vs. Astroth

even though i can really enjoy, and do play a lot online, there shouldn´t really be a need to ask, hahah.
the discussions in the character specific forums should be about offline play. in my opinion.

what are you having problems with, specifically, Dragonfall? any scenarios?
i´m not much of an X player, but i think X and Yoshi both needs to close the distance and use their speed up close vs Asta.
just be patient and work your way in. i´m pretty sure X has a few moves good for closing the distance.
learn Astaroths throws, so you can identify if you´re eating an A or B grab, and start playing the mindgame which comes with breaking throws.
most Astas will use or want to set up their command B grab, which is the one where he throws you high up in the air and can either go for an air throw or 22B for lots of damage.
 
Indeed the problem is that I get zoned a lot. The move where he swings his axe one handed has tremendous range, and the hitbox seems to be longer than the model, so I keep getting hit since I think I'm safe. Also a lot of moves seems to knock X far enough that she can't punish.

66A after that move. Will kill most moves asta does i think...

A+K helps a lot with a grab friendly asta :)
 
Punish Asta's "Knee" with 6K??? Bullrush is annoying, Asta uses it to catch some step but mainly for range and TC, use more mids against him, break B and don't jump, I thought about it and figured ducking would be better, his FC grabs do leass damage than his command throws, 2A+G rings out with your back against the edge, 2B+G rings out with Asta's back against the edge so break accordingly... Keep in mind Asta does have an i12 6A leading to good dmg on CH, space him and prevent him from poking you... When Asta is spacing you 66A and 66B are good, never finish 66B... Use 3A, 66K, and aK for spacing at mid-range, I'm sure there are more mid-ranged tools for X's spacing, Impending Doom might be willing to help with that!!! Use 66A+K*11A+K*A+K~etc on wakeup to prevent Asta from getting away, I'm sure there's other stuff for this too... Don't throw out random low grabs, whiff one and a good Asta can low grab you!!! Instead, stick to X's regular A+G, 214B+G, and SXS T for throws, punish lows with the low grabs if you like... Focus on covering ground, stocking up on SXS, and SCD with pokes, use basic mixups and frame traps, also I belive X needs to remain defensive against spacing Astas... Don't tech trap the Astaroth with something that doesn't hit grounded (1B*3B*66K hit grounded), instead use the KND advantage to dash in for a mixup... Hope some of this helps...
 
I like punishing Astaroths 6K with 4K, 3B that puts her at enough range to come in with A+K I believe. Its been a while since I played X against Astaroth.

for that move in particular, just duck, or attack with a tech croutch move if your feeling show-offy. from that croutch, you can launch him with 3B (rising), since once its past you, he is open. that can open up a lot of combo choices. Rising 3B is a staple of my personal X style xD

as for the range game, doing A+K closes it quickly, letting you do moves from it. You can even buffer something like 44K B out of the spin.
another thing i use for range, just to put pressure as i get closer, do the :a(K): K K A , since it attacks with a steady flow while going forward.
