What's good about SC5 is the Soul Meter system. To me its a replacement of SC's previous soul charge system. I also think SC4's Soul Gauge system has potential and can be used alongside with the Soul Meter system.

Regarding the guard meter mechanic : Its an excellent compliment to the edge meter. The only problem I see is that it seems like there are characters that excel at both breaking the guard meter (with heavy guard damage) coupled with very strong CH combos.

If a character is both good at crushing guard as well as landing a meaty combo after it (that normally would be difficult due to being very low range/unsafe/linear..etc) that would be a intentional character-specific niche rather than just another attribute that separates the high tier from the low tier.

I didn't like the mechanism for the random clothing break from SC4 that was height dependent, but I did like having a drawback if you got armor-broke however. If you got guard-broke once your character should be more vulnerable.

I hated how wonky the Guard Impact was in SCV, I'd end up doing that by accident when I wanted to Critical Edge. Make it like SCII please.

Huh?
The CE motion is nothing like the GI motion. Thats purely error on your part.

At the end of the day though i can take it or leave it. I think Soulcalibur has just been trying to figure it all out.

Considering the fact that pretty much every fighting game has some form of meter management i wouldnt be surprised if the guard meter and edge meter returned. It would be interesting though if they went back to SC2 roots.

Ya that can be problematic, but with both, there's room for creativity; it depends on the developers, and who knows the combat system may change.

sorta of a slipper-slope, I think stuff like that should be in story mode. You know what the 3 pieces of armour is good for? Charade, you can break the upper portion of its body so it won't grab nor guard but you can't use highs or use grabs either; you can break the lower portion of its body so it couldn't kick but you can't use any low attacks on it; and you can break its mid armour w/ the existing eyeball so you'll be focusing on mids to attack its weak spot.

In canon Setsuka is still alive and she still fights. No reason she can't come back.

Eh, training orphans ain't fighting. She's done with Mitsu anyway. (I honestly won't be surprised to see that style removed completely with both of them not returning).

Saying that is like saying EA is great company.

Well my statement is correct while that is wrong so no.

Canon is about get a serious overhaul after the change in leads.

Maybe. Doesn't mean that aspect will change (though I wouldn't be surprised).

@thenewperson - Your saying it's ok play who's available. So it's ok to have a bad story mode designed just make the main protaganist super cool, have a damaged style, and to forget that Setsuka even existed.

Please, tell me what Mitsurugi has been doing the last 6 games. Nothing. Sure, 'looking for stronger people' but that got stale a long time ago. What is Patroklos doing now with Pyrrha? Nothing. Not unless they bring something new to his story to make him fight again, and if they do that they could easily do the same for Setsuka.

Also, this is a fighting game. Story and canon don't really matter when it comes to the characters and gameplay. Half of the SCV characters weren't/were barely included in the story.

URYA.

Actually Miturugi had been at constant battle with Taki and Setsuka, and he had battled Algol so that's definitely something.

It would be interesting to know what really happened mid 2012 with Tago and Daishi. With all support for SC5 being cancelled and Tago and Daishi disappearing (after having said they wanna make sequels to SC5), it's certain something out of the ordinary happened. Considering Daishi was usually pretty outspoken, he must have been told to keep his mouth shut.

Not implying there's some grand conspiracy (Daishi was smuggling slaves into Japan!?!), but it would be interesting to know if it was due to disappointing sales of SC5, if they moved SC team members onto other projects, or some other reason.
