I think you should broaden your horizons my young friend. If the mainstream's got you down then head on over to the indie and alternative side of town.

I dunno I'm a spaz for beardyman. He's an alternative beatboxer from the UK who loops his vocals to make whole songs on the spot, normally with genre and topic chosen randomly from members of the audiance. His shows are also sprinkled with comedy(albeit a little immature but it makes me laugh).

Some artists in the industry have a higher volume of enjoyable songs than others. But for the most part, almost everyone only has a few songs that I like, and that's often from artists I'm supposed to frown upon. My point being: There wasn't really a golden age of good music.

It irritates me when people classify "mainstream" as a genre, when it's just a term to categorize what's hot and what's not. I enjoy a tune that makes me wanna dance, no matter what the lyrical content, and as long as the singing/speaking/rapping is legible (i'm talking to you, Ke$ha). I also happen to listen to punk rock and other subgenres from the likes of Paramore, Linkin Park (their recent material has been sucking though), and etc. If it's pure rap and hip hop music you're talking about, take it from the veterans of the last decade (Eminem, Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West), or take it old school (like Will Smith, lol).

Now, the real problem for me lies in the new hip-hop of today (as well as those amateur teen sensations, like Bieber and Black). Black and Yellow? Wiz Khalifa? Waka Flocka Flame- motha fucking lame.

Today's cradle isn't the greatest. They really shined in the 90's though.
I'm one of the minority that really liked damnation and a day - feel free to shun me now XD
I will say though, British metal pretty much rules the genre. =P
And DIME - I like Nymphetamine, but thornography isn't my favourite personally...

I made a claim that 1996 was the death of good new bands (obv a few exceptions in there, but as a general whole they weren't spotlighted). All music from that point was shit unless brought from a band before that point...but in the last few years music has recovered from the shit stains such as Nickelback, Avril Lavine, Avenge Sevenfold (yeah they can play there instruments...but their songs fucking blow), 3 Days Grace, Fall Out Boy etc... and we're seeing great new sounds from the indie genre and redefinings of old styles.

The Black Keys
Cage the Elephant
Death Cab for Cutie
Passion Pit
Lady Gaga (you may not like her style, but you can't deny her talent and execution of her style)
etc...

We're seeing people who can write, play their instruments, and making very unique sounds again. So no, I think we're finally seeing some good things breaking up all the bad shit I've had to endure for over a decade. I will say there's not anything coming out of heavier sounds though. Harder rock sounds these days is still absolute garbage with dickheads growling and screaming in microphones with retarded lyrics and I would like to see that change. Hardcore, Post-Grunge, and Screamo/emo need to be phased out and make room for good rock genre's again.

This argument has been going on for as long as I can remember. What do I think? I'll sum it up in two words for starters. "Who cares?"

It takes a real musician to appreciate what people do to keep music alive. I'm thankful music is still a wonderful option as a career. Though I know a lot of people are not musicians, but if you don't like what the public is displaying then just ignore it. Don't spit on the people who like it either. I'm not a fan of mainstream works here in NA, but I'm not going to bash them for putting out what the crowd wants.

In any case, I like all sorts of music. My favorite of them being Visual Kei. I like the style and the music portions of it.

Example:

'60's-90's was the best music imo. Im 15 and I preferr all that, where it was singing instead of yelling, actually playing the chords and music, rather than programming it so you hit 1 key on keyboard and you have your whole damn song.

Believe it or not, Damnation and a Day is my FAVORITE album. Seriously. I can't describe the surge of pure awesome that goes through me whenever I hear a song from that album. Not to mention the theme was just so fucking poetic it makes me cry. "Satan's side of the story..." I believe is how Dani described it, but in more words.

Nymphetamine was my first Cradle album, and I fell in love with the songs like Absinthe With Faust (how can anyone not see the lyrical AND musical genius in that song?) and Overdose.

As for Thornography, it gets waaaay too much hate. Sure, it was guitar heavy - but it was different and still brutal. Dani's getting old and can't keep up the same vocal perfection, so he tried a different style of singing. I respected that and I actually liked it.

Bleh, sorry. Touchy subject for me; I absolutely adore Cradle.

Edit: And let's not forget how they came back with Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder. That shit was epic.
