After all the questions, all the rumors, all the guessing......We FINALLY have a answer about the XBOX 720. ITS COMING OUT!!!!! For many people, this will be very exciting, Some may not because of reasons we don't need to know. For those who are excited, I got bad news, it comes out in 2013. Yeah I said it. Here's what the XBOX 720 equips (inside)...

Sources confirm fall 2013 release, detail graphics processing power.

The next Xbox will ship to retailers in late October or early November of next year with six times the processing power of the Xbox 360, sources close to the project have told IGN.
Following initial reports from tech blogs Fudzilla and SemiAccurate, our sources have confirmed that mass production of the system's GPU will indeed begin by the end of 2012 but will not, however, be based on AMD's 7000 series Southern Islands GPU. Instead, the processor will be derived from the 6000 series, which was introduced last year. More specifically, it will be akin to the Radeon HD 6670, which offers support for DirectX11, multidisplay output, 3D and 1080p HD output. The chip currently has a market price of upwards of $79.99.

In real terms, the Xbox 720's raw graphics processing power is expected to be six times that of the Xbox 360 and will yield 20-percent greater performance than Nintendo's forthcoming console, the Wii U.
Developers are likely to receive development kits based on the system's final configuration in August. Projected pricing for the console was not provided.

Well, there you go. This article was copied and pasted by Isaiah.

Interesting... although I see no point in making consoles with such ridiculous processing power. It only makes game development much more expensive and difficult. I hope it gets some good games. And I think it's still too early.

This is a sad indctment of gaming today:
Our everly increasing demand for better graphics and 'realism' in fantasy are invariably at the expense of all other aspects of the game. Which is why not too many games produced in the past 3 years will go on to be classics. The fact that microsoft are adhering to this ridiculous demand which will only serve to cripple the budgets and all other aspects of any games made to this spec. of the developers. This isn't an improvement, its a problem.

My 2C...

When they announced the current generation, the GPU's were based on the strongest graphics available at the time and the one in XBOX360 was even more advanced. And what's this? Radeon 6670? Wow, this must be some kind of a joke.

Problems with a new console at this time:

1.) Technology- Lets be honest, the tech is not completely perfected for both the consoles. For both 360 and ps3 (mostly ps3 in all honesty) have not gotten to the fullest potential in terms of both graphic fidelity and processing the gameplay in more than 30 fps. Sure, certain games push the envelope for the systems, however, the life span of the xbox 360 still has a ways to go (at least 3 more years). Aside from that, you literally can not push technology any further right now. Unless you have lots and lots of money, but we will get to that in a sec.

2.) Anti Used Game System- This is a horrid idea. On the surface (like most things) it seems like a good idea. In essence, it is a way to prevent used game sales and help the publishers continue to be successful. That I am not against, but not at the expense of not only rental game retailers and professional reviewers (they gotta make money too), but the consumer themselves. Say you do not have the money for a game, and your cousin has it. You can not use that game because it is linked with a console. This eliminates the one thing that games are able to do that makes everything more fun: Sharing the experience.

3.) Horrid Idea Financially- This is the most important issue I want to bring up. Right now, the amount of time and money to put into this kind of project is unsound. You have to hire people to program the systems, manufacture it and sell it through ads. Why is that a problem? World wide, people still are in a bit of a financial crisis. Look outside, it is still raining unemployment, and America is not the only country that has that problem right now. The Idea of making a new console sounds great, but the amount of money all around to put into it will make the console itself extremely expensive. Which, no one will get at launch because launch titles blow for the most part.

All and all, the Idea of making a new console right now is entirely a bad Idea. Everyone will have a bit of a backlash. In a few years, go for it. Right now, however, we need to ride out these consoles and not get to hyped over something that will kill a wallet.

Not you, the people that made the "report". It just looks like so pointless, the upgrades are almost laughable.
If it wasn't for MS having shitty ideas in terms of a business to begin with, I would agree. Unfortunately, they know the mass majority of people who play their games, are down right idiots. Not all, just the ones who go for fps games only and consider the fidelity of the game to be the highlight and not the gameplay or any other concept.

I dont like the idea of making a new console because everytime a new system comes out, the old one is left there in the dust.
EX. When XBOX360 & PS3 came out, no one never played the PS2 again...

