SCIV Worth Playing?

SPECTRELIGHT

[08] Mercenary
Greetings,
I never completed SCIII and I have SCV as well as SCIV.
I have no achievements in IV and I like the seris a lot, but I am wondering :
Is it worth it to play IV and get the achievements, or is V so different that I should just play that instead...

Achievements? If you're one of those players who HAS to get them then go for it, but it's gonna be really though to get them all. Six of them are online and about 15 are cumulative (the distance-traveled-in-combat one is a bitch).

If you want to get all the pieces for character creation then unlock 30 achievements and you get them all by default. The only other way is to complete the hidden missions on the Tower of Lost Souls, but those get really difficult/stupid after floor 35.

I'd say the hardest are:
  • Acquire all weapons and equipment (for obvious reasons).
  • Reach over 10,000 meters in total movement distance in battle (takes forever).
  • Perform 100 Critical Finishes (AI tends to cheat out of guard breaks).
  • Perform 20 Just Impacts (difficulty barrier).
  • Clear ARCADE MODE with over 450,000 points (no clean way of getting this score).
I've developed tons of strategies for both achievements and ToLS, hit me up with any questions you have.

Also, please change the title of this thread to something more descriptive.

It must be the completist mentality left over from when I played RPGs. I estimate pro players don't worry about achievements, they focus on improving their skills.
Xbox360a has what seems to be a good guide for achievements, but I'm always game to meet other FG enthusiasts...
I'm curious if SCIIHDO will prompt more people to play IV (Probably not)
I appreciate the feedback.

Is the thread title better now?

You'll have to grind for a bit to unlock some of the content, but if you don't mind then you'll have fun.

If you want to play online then SCV has the better netcode. As for gameplay, SCIV has a slower pace, but it's easier to access while SCV's is fairly aggressive and has a hefty learning curve.

Exactly what I wanted to inquire. Is it better to play IV to get familiar and build up to V or just go straight for V?

Pardon the indecisiveness, there are soooo many FGs to play still in the 360/PS3 era that it's tough because I love most of them. This and I have yet to find local players to build skills with and spar to learn match ups.

To be honest, you're better off picking one or the other. Though I prefer IV, it would be better in the long run to jump straight into V. If you start with IV and go into V, you may end up disliking V because their gameplay builds are fairly drastic in tone and if you're a fan of the offline stuff from IV then V will disappoint you.

I'd tell you to stick to IV, but it's best for you to try both and see for yourself as to which one you like.

At a casual level there really isn't much of a difference between the two, to be honest. I will say, however, that the character creation skills in 4 help out a lot if you have absolutely no idea what you're doing, and help you get familiar with the basic concepts of the game through experimentation. Asking someone for help in a private online match would accomplish much more if you're familiar with the mechanics of the game

I've played SC since Soul Edge in the arcades. I did do some CC in SCIII, but obviously the CC system in 4 is much more robust. So in terms of the CC, I would say I am novice. In terms of Gameplay, I'm alright. I never put enough time into GIs, JIs and utilizing the Soul Charge. I also never used Setsuka, Tira and Zalsalamel enough.
I think I'm going to use a separate profile and mess with IV to see how I like it, so that I don't achieve any achievements, hehe, and thus I'll be able to make a better choice.

Thanks for the quick responses and the advice on obtaining help. I'm impressed with the welcoming tone.

It is if you cant stand Critical Edges.
lol sad but true. If you want to go more for the traditional fighting without the critical edges and I'll add, Just guards. Sure. It's funny though because when I went back to playing SCIV for awhile, I had SCV stuck on my head and when I used Taki, I always have Natsu's critical/brave edges stuck in my head lol
