...and have no place in a fighting game that wants to take itself seriously.
That's because it isn't. Not every fighter is made with competitive players in mind, it's kind of a sub-genre inside fighters. But I do agree that mechanics in a game like that would make no sense in SC, or any competitive fighter.

And for the record, some Naruto games are actually pretty decent, and MUCH better than the anime (although I don't think that's a big feat, is it?)

I am already tired of having to button mash when i occasionally use dampierre's special throws and even then i am mostly too lazy and say fuck it.

1- So... you're shocked that a stupid mechanic that adds needless randomness to the game, requires no real skill and promotes button mashing isn't desired in one of the most serious communities of competitive 3D fighters? I guess you must also be surprised that we didn't like the idea of having Ermac.

Sorry for the late reply. The reason why I think it would be nice to have that feature is because the all the cutscenes I've seen in all of the SC games.... I guess I learned my lesson that competitive players don't do these type of stuff....understandable. As for the Ermac part? I'm not shocked about that, though what's so bad about it?

2- You say it'd be innovative, yet it was present in a game from 1995. And Soul Charge, step g and supernatural whole-ring jumps were present in previous games of the series...

To the casual players, it would be innovative somewhat since most people I know don't really play the SC games competitively as much as yall do.

Besides, we already have a thread for discussing SCIV.

No thanks since everyone is gonna badger me about it.

You're using shitty DBZ game mechanics to build an actual respectable fighting game? Thats the last thing PS needs. Gimmicks mixed with intentially broken crap. Ultimate tenkaichi is an example of what NOT to ever do to a game series intended to be about "fighting". If thats the only "fighting" game series you play then I don't see how this idea is credible at all.

It's just ONE feature that I think it'd be nice to add into the series.... That's all. As for the Ultimate Tenkaichi part, I do enjoy the game, I enjoy creating my character, leveling up, strategizing my ki, fighting giants and all that (have you even tried Very Strong mode in that game....JEEZ LOUISE!). There is a thing called "having fun" and that's what most of the anime games are about, having fun! Of course those are not the only fighting game series I play.

Well....... I've learned my lesson then!

Soul calibur doesn't have the resources to make mistakes from a gambles like this. Seeing as how this game wasn't even intentionally going to be made in the first place. Where as DBZ games are cheap-crap out anually guaranteed, so they can and do goof around with the series to which is why at this point the games suffer for its notorious reputation of the extensive lack in quality or even a functional engine to this day. It from what I'ved lived through while playing the older games think its because of their lack of focus to whats really important. Soul calibur has high expectations tied to it as it is a tournement league series. Most hardcores hate even the simpliest of tricks that doesn't keep the engine solidified. Fun will always come from balance and inovation to creativity. Throwing in useless tricks and counterfeit claims of "improvement" by trying to distract players with totally irrelevant features only hides the growing flaws. If those gimmicks fail then they will have even more problems as they have shown us.

*I don't hate DBZ games, just hate the producers not even taking themselves or their integrity seriously. However I never bought ultimate tenkaichi purely on how garbage it turned out to be in any reality given to judge it on. The hype should never overpower the build up. The games should just speak for themselves but thats another topic.

If you're talking about a "clash" mechanic where the background fades black and I have to spin my stick like a lunatic epileptic who just herpderped his way into masturbation for the first time and hope I did it faster than my opponent all to avoid a knockdown, then my vote is for you to get the fuck off my island.

If you're talking about a "clash" mechanic like Arcana Heart (shit on the glaring aesthetic deficiencies all you want, the metagame is legit), then I'm ehhh on the subject. I wouldn't entirely mind actual sword clashing to take a more front-and-center role in this game if for no other reason than the fact trades in this series by and large look stupid as hell. But that's all I want. Blades clashing, metal sound, sparks, frame reset, try again.

There was a clash feature in a game I actually thought was reasonable but I dont remember the game, where 2 characters clash weapons and push each other back and grind the metal of their weapons togther (Not attacking but both blocking and pushing against each other for like 4 seconds and the winner does a throw.)

From a casual standpoint I see this as actually pretty awesome, but I don't see any real benefit to high level play.
