Sp1d3r Commentary

I don't mind criticism, in fact I recommend it while commentating. People make mistakes, and as a commentator you have an opinion. If you hold yourself back you're only hurting the commentary.

I analyze matches in my head, so I bet it's hard as hell to do it while talking. Can you really keep up with the action is the question?

This is fun to watch BTW.

Without looking at the matches.

Amy VS NM
It's all about offense vs defense.

It's a downhill match for NM. The only way for him to generate offense or damage is with throws to pressure Amy into ducking, and whiff punishing with SideStep and backdash or NSS. Otherwise all his other options are very risky and opportunistic.
In addition defensively NM might risk aggressive options like 9B to avoid Amy's mid low mixups.

Amy just does whatever she wants.

Overall I think when the action is going back and forth you want to do play by play. Correct Punishment or missed, Missed Ringout opportunities, missed combos, complementing good reactions like sidestep, gis, JFs...and such. When players back off, spacing around looking for opportunities you have time to anaylze.

SC runs on momentum so if you can point out when that shift happens it gets more exciting.

I disagree with this statement actually. Amy is rather linear and NM has the tools to get out of her pressure. Yeah she's ridiculously fast but because of that it lulls her into a false sense of invulnerability which NM can use to trap her (NTC mixups, NSS spacing mixups, step traps, impact traps etc). And NM has some combos which combo a lot more easily on her than other characters. The Keev vs Thugish Pond matches are the exact example of how that match-up should be played by both characters and IMHO the matchup is 5/5.

And 9B is not unsafe at all. I think its part of safemare's arsenal lol.

Edit: Oops i misunderstood Downhill lol. Disregard the opinion but still take note of the "wisdom" imparted here. lol.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Very very exciting. For the next few videos you'll notice improvements in quality. Especially video and audio. I plan on commentating on the thugish VS Keev matchup next. If you'd like to be quoted, or would like a part for theory/analysis on the matchup shoot me a PM. If you think you have an interesting segment for non-replay videos and would like to be included, let me know.

That was an awesome video. I blew it up on SC's Facebook page.

I also had to change the category of this video in the media section since it's not an official podcast. If anyone has a better category suggestion, just send me a message.

The problem for me is not wanting to commentate for a 20 minute video. Maybe out of these long sets I'll choose three matches(first, middle, end) that should show somewhat of progression and keep length down. This should reflect a more true game and the mentality behind it.
The original footage ends with me winning 5 straight games. In your video, you examine the very first match and declare Partisan the winner of a highly intense tournament match. Oh, I mean casual match. Dumbass. I am sure you are just what this community needs, more false judgments. By the way, even if you did select 3 matches to comment on, there would still be 6 matches unaccounted for, and no explanation as to why I suddenly had such a long streak at the end. Consider it all, or consider nothing. Critiquing 11% of something seriously is just pathetic!

Take Partisan's advice, if you're going to comment on footage, focus on the technical aspects, not your opinion. I couldn't express my opinion on Partisan's play with any sort of real certainty if I were the one commentating...there are just too many factors to consider, yet somehow everyone here is cool with some guy who doesn't even know the players running his mouth. SMH.

Whoah man, what's with the blatant assholery?

As someone who's done voiceover for stuff before, doing a 20 minute video, especially doing it in parts like he is, is time consuming. And if you're not doing it for money, but for fun, why should you be held accountable to do the whole thing?

I honestly can't even figure out why you're even mad. You're freaking out because somebody commentated over one match in which you lost. Nobody made any judgments based on that video. I didn't see Sp1d3r saying that you were a bad player, or anything of the sort. What ultimate judgment was made that hurt your pride so much you needed to flame the hell out of someone who was just having some fun on the side? I have a real hard time not deleting your post, not based on the fact that I disagree with you (which I do) but on the fact that it blatantly flames someone for absolutely no rational reason. And honestly, if you're going to have a problem with me responding to this, take it to a PM. I'll delete any post in response to this one just based on the fact it's going to derail the thread.

Sp1d3r, you're improving and it shows. Much my criticism matches stuff that's already stated though. For example, keeping respect to the players as often as possible. I mean, always mention a mistake if it's an obvious mistake, and likely will cost them quite a bit. But not all risks are mistakes. Sometimes a player takes a big risk for high reward, and the other player sees it coming and defends against it well. It's better to mention the solid play from the other player than saying that the risk was a mistake, etc.

As I said though, good job and keep them coming.

Yes I wasn't happy with commentating a fraction of the match, but my time is limited and that was only my second commentary... ever. The point is to get better so I'm ready when SC5 is out. Sorry man, I know your match wasn't accurate, and I also know how many factors goes into it. I'm glad you said something, but you don't have to resort to name calling.

I understand technical aspects to a certain extent.. like play based around "drawing out" certain moves to punish them. Encorperating UB-cancels into play to force an opponent to drop guard. If I recall the full Partisan VS Vincent match is about 30 minutes... I'l probably avoid these long videos from now on, but as far as video quality, tournaments are usually recorded with a camcorder so I just work with what I have within reason.

Thanks for the backup Destinizish

You are coming off to a good start Sp1d3r! I could see you being a tournament commentator for SC5 if you keep up the work. The hardest thing about commentating fighting game is understanding a characters mindset and the speed the actions happen. With practice, I am sure you'll do well.

Keep up the good work!

I'm going to be interviewing NeoRussell next.
I'll take a few community questions if anyone has any
Ooh! Ooh! *raises hand jumps about like a kid*

Where ever you go, do you dream a whole lot before trying to make it happen? In terms of placing high in tourneys or what not.

Aside from that, please make more vids Spid3r.
