[Buffalo, NY] How'd we get to be so S-RANK?

GGs. Was happy to get 3 people to play MB:AA with me ;0 I'm declaring myself ambassador to games that aren't SF4.

Cha also introduced me to Desparga(or w/e) most awesome bad fighter I've played in awhile.

im offically taking a week after tonight. i wasnt happy with myself at all. time to take a good long week break. and think shit over, and try to improve myself to another level(hopefully)

I may be able to get us free tickets.

Are you actually boxing in this one? What night is it on? If it's Saturday that'll work out great, if not I may not be able to, I have to ask for a lot of days off at the end of November and December.

^yeah i know what ya mean i just got so frustrated because i put in the time and been working on a lot of shit and then i come over thursday and you wreck me like no tomorrow. i honestly wanted to throw my stick out the window and say fuck street fighter forever, i just wanted to quit and i've never felt that way before.

I am not gonna quit the game but as of right now i feel like i've reached this plateau and i can't figure out how to get pass it. i train, try new things, watch vids, read match up threads but i'm not sure if thats helping enough. next bet is to get a cam and record all my matches and study the fuck out of em. hoping that works.

if any of you guys have some ideas on how to help me improve that would be grand

Generally in any kind of activity, learning, working out, studying, etc. When you plateau it's simply time to take a break.

When you're trying to lose weight for example, you naturally hit plateaus several times, and the answer is to take a break, and then *change your routine*.

Essentially from a psychological standpoint, if you want to get better with Abel past this point, you should spend some time learning a new character, or even a new game, and then come back to Abel in a couple weeks. Plateauing is a function of long-term sensory stress.

Nunie, are you boxin? I'm deff down if you can get free tix, hell might be down anyway.

In other news, breaks = good idea

If you don't want to stop playing entirely, I think a real good tip for those with SF fatigue is to totally switch up what kind of character you play. Like if you have no fireball, play someone with one. Or if you play a defensive character, try rush down. Also, playing your chars worst matchup can be an eye opening experience. If all that leaves a bad taste in your mouth, do the Matt Brown method and just practice only the hardest execution combos and set ups for a week. Practice counter hit set ups on random counter. Do situational training, backdash training, or practice option selects. There is a lot more we can do with this game, we all gotta study up and then push each other together.

Or, play another SF! Skills will transfer! Just don't play your main in the other one....it leads to real bad things.

in my limited experience, i found it's not good to only play street fighter. i like to play other games to get my mind off sf4.

taking a break a week at a time is not a good idea imo. a couple days is more than enough. so like since we played thursday don't play till the saturday game night. might do better if you just don't play for that 1.5 days and show up.

edit: taking a week at a time, for an execution heavy playstyle like you and me got ryan. not a good idea.

jeff said this. try playing a character you have trouble against. it helps notice the limitations of the character and also their strengths. i wish i could do this. but i attempt it sometimes lol and fail miserably so i don't really get much out of it.

also, just a friendly critique,

but you need to be a little bit more unpredictable. maybe learn some new setups. we didn't play last night but from my experience i see mostly the same setups which lets me do big damage. like say.. whiffed tornado throw because i neutral jumped then i hit for a big punish. i remember for a little bit you used to throw out normals to stop my neutral jump after your standard link/block string. should do that some more. it helps stop me from neutral jumping at will or all the time, then guessing right on the whiff tornado throw.

try to be more offensive too. this helps mix up your game and keeps the opponent guessing. i think sometimes you play way too passive.

something like even changing what tick throw you do or the way you do your tick tornado throws, can go a long way. just an example, i usually tick throw'd after 2 jabs. now i start with a lot of different stuff like... c.lk or c.mk, it's shown results for sure. same could be applied for abel and anyone for that matter.

that's just some food for thought from my perspective.

I think you guys that are having problems need to focus less on improving your character, and more on improving your observational skills. I joked with Tony P last week against Jeff that he should have turtled in a particular spot, but I should have been more specific. Turtling isn't necessarily camping across the screen and being dumb (although that works too, SF4 lol) it can be moving into range, and then baiting a reversal. Tony was making a comeback at the time, continued to push forward aggressively, and lost at the last second to a reversal.

Try to watch for things like these, moreso than what you're doing with your own character. Most of you guys are already pretty solid with the characters themselves. Kyle I haven't watched you play specifically in a while, so if Jeff says you're being too passive, it may be true. But be aggressive in a careful manner. Keep your range, but don't go all out attack every time, and watch for chances to bait a reversal.

Also who's playing MBAA so far? I know a couple people who will be interested for November, so if you like the game it'll be worth playing.

Chach: Yo I have my videogame job thats tonight. are we still on for magic. Can i bring a friend? its that adam guy i was trying to bring before but he got into a car accident and basically screwed his (and my) plans a few weeks ago. he's definitely not shady or creepy-like, but plays (or has played) magic like us, in fact im gonna see if he can dust off his old snake deck and bring it too. Ill try calling you later

I wont be fighting. It's Pro matches, I'm still on that amatuer jumpoff. It's at the buffalo convention center and I should be able to get a few free tickets so I will keep you guys updated because I rather watch fights with friends.

I need you guys to stop typing essays when your posting lol

Kyle - Abel tips for yu!:

use C.HP as a meaty stuffer; takes more damage, has more active frames, 2 hits means 2 chances to hit confirm, leads to more damaging combos than COD, P, P variation

in alot of fighters, I like doing random moves that are safe from a distance and/or as long as they don't connect
to trick them into making them think I'm open, so they'll throw out a move that will whiff or I'll block it and punish.
with abel, after I do a tornado throw, or end a COD with the punch variation, I do a QCB+LK immediately afterwards
it looks like it's gonna be a meaty stuffer, but abels foot falls short, he lands and by the time the downed guy is able to move, abel has already taken a step back and is able to move again lol. They'll do a reversal, i'll block it or it will whiff, leaving them open. to mix it up a little, I might do the MK version so it'll actually connect

If your gonna tick throw, use lp tornado. it takes less damage than ex but it has the longest range out of all versions
(99% sure on that, if not, EX and lp version has the same range), and don't do it more than after 2 hits.

EX: jump in mk, c.lk, tornado throw
Ex: F+MK, F, c.lk, c.lk, tornado throw (F+MK, F brings you in close so it resets it lol)

Cross up set ups:
c.hk - HK roll (you'll end up on other side) jump towards him immediately with mk
DP throw, HK roll (repeat lol)

yeah, sure. just call me whenever

Joe, This is what Guy was capable of in SFA3:

xenozip makes Guy look like the best character in the game lol
