There once was D.O.A (DEAD OR ALIVE)

Could you tell me what you didn't like about DOA4?
If the members at DOAWorld could contact TN we'd be sure to notify them these issues, and hope DOA5 doesn't end up like DOA4 or, DOAD.

Did any of those members talk to TN when they came to Texas a couple of months ago?

Weird and arbitrary changes (though I'm sure a bunch of them happened in doa 3), stuff like Jan-Lee's mp reversal, the strange changes to the tag system (I only played tag with other people), Hayabusa losing his fun stance for some lame ninja stuff, the ever increasing emphasis on canned combos, the new characters, Tina still being super boring, Bass and Gen-Fu not being really good (why would they take away Bass's only good combo and Gen-Fu's soccer stuff?), the weird, floaty ground game. It's been a long time since I played 4, so I'm definitely missing some stuff.

Um?? Gen-Fu is the 2nd best character in DOA4?
Not sure how he played in 3.1. Hmm and, yes Bass had really good combo's in DOA3.1 that makes him look boring in DOA4.

@Malice. I think the developers just watched the tournament. Though some of the pros that attended the tournament attended the DOAD promo in japan, they could have made it possible for DOAD to be a better game, but they only discussed property changes, and new moves which... no one liked.

This is the absolute truth! DOA3.1>>>DOA4

Every day!

Especially that "shitty" game called DOA4...

Yea I didn't know what DOA3.1 was until I saw your DOA4/DOA3.1 comparison vid on youtube lol. I honestly still have yet to play it >.> You need a imported xbox from japan or, a modded one to play 3.1. I just have 3.0

Ah yeah, my old DOA3 video... So you haven´t played DOA3.1 even once? You know, i could only play DOA3.2(PAL-version) but that´s almost like the japanese DOA3.1 version. So i am fine with that.

DOA3 was an awesome game imo... Even today it is. ;)

I love Dead or Alive. Course, I love fighting games, period...

I like DOA for it's speed, its dynamic stages, its dynamic attack animations. DOA is really flashy and I like it for that reason. I think mostly the ninjas have an answer for everything in the series but I can't really pin point characters tier positions. To me, everyone seem pretty well matched. THough I hear Ayane and Hayate may go a little over board.

I use Hitomi alot. I love her fighting style. Back in 3, if it wasn't Hitomi it was Lee i'd be using. In 2 I used Ein and Zack. I enjoyed 4 but I thought 3 was better. Zack is alot more fun in 4 though. I use Zack, Hitomi and Lisa.

I agree that the counter system needs some type of over haul. Though, all the high level play i've seen, they don't spam counters because of the critical hit system in place. Pros block more then counter from what I've seen. DOA is alike like VF, IMO. But they have their key differences that make VF a frame whore's dream and DOA a frame whore's nightmare. I think if you get hit once, then counter, but fail to properly counter and get smack again then that's it. You should be locked in hit stun and can't counter another three of four times. And maybe reduce the counters to just High/Mid counters and Low counters. I think know there's an input for countering a high punch, then on for low punch, and one for mid punch, and one for mid kick, and one for high kick, and so on... Just stream line it. And counters do shit tons of damage so maybe that should be toned down.

But whatever... I play casually so I won't say my opinion carries much weight. But it's a fun game and the characters are visually appealing to me. And not just cuz of the boobies...

The only other fighting game I have on the X-box is DOA4 which I occasionally play at times. I've played DOA3 on my cousin's xbox and felt it was way more fun falling off stages and stuff. I got into the game because of Kasumi and her pretty hair. It wasn't until I played it more that I got into playing Zack and Hitomi(recently) as well.

I loved DOA4, But I have to admit, part of the reason, was the chicks in the game. Hmmm "what I didn't like about the game?"... well its hard to say. the counter system was annoying, but if you knew your opponent would counter, you could just go for a throw for high damage. To be honest, I'm not sure on the things I didn't like. I was mostly a casual player. I like everything about the game. The graphics, the stage interactions, specific throw animation for stages (like grabs near the stairs), the tag system. But I did hate how strong the Ninjas are. I main Bass, but he didn't stand a chance against them, so I took up Ayane.

Are they really thinking about making another DOA? (sorry for the noob question and statement) But didn't they fire the guy who was in charge of the DOA series, so they made DOA Dimensions the last?

Used to play doa for ps1 and doa 2 when i came onto ps2 played both casually would have bought the others but they went damn xbox exclusive =(

DOAD was more like a test to see if the current Team Ninja could handle a DOA game. It was to open up to more people and, catch up people on the story who has never played DOA. There were another alternate ending in DOAD that leads to 5 also, in DOA4 alpha-152 (boss) escapes. TN has been supporting DOA recently showing up to smaller tournaments (D.I.D7) and, they have been giving hints the look for DOA5 in the future (most likely after there done with NG3)

DOAD looked great overall on 3DS but, it plays more like DOA4 which is what the competitive fans really didn't want, we wanted another 3.1 and a console version. We'll wait to see what they have in store for 5 though. The good thing I heard about DOAD was they shortened the counter window, so mashing counters is harder, plus the overall counter damage is less.

@Seven7Swords: Alot of people in the community do discuss that it plays like VF, almost the same amount of characters, almost same graphics, as well as system. I hope for a cross over between the 2 (so much hype).

*puts in D.O.A*
*takes off jeans*
*selects training mode*
*picks Ayane and sets opponent as Bass*
you see where this is going.... this is the only reason I own D.O.A

I haven't heard of this DOA 3.1. But I believe the counter system is fine. Because if people are spamming counters, you can punish them with a grab. And grabbing someone who did a counter, adds extra damage to your grab (even though I'm sure you know that), so I never had a problem with the counter system. Just can't repeat the same string too much.
the story mode for DOAD was kinda cool (played the demo), so if they decide to make another DOA, I hope they do it like that. But yea, even DOA4 hinted towards another game, with Zack saving Helena.
This 2012 will be a great year for fighting gamers. With Street Fighter X Tekken and Soul Calibur 5; if they announce Dead or Alive 5, I can die happy.
Fingers cross for DOA5

Last thing (too easy your thread question); I enjoyed DOA4 all around. I only ask for a better balance system and characters.

None of the members from DOAWorld appeared to talk to Team NINJA much at the event. DOAWorld's has the reputation as a casual DOA fan site so players wouldn't expect much of hardcore questions or suggestions being given by them, though I do know that at least one member of the site showed up but he's a member of all three DOA sites.

FreeStepDodge.com's team though did meet with Team NINJA, discussed the current state of the game, where they felt the game went wrong, and gave suggestions for future iterations. Contacts to Team NINJA were made there and questions to Shimbori and general feedback/suggestions are being submitted to Tecmo USA to be given to Shimbori. Shimbori also pulled some of the more hardcore players aside on his own free will to ask why they enjoy DOA3.1 more than DOA4. It should be noted that Shimbori is the director of Dead or Alive, but came onto the team after the third iteration so he wasn't around for the decisions and designs of the first 3 or Ultimate.

Tecmo owns the rights to DOA, their employee's creation is doing his job to create Tecmo's licenses. In other words, Itagaki can't make a DOA on his own and he doesn't get any royalties for such. Shimbori is the active director of DOA now.
