sworn her allegiance to Garr for saving her life in battle, and joins him in his journeys.

Vanysea (Va-Nis-Sia)
Untitled%201483.jpg

Untitled%201484.jpg

Untitled%201485.jpg

One of the three bodyguards of Queen Azonia Elrox, Vanysea seems timid at 1st glance. But in battle she's as fierce as a tiger, and like the other two will lay down her life to protect her queen.

Balbars
Untitled%201477.jpg

Untitled%201478.jpg

Untitled%201481.jpg

A general of the Srellik, Balbars is a brutal, remorseless tyrant with no conscience or regard for human like. Said to be the spawn of Aries himself, Balbars knows only one thing, destroy all that oppose the Srellik.

Aegis
Untitled%201469.jpg

Untitled%201470.jpg

A mysterious assassin of the Dark Order. All who have fought him to this point have died. It's he who Garr has set out to find. But he's only the beginning...

Kazuo Nishigane
Untitled%201488.jpg

Untitled%201487.jpg

Untitled%201486.jpg

A ronin samurai, Kazuo...known better as "The Red Storm" is a feared warrior who hold no allegiance to anything but money. Since the battle of Sekigahara, Kazuo has become a mercenary, as he refuses to join the ranks of Ieyasu Tokugawa's army. He travels Asia in search of battles to be paid to fight, but find himself up against the formidable forces of the Srellik.

That's it for my original characters for now. This next one is a character I just couldn't resist making.

Conan The Barbarian (Swarzenegger Version)
Untitled%201489.jpg

Untitled%201492.jpg

Untitled%201493.jpg

The barbarian who would be king. I know, he's kinda out of place SCV taking place in 1607 and all, but the parts to make a perfect Conan were there, so I HAD to do it.

Plenty more to come.

Kazuo is interesting. Makes me think of Sanosuke from Rurouni Kenshin and/or Samurai X. The rest.....not so much. But, keep on sharing.

Back with some new characters, and two re-visioned ones. Safe to say in the last month+, I've been busy playing other games. (Namely Armored Core V and Battlefield 3) But here's some of the characters I've added to my cast since the 1st post.

Untitled%201775.jpg

Untitled%201776.jpg

Tensai - I wanted to create an evil Samurai character, and Tensai is the end result of that. I scoured the internet for inspiration to make a character who "looks" like he'd fit as a rival of Mitsurugi, and came across many. I intermixed a lot of those ideas into the what's now Tensai, which translates to "Destruction" in Japanese. His story is pretty simple, a Ronin warrior who traveled Japan seeking glory in battle, but one day crossed the path of a spiteful Shinto priest. He was tasked by the priest to kill another, which he did willingly. As payment, Tensai was given a sword...that turned out to be cursed by a Blood-God. The demonic blade tainted Tensai's soul to the point where he now requires the "life essence" of other humans to sustain his own life. He now seeks vengeance against the priest who tricked him, and will stop at nothing to attain it.

Untitled%201780.jpg

Untitled%201779.jpg

Gar Norin - Just a simple revision of his original attire to make him look more Knightly.

Untitled%201781.jpg

Untitled%201782.jpg

Cyprus - A warrior from North Africa, Cyprus is a rogue who holds no allegiances to anyone but himself. His reputation as a mercenary has earned him fame and ire across the globe, and he's crossed swords with many in his travels. No one knows what his true intents are, save for the thrill of battle. If there's a battle to be fought, rest assured Cyprus will be in the fray.

Untitled%201795.jpg

Untitled%201796.jpg

Naru - A 23 year old femme fatale with a past soaked in blood. The daughter of a noble prefect of the Tokugawa Shogunate, it was her father who Tensai assassinated 17 years when she was only 6. But Tensai didn't stop with her father, he massacred her mother and older brother as well. Taken in by a family friend, a famous swordsmith, Naru spent every waking moment learning the power of steel for one purpose: Killing Tensai. Now a woman of incredible skill, and voluptuous frame she uses to her advantage in battle, she tracks the moments of the "Blood Devil" in hopes to face him, and slay him.

Untitled%201797.jpg

Untitled%201798.jpg

Silas - Guardian of of Athens and one of it's most prized and skilled generals. Silas and his army serve the empire willingly, and protect it from the impending threat from the coming evil that grips the land. But upon hearing of the horrors happening, Silas takes it upon himself to leave his homeland and take the fight to the darkness. It's in his travels he learns of Gar's crusade, and sets out to join the noble cause he represents.

