shauno: Testing the moves after doing a CF is not the best way to do so, because the state of the orb after a CF is slightly closer to the red than at the start of a match. To make the orb default as if it were the start of a match, click the right thumb stick in during practice mode.

*Edit* You had some incorrect info posted, so I tested all your listed moves and edited your post with the results. =)

PLEASE don't do that. A post with my name on it should only contain my edits. It misrepresents the post itself to have my name on it if someone else messes with it. I don't mind discussing the data and making the edits myself if need be, but no one else should.

EDIT: I didn't save my post elsewhere and it's definitely all screwed up now that you edited it. According to the way I was describing, it definitely took the blocked hits I listed to get a CF.

OOF... I kinda gotta agree with Shauno on this one... unless you are editing a post to get rid of derogatory/inflamatory statements, or the original poster is no longer available; you should never edit a user's post.

I'm sorry, I figured since I'm moderating this Soul Arena, that it's ok for me to update the first post with the latest and most correct information. Soul Arena mods do it on CF, so I figured it would be the same here.

So I apologize for doing so, but I am fairly certain that most of your results were incorrect due to you testing it post CF rather than from the default green orb at the start of a match. When I did this, I got the same results as you originally posted, but when I went into practice mode resetting the orb to default (right thumb stick click), I got the new results.

I'll start working on testing it your way and getting your old results back.

Yes, its a simple misunderstanding... no worries. But we want to be a bit more lax here. If you think someone has incorrect information, tell them, and give them the oppurtunity to fix it themselves first. Remember, we are going for transparency in this community, everything should always be done with consent (when consent is available, inactive members cant give consent).

After doing some testing I believe I have your original results from testing post-Critical Finish. Some moves that required 10 hits in your test may be missing as I excluded moves from my default soul gauge testing that took 12 or more hits.

Once again I'm really sorry for editing your post shauno. I should have known better.

Apology accepted.

I purposely left out the >9 attacks since I knew I wasn't going to find out the number of AAs would CF - I had to have a cutoff point.

As for which counting system to use, whether it is my method (after one CF) or your method (R3 button reset), it is arbitrary. The only true way to get an accurate damage count IMHO is to allow the orb to go flashing blue before each test, count that as '100' and then base the strength of each Soul Guage attack on how long it takes a move to go from 100 to 0 (CF stun).

So if 6A+B creates a CF stun after 15 hits to a flashing blue orb, it would get a value of 15. Obviously the lower the number, the better. Another option is to say that if it takes 15 6A+B hits to wear down 100% of blue orb energy, then each hit does 6.6% damage. Simplify this number by saying is does 67 orb damage, and you'll always show the largest number being the strongest (1,000 would then be the max blue orb number).

To further illustrate this point, I think Yoshi needs only three spinning blade blocks on Nightmare to CF stun him (a bug) when starting with a flashing blue orb. That means it is doing roughly 33% of max orb damage each time, or a value of 333 damage. You can easily determine the stregnth of Soul Energy attacks this way.

Maybe this is a topic for the general tactics forum until one system is agreed on.

I just re-did the moves for v1.3, this time using the R3 method to reset to green since it seems to be the accepted value. I'll adjust the first post. It seems that they re-arranged the order of a few.

Thanks for takin the time and keepin it up-to-date!

I gotta get my CF (Critical Finish) game goin...

my problem is when i get my opponent's orb to flashing red i just dont know what moves to use to get my CF. every single time the red orb breaks its always in the middle of an attack.
any help so i can get my CF game goin.

After you hit them a few times when red first starts flashing, use single attack CF power moves like 6A+B and repel GIs (instead of attack strings) to finish them off. Other good, single attacks include:

  • 2A+B
  • BT A_{A}
  • 66B_WL B
  • 44B
  • 66 A+B

Just be careful not to do one that gives up free damage on block if you are unsure if the CF will be triggered. Those unsafe power CF attacks are:
  • AS B+K
  • BT B
  • 8B
  • 236B_{B}
