PS3 Fight Stick Options

Hey guys. I'm looking into getting a PS3 fight stick and could use some help. I recently got into using fight sticks, and have bought the SF4 FS however I'm gutting it to add sanwa buttons. That being said I'm looking for a PS3 stick but don't know what is the best. Since I'm gutting the 360 stick I don't wanna have to gut the PS3 one or buy a stick that is extremely expensive. But I don't wanna buy something cheap. I've seen adapters that allow a PS1 or PS2 stick to be played on the PS3, as well as sticks that go between Xbox and PS2. Is there any sort of adapter for making a 360 stick work on PS3? If I'm in the wrong forum I apologize.

That's the problem with the official PS3 sticks. It's either quite cheap (money and quality wise, i.e HFS3) OR very expensive (HRAP3), hard to find anything in the middle.

I personally got this one

As I said very expensive but once you have it... you're good.

Etak, if you want a middle ground between cheap and expensive your probably gonna have to do some work.
HFS3 modded with Sanwa buttons for example, isnt too expensive as long as your willing to put in the elbow grease. Worse comes to worse, I can help you out with it at the next BONE.

Yes Papy, thats true. You literally have to de-solder the buttons from the board and make a cradle for the board after. Personally, I dont find it to be too big of an issue, but it is kind of a pain in the ass.

I did a mod from a FS3 to Sanwa JLF-TP + Sanwa OBSF-30. Well let me tell you it sucks, it's tedious and I actually had to add some depth to the box so that everything could hold into it.
(quite a bit of cutting/soldering crap too)

Don't do it !!! Get a HRAP3 and buy a few sanwa buttons !!

Thanks guys! I'm going to work on getting the HFS3 and modding it with better buttons. You guys helped me a ton :) I was so confused on what to get.

Good luck with the FS3 mod, it's very very tedious to pull out ... (whereas HRAP3 you just open/replace/close and finished)

Modding might take a while. Lizardlick and Akihabra aren't taking orders right now.

Yah I may wait for the summer to actually sit down and mod the PS3 stick. I ordered buttons from Lizardlick a few weeks ago for my 360 stick, so hopefully I got it in before they went down. Are there any other good sites to order from other than those two? I have only heard of lizardlick.

from personal experience, modding sanwa buttons into a HFS3 is about 5 times harder than modding seimitsu buttons into a HFS3.

with seimitsu buttons, it's trivially easy to get them to fit into the stock pcb without using ANY wires whatsoever.

the link in my sig "my stick" has pictures of.. well.. my modded hfs.

I also had a painful time trying to open up a hrap stick... those things have screws in strange places. the upside to the hrap is that you don't need to grind off metal tabs to replace the buttons.

you also really don't need to replace the stock hori stick, just the $5 restrictor plate on the bottom... then it'll feel like a great stick.

how did you manage to put a JLF-TP inside and close the case ? it's like 5-8mm (1/4 - 1/3 inch for you non-metric familiar people) too deep for me, had to make a hole in it and add some padding. Or is it another stick from sanwa you put in ?

Nice stick Kosh.

Hmm I'm getting a little confused. What do you mean by stock and restrictor plate? This is my first stick so i still have no idea what the parts are called other than what the online guides I'm using tell me. The guides I'm using break it down with photos so hopefully I won't get lost. I feel like this is going to be a tougher project than planned.

why don't you just dual pcb mod your stick? then you can use it on either.

Wow that's exactly what I was hoping to do. Awesome thanks Godspu. I've started looking into it and have found some helpful threads on Shoryuken. To get the parts for the PS3 part, should I just gut a cheap stick or are individual parts sold separately. I'm trying to make this as easy for myself as possible