That's it for now. More to come. :D

I can see you're starting to experiment with new colors and patterns. You've improved significantly and done a great job, but I suggest that you avoid excessive color/pattern matching. While it's important to establish a primary color for your characters, you don't want them want them wearing jumpsuits. Let's take Silas as an example. You should keep the basic red/gold color scheme, but you should give his outfit more contrast or "pop." Try making the pants a solid white. This is popular in many military ceremonial uniforms. Next, darken the brown of the boots, belt, and armor, increase the saturation, and shift the hue further towards red. Finally, try changing the color of the skirt to red and the trimming/underside gold. This preserves the original color scheme while breaking up the big section of gold. Something about Cyprus, my favorite of this batch, reminds me of Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones.

Thanks for your insight. I'm coming from making CAWs (Create A Wrestler) from the Smackdown/WWE series of games, of which I'm actually one of the best known creators of original characters for many years now. The criteria of making good CAWs is vastly different from making CAS here, as the basis of what's considered quality differs since they're completely different games. I'll definitely take some of your suggested design cues into consideration.

Got s'more characters to share. Starting to find my grove making them. :D

Untitled_1783.jpg
Untitled_1785.jpg

Akilah - A nomadic warrior who's soul is bound to a Earth spirit who's protected her since birth. Akilah is a stout, statuesque woman who's power can overwhelm even the hardiest of male opponents. She searches the land to find the truth behind the sudden disappearance of her village when she was 14.

Untitled_1786.jpg
Untitled_1793.jpg

Lady Ono - Leader of the Ono clan, Lady Ono was forced into the role after her husband Ryuji fell to the blade of Tensai years ago. Despite her nobility, she's most comfortable on the battlefield, often riding at the side of her husband into combat. Skilled in the Samurai ways, she's an opponent not to take lightly. She and Naru have a budding rivalry, since they're polar opposites as far as personalities, yet both seek to be the one to pierce the heart of Tensai with their steel.

Untitled_1799.jpg

Untitled_1802.jpg

Soleil - A knight of the Sacred Order who serves under Garr's command, Soleil is of noble decent, and carries herself as such on and off the battlefield. She frowns upon Gar's usually upfront tactics, but fights along side him to compliment his brawn with her brains. Reared in the art of Fencing since she could walk, she's as comfortable with her sword in hand as most are using a pen.

Untitled_1803.jpg

Untitled_1805.jpg

Ashra - Ashra is one of the high priestesses of the Srellik. Controller of fire, Ashra is cruel and sadistic, taking joy in the suffering of her victims.

Untitled_1806.jpg

Untitled_1807.jpg

Haegarth - One of Garr's "Brothers Of The Oath" and most trusted Lieutenants, Haegarth's power and sense of justice is legendary. A chivalrous and charismatic leader on the battlefield, Haegarth often is right on the front lines. Along side his brothers, they travel the land to fight off the evil of Srellik.

Untitled_1817.jpg

Untitled_1818.jpg

Tatsuko - A skilled ninja and member of the Fu-Ma Clan (Same as Natsu), Tatsuko was dispatched to find and destroy the demon Roshomon, a powerful Toshin that exists to consume the life force of only the strongest of warriors. In Tatsuko's travels, she runs into Naru, who she senses a demonic presence from. The two fight to a draw before Tatsuko realizes Naru's demonic connection wasn't internal, it was the taint of the possessed Tensai still lingering. The two join forces and travel Japan in search of their enemies, fighting whatever challenges come their way in the process.

Untitled_1838.jpg

Untitled_1839.jpg

Roshomon - A demon who's power emanates from conflict, Roshomon was awakened by the presence of Tensai. A destructive creature with no remorse, he's drawn to powerful warriors like a moth to flame. It's believed there's a connection between him and the blood demon that possesses the sword of Tensai, but that connection has yet to be revealed.

Untitled_1853.jpg

Untitled_1854.jpg

Brotoloigos - A general under the command of Silas, his name means "Destroyer Of Men", and it fits him perfectly. It's believed he may be even stronger then Haegarth, as he's fought the mighty Balbars to draws in numerous battles. Some even say he may be a Demi-God...

Next up comes two revision of characters I posted in my 1st entry here.

Untitled_1823.jpg

Untitled_1822.jpg

Balbars - I decided to give him a more uniform, menacing color scheme, and you can't get more menacing then blood red. Since I've unlocked new armor that fit the look, I switched up his gear as well. Other then that he's pretty much the same story wise.

Untitled_1855.jpg

Untitled_1856.jpg

Zanaida - I gave her a more "Holy" look as opposed to the leather clad femme fatale. I like this look better because it gives her a more regal and ethereal appearance. Despite the change in look, her backstory is still the same.

Your pick for colors is a bit, errr...how to say it...let's say pitch black and purple doesn't fit a barbarian-like character.

Avoid pitch colors, specially black.

He's not a Barbarian, he's a Knight. Thanks for your opinion though, but I've used the color scheme for Garr since SC3...don't see myself changing it anytime soon.

