Demons souls

Warding makes the False King do very little damage to you should you get hit.

The hardest boss for me for a bit was the Maneater. However, I did find out that you can kill the initial one before you even enter the fog with arrows. And then, if you're mage spec'd, you can kill the clone with one cast of the Fire Storm.

Also, Jaxel, I think you may mean Dragon Bone Smasher rather than the Meat Cleaver. Meat Cleaver scales with magic damage, while the Dragon Bone Smasher is S rank for STR.

Anywho, the witch isn't that difficult as a mage. You can use bow and arrows on her. I do agree with you on the Old Hero though. It's an annoying challange getting to it, but I've got a good method down using bow and arrows, and the Dark Silver Shield to kill the second Reaper. And using God's Wrath to kill the 3rd one.

Oh yeah I also forgot about those angry red eyed knights with the two handed Claymore (I think).
Man even after leveling up so much, getting caught in a barrage of those swings will get you killed fast.

Really it's like the entire game is angry at you. At first sight I thought the Tower Knight was pure BS, but then after the Flamelurker, the FUCKING KING OF EVERY MOTHERFUCKING DRAGON...are you kidding me!

The Warding spell or the Second Chance miracle give mages some wiggle room for withstanding attacks.

Dealing with invaders is way harder with magic than melee though, aside from ambushes, cause they can be pretty hard to hit with any spells if they're any good.

I agree about the trek to the old hero.
I blue phantomed for people for a while to help me get that level down consistently.

I didn't find maneaters so hard though.
In theory I feel like they should be harder, but I think that the fact that they fly away and give you breathing room so often keeps them from being as hard as they could be.

Also, Enkindu, that avatar is godly.
wtf?

Scariest boss is 3-2 how can you guys not agree. I mean when you think you got it boom you get caught with that (insert spoiler here) and you get trapped and the area you fight him is a pain in the ass. The hardest thing I think would be 5-2 trying to fight those 5 giant goblins in the swamp I mean come one just one of those bastards can kill ya ON SOLID GROUND but 4 of them in the god dam swamp is just stupid.

Seriously though man eater is the toughest boss in the game there is no way to debate this he is the hardest and scariest boss to go up against.

The witch is harder as a mage. As a warrior, you can run up to her, and then smack the shit out of her. With a mage, you need to weed out her copies, and then you really only get 1 or 2 shots at her before she restarts her cycle. Another reason why the game gets so much easier towards the end with a Warrior is because NO SPELL, not Soul Ray, not Fire Storm, nor Gods Wrath will EVER do as much damage as a decked out warrior two-handing a MEAT CLEAVER.

As a mage in NG+, False King Allant was also very hard... as I said before, ONE mistake and you are dead; I had to team up with a warrior to beat him. The warrior just ran up to him and started laying it down, soaking all the damage, and occasionally running away to eat some herbs. Yes, I was in the back, blasting the king with my strongest spells, but it wasn't doing nearly as much damage as the warrior's Meat Cleaver.

For me, the scariest boss without a doubt is Old Hero. Not necessarily the boss itself, but because of the amount of work required to get to him. That second grim reaper, with the female specters that shoot lasers out of their eyes is a pain in the ass.

The witch is not harder as a mage. You can just sit in one place which makes you less likely to hit a trap. False King allant isn't that bad either. His attacks are easy to avoid for the most part, and if you a mage you have should have warding which cuts his damage down a ton. Any mage that doesn't have warding equiped is dumb IMO.

I agree with Juece, Maneater is the most annoying boss to me. Of course the Old Monk can be a pain online if your opponent is good.

The Dragon Bone Smasher is a good weapon, but you need to factor in more than just damage. It's slow, and it takes a lot of stamina to use.

A mage can dish out a lot of damage too. Equip Kris, Monks Headwrap, Clever Rats Ring, and Insanity Catlyst. Lower your hp below 30%, and, with a decent magic stat, you will easily break 1K damage with Soulray.

Dealing with invaders is way harder with magic than melee though, aside from ambushes, cause they can be pretty hard to hit with any spells if they're any good.

If you are using the right weapon then a mage can brawl just as easily. I use a Crescent Uchi +5 and a PFS+10. I can easily go toe to toe with most warriors. It's always funny when someone thinks anti-magic field shuts down mages. To the me the scariest thing during invasions is when someone has a large sword of moonlight. Couple that thing with lag, and most mages are screwed.

For me Maneaters were easy. Once I got my flame sword and Warding them bitches went down fast.

King Allant was very boss, because of all the cool shit he had, but Again Flame Sword and Warding and you done. I don't think I died in that fight.

Now that mutherfuckin Old King Duran, it's even scarier when he chases you, needless to say I never killed him.

Best trio those three knights at the Penetrators entrance. Angry, menacing, and will chase you towards the end of the earth.

The place I hated the most was the swamp realm, really disgusting place, the ugly goblins, the babies, and that phantom with the Cleaver, that dude killed me a lot. And I just kept going back there.

As much as I want a demons souls 2 I don't think that will ever happen. There so many stories within the game but you're not apart of them, you're really just third person. It sucks because I really wanted to be immersed with that world.

If a sequel did come, it would have to be a prequel... something at the time the great fog was moving in.

