Soul Calibur 6 Discussion

The only way 20 characters would be acceptable imho is if they give cut chars' SCIV-V outfits to CaS, as well as movesets. Yet that would totally destroy the competitive side of the game...

We can see Sophitias 2P here and it's just a recolor. Hope that's not final, would be a shame if they didn't keep original 2Ps, its a staple of the series.

Yeah hoping for Alt costumes. This one especially is my favorite Sophie's one:

"random ancient saying"

...random ancient saying.

It's a line said by the most virtuous character in "Romance of the Three Kingdoms".
One of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature, written in the 14th century and read in several countries- including Japan, during the very era Soul Calibur takes place in.
If you actually knew something about history, you should know that the RotTK characters are either repulsive real-life villains or fictional, after all, its a romance which somehow turns the most repulsive characters into heroic figures. So, yes, random ancient saying. I don't give a fuck who said that, its definitely not something a virtuous person would say, its sexist and even inhuman towards wives.

This bottom line troubles me. There is zero reason to cut existing franchise characters to package into DLC, zero.
You want me to get really real about this shit? Here goes.
Financially, the bigwigs figure it's a cheap way to sell something else that's already done that they can piecemeal away and act like it's completely new to essentially make more money back than they spent.
To explain:
Say a developer develops 24 characters that are finished by launch.
The publisher says "Hey fuck that, take 4 of those and let's sell them as DLC."
Congratulations, you just made back what could amount to half of the game's entire sales because players feel obligated to buy them, especially in something like a fighting game where characters are honestly a complete necessity since you can't train against a character you don't own.
And that's where fighting game character DLC truly fucking fails and is particularly scummy. It isn't as "optional" as you are ever lead to believe.
That is a lie. In a fighting game, to truly know the ins and outs, you have to have every character. There is no argument against it. It is fact.
Otherwise, you're handicapping yourself and your knowledge of the game.

It's possible that they're going to give her that as a P2. Since they're giving her a revamped P1 from SC1, they'll likely do it again for this installment.

I truly hope that isn't the case. I feel like Bamco were pretty good in that regard with Tekken 7, the DLC characters seem to be strictly novelty guest characters. But considering that the core game was developed years ago, there's plenty of time for them to have changed their mind.

Yeah, but don't you think the very fact that there will be DLC will turn people away from the game? In cases like MK9, Injustice, MKX and Injustice 2, the games felt complete, so even if you were to buy DLC, you were only getting additional content. If SC6 releases with a small roster and announcing a bunch of DLC, it will not feel complete, it will feel exactly like cut stuff that will make people put the game low in their priorities list. Sure, its not as "optional", but if people are not choosing your game in the first place, then it will not matter.

Are we still talking about the roster? Okubo said in one of the interviews, I forgot which one, that the character list will be a 'complete' roster/collection/experience, I can't remember the exact wording but he definitely said 'complete'. To me that means no cut-characters, or at least no cut popular characters, to which I infer means maybe a few of the characters at the bottom of the population poll will be ignored.

Okubo has been good to us so far, so some of the reactions over a screen with little white circles on a yellow background that isn't even symmetrical in a demo of a 70% finished game seem to be a little much.

Mmh, I can see ReversalEdge becoming annoying really fast.

Its constant activation by both characters in almost every round disrupts the flow of the match, too. Not really a fan of that mechanic. Otherwise it's looking good.

We've been fucked once, we're cautious now ^^ better safe than sorry!

Yeah it's something you're going to have to look out for, and have to be on your toes about at all times. What I want to know is if it's unsafe on block.

I will quote some of my posts from today regarding this topic ^^

Hmmm... seriously - i am not a fan of meterless guard impact, never was - - -and now we have a second defensive mechanic, that can be easy spammed across the board.

In another gameplay vid, i saw that the Guard Impacts "cost" soul gauge (at least it looked like it) - if this is the case it is a fine replacement for the meter cost.
In my opinion, the possibility to punish a fail guard impact or Reverse Edge isn't really a negative aspect - because that is just the basic risk of a movement and those defensive abilities are pretty strong/impactfull, because they turn the pacing of the fight.
There needs to be a cost/limitation - but in they just overdid it in SC5. If Guard Impact would have cost 1/4 of a meter bar it would be fine by me.
But i also like the idea to bind GI "cost" to soul gauge, and i hope they add something similar to Reverse Edge.

Edit:
Sorry forget that RE costs high amount of Soul Gauge on blocking moves and it can break.

Yup, same here.
But as far as i can see, people will use it very often at the beginning and the better you get/the more you get familiar with RE, the less you will use it or lets say you start to use it tactically - similar to good players use GI in attack chains where it is "safe" to GI.
RE will also be a good counter for GI.
And you can "beat it" by aggressive tactical gameplay (many fast attacks with fast recovery)

Buuuut it is symetrical ?

That's the main topic since it came out today.
Any new topic to suggest ?

Yes, unfortunately though the arguments are cyclical and everyone's point of view has been expressed many a time. I'd rather speculate the story or character moves we hope return or hope are modified, like I love the extension of Sophie's AA poke that now weaves into a third stun attack.

Maybe I'm just grumpy bc I'm really sick.