I'm liking these characters, particularly Zanalda and Cyprus although they are a little simple. You should try using less over-saturated colors though. Also, was Ashra inspired by Melisandre from the "A Song of Ice and Fire" or "Game of Thrones" series or is it just coincidence?

All three of my Srellik Priestesses are inspired by concept from Melisandre, but I wanted to make them "look" as little like her as possible. As they're element based, the theme of each is based heavily on the element they control. I'll post the other two in my next batch of pics.

Your Conan and Cyprus i like, because they look real and menacing at the same time.
The rest is a bit over the top, not as harmonious.
Try to work on body proportions to get a better looking CAS, if you adjust body proportions, your armor pieces won't look so oversized...

Meaning make them bigger, or smaller?

Most of your designs aren't to my taste due to the very bright color scheme but I do like some of them. The Red Storm, Naru and Lady Ono all look great!

Meaning make them bigger, or smaller?

Smaller. For example, when a female CAS has a large chest, all armor potrudes like crazy. It's an unfortunate compromise to reduce proportions if you want a better looking overall design, because once the armor breaks it no longer matters and the altered proportins may even look odd.

Taking into account the tidbits I've picked up from seeing other people's creations, here's the latest batch of characters I've made/fixed.

Untitled_1928.jpg

Untitled_1929.jpg

Untitled_1930.jpg

Donyia - My 1st attempt at an Amazon character inspired by a piece of art I found in DeviantArt. I may go back and make some edits to her tattoos once I figure out how the hell you move stickers below the waistline without them fading. (If that's even possible.) Even if not, I really like the way she came out. Her story is pretty simple, she's an Amazon warrior who protects her village from evil forces.

Untitled_1925.jpg

Untitled_1927.jpg

Kimo Ndaje - A Zhande warrior who's tribe was nearly wiped out by a group of warriors who looked nothing like normal humans. Kimo takes up his sword to avenge his fallen brothers and sisters, which leads him north from his homeland to Europe. There, he finds the source of the demonic warriors, as well as their name...The Srellik.

Untitled_1920.jpg

Untitled_1923.jpg

Untitled_1924.jpg

Torhyan - The leader of The Srellik. Torhyan was once a noble knight during the 12th century. But after being betrayed by the king he served willingly, he was plunged into a blind rage which drove him to madness. Exiled from his former kingdom, he wandered the land looking for a means to exact his revenge. Eventually he came across an unmarked tomb somewhere in what's now known as Hungary. This tomb was a place of pure evil, and upon entering, the energy consumed him and he was possesses by a demon from another age. Anything he touched became corrupted by this dark energy, and before he could attain any control of it, the tomb sealed him inside. For over 50 years he festered in this quagmire of pure evil, until a trio of priestesses released him. They were the caretakers of this tomb, and they'd watched over his "incubation" inside for all this time. The time had finally come for The Srellik to reclaim the land. With the 3 priestesses at his side and this seemingly limitless dark power now coursing through his veins, Torhyan had the means for his vengeance. He returned to his former kingdom and laid utter waste to it, saving his former king...now an old man, for last. Claiming the souls of the dead warriors in the kingdom, Torhyan now had an army. And war against all living souls was what he'd use it for.

Untitled_1914.jpg

Untitled_1917.jpg

Untitled_1918.jpg

Malek - Malek always dreamed of being a Knight of the Sacred Order, but due to his frail size a child, no one gave the idea a second thought. But then came the day of his 14th birthday, when his village, just outside of the great kingdom of Malador, was destroyed by demonic warriors. One of those warriors wore a crimson armor and had black skin. He appeared to be the source of the evil. Malek foolishly charged at this crimson knight, and was blown back by a black flame emitted by the warrior's sword. The flame burned a great scar onto Malek's right side, and hence Malek gained unusual powers. When he woke, all was destroyed. Death surrounded him at every turn, and to his horror, he could see the crying souls of the dead hovering in the sky. That day forever changed him, as the black flame granted him unusual powers, such as enhanced speed, strength, agility and the ability to see and speak to the dead. Now 16, his destiny is entwined with the dark warrior responsible with fusing the dark energy into his skin.

Untitled_1911.jpg

Untitled_1912.jpg

Untitled_1913.jpg

Zapheira - A war goddess and protector of the "Star Child", Zepheira is believed to be over 5000 years old. Her origin is unknown, but her power is legend. With the Star Child of this age now born, Zapheira rises to her duty once more.

Untitled_1907.jpg

Untitled_1908.jpg

Drahgmar - The Dragon King. An evil from a long lost age, Drahgmar and his forces now rise from the depths to stake their claim on the land. Leader of a race of pale skinned, reptilian like beings, Drahgmar's power among his people is unchallenged.
