Soul Calibur: 3D Model Review/Rant

When she does that move where she shoves her sword through the ground she squezzes 'em between 'er arms all pornstar like.

I would actually like to see that kind of affect. The one where the armor/clothes get dirty or wet. Tekken Tag 2 and DOA5 has done something like that and I think it adds more impact to the gameplay. But of course, that's just me.

I was also disappointed how armor break was on CAS. I wish that they just let the clothing rip/tear/tatter instead of literally obliterating. That was just unflattering to me. And yeah, SC4 with the main cast, their outfits got ripped during the fights if you did armor break. I wish they kept that sort of effect.

The problem is that the game no longer runs on Havok. I'm not sure about clothing getting torn, but I do know that the clothes, armor, and birds cannot be on the floor without the game running on Havok. But yeah, it'd be awesome if my Viola's corset strings got torn and her skirt ripped and he garter belt broken instead of her hood exploding.

It'd also be super awesome if there was a jungle stage with like a mud puddle and if you get knocked into it you get dirty. Or maybe a stage in a peaceful forest next to a creek (Non-Ring Out) where if you get knocked into it then your character's clothes get wet. Along with moisture on their face. I think adding those features would be very nice.

Oh I see. I thought that the game was still running on Havok. But that explains it because Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is running on it right now.

And I agree with everything you said from the Viola concept to the level suggestions. :)

-SCV Pyrrha: Now I adore Pyrrha but she just screams "HEAVY ANIME" to me. I wish they gone the more authentic greek look. When I look at Pyrrha, I don't think she looks Greek at all. But who knows? Maybe it's because she is young so they will refine her when they age her more? Other than that, she was pretty solid in design.

I agree 100% I was looking through the artwork before the game was released and a friend of mine was like "Oooh she's so pretty. She looks like one of those school girls from the animes!" Yeaaaah good job Project Soul -_-

Yep, they unlocked a whole new box of demons (lol).
I never really got into the whole anime school girl cliche. I mean the only ones I actually liked were Rukia (Bleach), Lady (Devil May Cry 3, at least her outfit resembled one anyway), and Asuka (Tekken). But yeah, I hope PS goes back to the origin roots with character designs. I do give props on all the characters though.

I like the anime style they give to us, really it is not to be that realistic, because we don't want see the gore of MK here now do we? Besides everyone likes anime school girls, just saying.

Everyone under the age of 15, and social retards, maybe. Some of us don't gobble up the shitty stereotypes of our japanese corporate masters.

Something that I've always noticed is the differences between the art and the models. It's like some one intervened in the character development some time in between the art design and the model design. I imagine these conversations happening.

Character designer: Here's Viola's render.
Daishi: We're trying to make the female characters less ridiculous. Maybe we should make Viola's boobs smaller.
Character designer: On it. But what about Ivy's boobs?
Daishi: We already planned that ad campaign, so we'll have to keep them the same.

Designer 1: I just discovered something today! When fabric is stretched over breasts it doesn't conform to the sides. We've been screwing up Taki's jumpsuit the whole time.
Designer 2: I'll change Natsu's design right now.

Anime school girls aren't bad. I like em. In fact, I like high school drama animes (Even though I haven't watched any of the newer animes. Cant get into them) But to me, that style doesn't belong in Soul Calibur.

What about Sakura? (Street Fighter) I always thought she was pretty cool.

But by all means, the overall cast designs are far from awful. Just, lacking when compared to the previous ones. In fact that's one of the reasons why I fell in love with SC2. SC3 designs were just as good. Their designs were unique and they stood out. SC5 feels bland compared to the previous ones. (Besides SC4. It was an improvement from SC4 lol)
