the problem with sc...

Wow! this thread is so long. I read a lot of it, but I'm not quoting any. Instead, I'll just say a few things. Like one, the characters in this game are, in my opinion, very interesting, but it is true that most players don't explore their abilities. They just stay within the same cheapy combos that they know will work. Namely, mixed combos with tricky lows.

Momentum is definitely an issue. Especially, when someone develops a game with a frame rate that pushes the capacity of many people's connections. Fighters become hard to stop because its just so difficult to get a guard up, or to step, evade or whatever. There are many good defense tactics in this game, if only they worked.

I don't know why they are so afraid to make guarding easier. Justing does damage, but not nearly as much as tek traps, that are far toooo easy to perform. Heaven forbid, someone was able to spam defensively. The Soul Guage already prevents that. The person who started this thread was talking about people who milk certain tactics, and never go outside the box. Why should they? Spamming wins matches. But I do agree, it hurts the quality of this game.

If people are unclear of what spamming is: Just raise the volume on your TV.
if your character is voicing the same words over and over like a broken record, chances are that you're probably spamming.

And no, not all spam is easy to counter. Especially when there are lows, stuns, GBs, and Unblockables involved. And when one spam contains all of the above. (hello Hilde) it becomes a joke.

Another thing is when they bend the mechanics to make the game more interesting, instead, they make the game more broke. Horizontal attacks should be ducked or jumped.; Vertical attacks should be side-stepped. When characters like Raphael or Mitsuguri pull the crap they pull, the game becomes unreliable. No longer a game, but a gimmick.

And what exactly do you mean by the crap Mitsu does? Not starting shit but it seems to me that his horizontals can be ducked, and his verticals can be side stepped. What is it that I'm missing so I can hit a side stepper with B or a croucher with A?

Hilde's unblockables suck, her lows are mostly meh, and her stuns are shakeable... just had to through that out there.

Are you kidding? I could be side-stepping half way around Mitsuguri and he'll still connect on a forward attack.
\I admit, his horizontals aren't as cheap.

You probably haven't fought a good enough Hilde. I'm not saying she's impossible. But she's tricky.
Her unblockable doesn't suck when it follows a GB into another GB. On most stages it rings you out.

I know what I'm talking about because Yun has one. 9BK. But thats just one. All Mitsu's verticals are like that.

Mitsu may be able to track fairly well with verticals when coming forward making him hard (but not impossible) to sidestep, however 90% of his attacks can be countered almost every time on block. If you charge with him you better hope you hit or have a fairly good GI game because you're going to get punished. Especially if you're playing some decent players, who if they block they can launch and start a counter combo. Mitsu is good at mix ups which is what frustrates a lot of people but if you're patient and wait for a mistake (which could be as easy as getting blocked on one of those "cheap forward verticals") you can punish him. He has really nothing to counter with, his step speed is slow, and he takes a lot of hits if you make ONE mistake. I'd give up all that tracking if I could just counter on a block regularly. He can block, Nightmare, Asty, Zas, Sieg, Rock, and all of those supposed slower characters and still not be able to counter fast enough.

But hey to each their own. I love playing with him and that just means I have to change my game to be successful with him and that'll come with more experience.