I can debate that XD Ps2 had a run for atleast 2 years after ps3 came out. Granted, the ps3 did not really pick up steam till a little later down the road. However, ps2 was and I promise still is being played fondly. Xbox however, that thing was a hunk o crap. Sorry, but have to say it xD.

Your okay. I was a PS2 fan at first but when XBOX360 came out, all the good games were only for the 2 new systems.

That would be why video game sales were up 4 billion dollars last year right? Hollywood made more musicals during the great depression than at any other time. I'll tell you why. No matter what the era, during bleak times escapism still manages to sell. Better than ever in fact. You can try to reason against it with all the financial evidence you have, fact of the matter is though, MB ad A mentalities sometimes forget that not everything is a completely financial decision. I conditionally predict that should this product actually launch on the provided schedule it will not be the disaster you think it will be -provided it avoids the previous incarnation's sort of hardware defects and can show visible supremacy to the WiiU.

If IGN's specifications actually prove accurate it's entirely likely the cost will be mitigated somewhat by the use of less than state-of-the-art components. For that matter I wouldn't be surprised to see if the presence of an already entrenched competitor in Nintendo's system serves to lower the price point further. Nobody wants to be caught in the situation Sony was at it's launch, particularly the people who put them there.

Microsoft and Sony might have agreed with you my friend, but the honest truth is they probably don't imagine they have three years anymore. Nobody at the top wanted to make the first move for quite a while, and they had a lot of good reasons not to. But the fact of the matter is Nintendo has thrown down the gauntlet, reached for their pistol and appear prepared to shoot first. Would you expect Microsoft and Sony not to answer them?

NEW UPDATE!!
Blu-Ray?

Another report that came in this week was that the new console would include a blu-ray drive. Many will remember at the beginning of the HD format wars, Microsoft famously put their backing behind Toshiba's HD-DVD format instead of Sony's Blu-ray, opting to sell a HD-DVD add-on that would allow Xbox 360 owners to play high-def movies using the format. However, HD-DVD failed to catch on, and Blu-ray was the surviving format for HD movies. However, instead of pledging support for winning format, Microsoft opted to stress the importance of downloads and streaming rentals for films. A Blu-ray add-on for the 360 was long rumored, but never came to fruition.

Blu-ray technology has come a long way since it initially debuted, as their drives have gotten faster, allowing for more data to be streamed more quickly, storage has grown, and discs have become cheaper to produce. Therefore, if the new Xbox has a recent blu-ray drive in it, it could see larger storage capacity (allowing for larger, more high-resolution textures as well as less discs) and less of a need to install game data onto your hard drive, which is common on the PS3.

No Used Games?

Perhaps the most controversial news to come out of this week was the rumor that the system would not allow used games to be played on it. The rumor is unconfirmed at this point, as are any specifics of how Microsoft would be able to prevent used games from working on the platform (whether or not it's through using one-time-use codes for authentication or some other means). Regardless of Microsoft's strategy for implementing this, it will no doubt be a controversial addition to the system should it prove to be true.

Publishers have been adamant in their belief that used sales are bad for the videogame industry, and fired a shot across the bow with the introduction of online passes a couple of years ago. However, the outright refusal to let used games play on their system would be a crushing blow to brick and mortar stores like GameStop who make a sizable chunk of their revenue from used games, or even retailers who have just recently gotten into the used games mix, like Best Buy and Amazon.

Rendering used games unplayable on the new system would be a crushing blow to retailers like GameStop.

No More Microsoft Points?

While it doesn't affect the next Xbox exclusively, Microsoft's phasing out of Microsoft Points would have some big ramifications for the upcoming system. Many gamers find Microsoft Points to be a cumbersome system that almost always results in unused points and "spare change" that can't be used on anything else. A straight money system has worked on the PlayStation and PC downloadable platforms for many years now, so why shouldn't Microsoft adopt a similar model?

There are a tremendous amount of eyes looking to Microsoft for official confirmation on these reports, but we will certainly know more on what the system will really offer in the months ahead.

Could this mean that the next generation of consoles streams games through cloud gaming? This could explain why they opted for a minor hardware upgrade.