Impending_Doom, it's weird, but I actually get more damage if I use the Talisman of Beasts. I tested it, and I get about 200+ more damage with Soul Ray, and I get the MP boost too. It might have to do with having a high Faith skill as well. I dunno for sure. Don't forget to add that Ring of Magical Sharpness too. You can also boost your magic a ton if you upgrade the Kris Blade with colorless demon souls. +5.

Old King Doran, if you want to count him as a boss, was one of the most difficult. Just because you don't do much damage and his attacks were kind of unpredictable. My char is level 235, and I've gone through the game 8 times so far, but even then, I still do shit damage on him. I dont even mess with him now unless I am really bored.

@Jaxel: I don't think im going to be only a mage, I'm not focusing on my strength too much, got it on 18 just to wield some stuff, Im mainly focusing on the magic stats and vitality.

Also since I plan on not having much strength would a good final weapon for me be the uchigatana? I'm gonna try get the dragon smasher sword or whatever it is but it probably won't be that good with little strength/ dex. Since you can upgrade the uchigatana for the damage bonus to be from your magic should i do that once i get it?

Also another Q: I have a bunch of souls (not the currency type) the one you find off the ground. E.g renowned heroes souls... Is there any use for this or should I just eat it?

These are my stats atm im a royalist and ive learned soul arrow, soul ray, enchant weapon (5000 one) and evacuate.

vit:22
Intelligence:14
endurance:11
strength:18
dex: 13
Magic: 18
Faith: 12
Luck: 7

What should I upgrade next and how should my stats be like in the long run? I want a mage/ melee char.

Thnx :)

Just read this page after seeing a crystal gecko in 2-1, it escaped:

http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/crystal-geckos

So does this mean that I've lost one potential gecko forever? It says that if it escapes then decrease the respawn count by one... I know I should have loaded game but at the time I didn't know what it was...

I havnt killed any1 in any other levels so i bet they all got away too. So does that mean I've lost all them and can't get the max amount of them in a game? I know they respawn after you kill the boss but not killing it before means i've lost it right? Not too sure, maybe you only lose it if you kill it but don't pick up the drop?

The TOB has a C in faith and magic while the IC has an S IIRC in magic. The damage is close, but once your magic exceeds like 50 maybe, the IC will out do everything. I forgot about the Ring of Magical Sharpness. I need to play this some more, I want to make a Blueblood build.

Yes that means you missed it. They respawn one time eveytime you kill a boss in that world. That gecko isn't that important, but there are some other geckos that you should really try not to miss. As a whole, unless you plan to grind a lot in this play through, I would say ignore the geckos until NG+. However, there are certain ones in World 3 and 4 that you should not ignore. These geckos drop moonstones and darkmoonstones, and the drop rate for pures is crap. You should probably get PBWT in those worlds before you go after those geckos too. Darkmoonstones are used to make crescent weapons so have fun/

Best trio those three knights at the Penetrators entrance. Angry, menacing, and will chase you towards the end of the earth.

Equip thief ring or the black phantom ring, and then you can just pelt them with magic or arrows while they sit there.
Old King Doran was easy for me. Poison Cloud cheese all the way, but he sometimes reacts to it which I don't understand.

If you are using the right weapon then a mage can brawl just as easily.

This is true. I think that this doesn't get stated enough in fact. W/ a crescent weapon, moon weapon, or northern regalia (dragon weapons too early on) a mage can hit extremely hard w/ melee weapons. As such, a mage is still a very viable melee warrior.

I think in general this game's hardest enemies are player sized enemies such as Doran, BP Selen Vineland, and the 5-2 Cleaver phantom.
All of them can be cheesed though.

Sponge theres no point in trying to use the Dragon bone smasher as you need 30 St to wield it. Use a Haldbred or Miridian hammer and just make it a blessed or whatever the other one is called that is affected by magic stats. Thats probably the best weapon to have out side the north regelia. Also if your like me and don't really use a shield try to get the large sword of searching and just equip it on your left hand and dual wield with your right to get the affects of it.

Oh and those souls you find on the ground you should just eat them when you need souls to buy stuff or Lv up other wise you can just save them. Though later on like in NG+ they become pretty useless as they don't give you enough souls for crap

5-2 Cleaver Phantom was a BITCH... you are stuck in that swamp, getting poisoned, unable to move at full speed... and that fucker has their full abilities, and acts like a normal person. If you run into a user controlled 3-3 Old Monk, and you are a mage and your opponent is a warrior, pretty much its IMPOSSIBLE for you to win.

Laggy firestorm begs to differ.

man these gecko's are annoying me now. I've killed 1 in total. I tried to kill the same 1 but it was stuck in some spot, i fired some arrows at it and it wudnt die, didn't kill it so re loaded and and same thing, then i lowered its hp and tried to go round and get there as quickly as possible but it still didn't move and when i got back it dissappeared... guess i shud have killed it then went to get the drop later.

My second one just walked off the map...

Third one dissappeared into a wall and wasn't there when i reloaded... -_-

And i really need materials to upgrade my uchigatana. I think i need those shards of sharp stone, i have a ton of other stuff but none of them left, i spent a few on upgrading my kiliji which was kida dumb.... Where can i find those?

can any1 around a 40 soul level help me kill doran? I wana get the sword behind him and also his armor since it seems to be the best weightless armor in game (im still in default wizard robes lol, not mobile enough in heavy stuff). Does he drop his armor guaranteed?
