The New MMA Thread

Not only that but Affliction is no longer doing fights. And to add-on to the discussion about Fedor going to the UFC...

Checkout the last line about co-promoting. It's just not going to happen.

Until this shit stops:

"Of course, it still doesn't imply we are ready to accept any conditions they'll throw at us," Finkelchtein said. "We want to talk to the UFC about having Fedor compete against some of their fighters, but only within the framework of co-promotional efforts with M-1 Global."

We're not seeing Fedor in the UFC. This is the biggest thing that White will not budge on, so if he only joins via co-promotion with M-1, we're not going to see him in the UFC period. I just think the egos here are too big on both sides, and UFC is having too much success for White to feel like he should have to budge on this issue.

Sad but true, he'll probably get the rescheduled Barnett fight, or Overeem next. And after that it's straight can crushin for him until he himself decides to fight in the UFC on their terms.

fedor will sign with the ufc once he realizes that his greedy, manipulative managers are willing to prioritize their own financial interests at the expense of fedor's. this will happen when dana, lorenzo etc. meet fedor in person. it may have happened already

Yeah there was an article (all in russian sadly) where his brother called out Fedor's managers on this. So hopefully that will be a push in the right direction. But one thing is certain, Fedor will have to break away from his current management to get anything done, because otherwise there's nobody left after Overeem. And what's to say Overeem doesn't get caught roiding too? lol

Remember that one of the big reasons (other than money) that prevented Fedor from signing is that he is the face of Combat Sambo and participates in their events every year. The UFC has all sorts of exclusivity clauses that prevent fighters from taking part in anything except the UFC so this is another very large roadblock as Fedor wants/needs/has to keep competing in the Combat Sambo stuff.

UFC has already stated that they'd be willing to figure out something with the Sambo championships, but they weren't willing to budge on a co-promotion with M-1 Global. They don't really have to co promote with Combat Sambo, they just have to let him go do it. Different situation entirely.

Not sure how true this is, but I read it on another site:

So we all know the deal with M-1 and what they are saying about co-promotion. I'm not here to say who's right and wrong in this deal, but I can tell you some of the specifics that were offered to Fedor.....

- The UFC offered Fedor a 6 fight, 30 million dollar contract. That's 5 mil a fight

- The UFC offered Fedor an immediate title shot

- Lesnar/Fedor would be the biggest PPV in MMA history (we assume), and the UFC offered M-1 Global a cut of the PPV on top of Fedor's purse.

- Fedor was free to wear as many M-1 logoed items as he wished.

- The UFC also relented on allowing Fedor to compete in combat sambo.

Apparently, for good or bad, M-1 refuses to sign a deal unless the UFC agrees to co-promote.

I can tell you right now, the boys at ZUFFA will never, EVER agree to that. So if M-1 doesnt relent on that item alone, the Fedor to UFC talks are dead. Look for Team Emelianenko to turn to Strikeforce next. With co-promotions already in the books with Affliction, that shouldnt be a stopping point.

FUCK YES. Fedor in Strikeforce will be nice!
Also, they´re going to work together with Dream. Lots of awesome matchups!

That was fucking hilarious!

And no offense but who the hell is excited to see Fedor sign with Strikeforce??? What awesome matchups we'll he have in Dream? The only thing I see worth while is against Overeem and we already know whats gonna happen there. (If not just look at the finish of his fight with Mousasi.) I'm done with the Fedor talk. I got nothing but respect for the guy and wish he could've proven himself to all the naysayers but it is not to be.

well, how can you not be excited by the fact that he´s signed, period?
apparently, he still has 3 fights left with M-1, or so i´ve heard. imo, him fighting those three fights in Strikeforce/Dream sounds awesome.
when he´s done, if he wants, he can go to the UFC!
also, you say you know what is going to happen if Fedor faced Overeem. i could say the same thing about Fedor VS any other heavyweight in the world.
i definitely don´t think Lesnar or any other HW fighter in the UFC makes for a better fight VS Fedor than Overeem, or Barnett, or Kharitanov.

how can you not be excited to see this fucker in action as soon as possible?

(yeah, i´m a Fedor nuthugger, and proud of it. :))

I'm not sure how you can say this, Lesnar at the very least presents an interesting match up problem for Fedor with his freakish athletic ability. Overeem is just a product of an overall weak division, organizations need SOMEONE to hype up, even if they're trash. Both Fedor and Barnett would crush him, and Barnett is overrated as well.

So far all Fedor has as prospects in EITHER org is overrated or over the hill vets, or up and comers like Rogers in Strikeforce and Carwin/Velasquez in UFC. Personally, I'd rather see him fight Lesnar, Carwin and old ass Randy than what Strikeforce has to offer.

But M-1 is NOT going to budge on this co-promotion, and imo UFC shouldn't either. This is a rare time when I'm siding with White on the issue, who the fuck is M-1 to come in here demanding 50/50 co promotion? Aside from waving Fedor around, they aren't shit. As much as I'd rather see Fedor fight the UFC's heavyweights (or drop down to 205 somehow sweet fucking jesus if he could do that....) it just shouldn't happen if it means they have to give this shitty little organization the king's ransom they're asking for.
