Xlink Kai is a game tunneling program that allows you to play system link or ad-hoc games over the internet. It's been mentioned by a few people in a few topics, but it hasn't had it's own topic created here yet.

So does anyone here have Xlink Kai set up? I just installed it last night and I THINK I have a working setup, but I can't know for sure without someone to try the game with. The only players I've seen in Broken Destiny's Xlink Kai chatroom don't speak English, which is a bit of a handicap for me.
 
i tried it once... but i couldnt get it working at all...

i read somewhere that you need something for your psp... so its probably that that im missing...
 
I've used it in other games but not BD so far. (I don't own the game yet) my experience would suggest it owuld be far too laggy to be properly playable over Xlink Kai. Is this not true? What is online play like in terms of latency?
 
im using it (same name) but its really laggy. you really need to play against someone from teh same location
 
The program works like this afaik,

Your PSP -> Wireless Ad-Hoc connection -> X-Link Kai Program -> Internet -> Someone else's setup/PSP

The only hardware you'd have to buy is the Ad-Hoc piece. Here's a list of network cards that are confirmed to work with Xlink Kai. If you have one of those laying around that's cool. I found one of my dad's old wireless laptop cards (not on that list) and Xlink Kai can see my PSP just fine through it. Not sure if it actually WORKS though, since I don't have anyone to try it with.

anyway, is soul calibur must be USA or can it be EUR?

I am planning on just go buy the wifi max or usb wifi adapter and then plug it to my pc. and then connect my PC to my DSL, run the xlink kai client, after that using my PSP to connect to my computer's wifi adapter/wifi max. will this work?
 
Odd. Fixed the link.

That sounds like it'll work, and the version you use has to match the version your opponent has (I guess). Most people are using EUR I'd guess, for the 5.00 firmware requirement.

my wifi card also connected to my PSP
it is also configured nicely by xlinkkai
been to the fighting room in the xlinkkai

but how come I cant detect any player in my battle lobby?
I am using vista btw. and using EUR soul calibur BD

and well after that, there are no player anymore there....sounds like this game is unpopular in xlinkkai:P
so far I see only this sssland0 user that cant speak english.

Yeah, I haven't seen many English speaking users in there, and the few that understand me ignore me pretty fast.

I found one person tonight that was willing to try, but we couldn't connect. Probably because I'm using the EUR game and they were using an Asian version. Anyway, I'll keep Kai open for the next two hours if you come back and want to try.
 
Got it working once with someone in Europe, but it was unplayably slow. Then as I tried to match up with someone from SC, I somehow killed my settings by testing Monster Hunter. Can't get Kai working again.
 
Ok, here is the news, I went online to the xlink kai forum, and people there suggest that I go get the planex wifi usb that was created specifically for xlink kai(it has "xlink kai" writing on the usb, not sure how it looks like). So I go get that item from sewelldirect.com and tell them to ship it to me.

I gonna get it by today before 12 PM.

U suppose to be able to play with me much faster than guys in europe. I think that guy may be using slow internet:D. how many ping does he have?

Well...I think once u are able to make it work, it will keep running. I will go online again today on xlink.

My ping with him was over 300ms, so I expected it to be bad. We tried for maybe 10 minutes to connect, and did get two games in. Then, I tried to play with someone from SC (and I'm in NC, our ping was like 60ms or something) and we couldn't get a single game to work after trying for half an hour.

Not being sure if it was the game's fault or my connection, we went to test MH and that's when it just stopped working. I can't get Kai to see any SSID anymore =/ I'll try to get it working again soon.
 
on xlink kai now...whoa. as always, there are players but none speak english...

managed to make this work, tested it on monster hunter even played with some people etc.

notes on other wifi card user:
1. make sure ur wifi card/usb can run xlink kai.
2. on vista u need to DOUBLE install the driver! Install the driver for vista and install the driver for xp. never install the newest driver. basically if u never have to enable: xlink mode from ur network connection properties, big chance the xlink kai wont work even though ur psp is connected.

anyway, I am still online...on xkai:(
