I'm not saying I don't like sc2 but I wouldn't call it the best, not the worst either, but I have a few problems with it 1. just because its fast it isnt balanced 2. The bonus characters were pointless clones and liz shouldn't have been so complicated to unlock 3. why wasnt spawn on every console 4. why no playable inferno 5. Cassandra was a pointless clone with no difference to sophitia 6. raphael, ivy and xianghua were broken 7. not problem so much as a opinion but the series got better with each installment, an arcade mode with a few extra cutscenes and a game speed so fast it disguises balancing issues and makes more, rook splitter spam anyone, does not make a game better. I'm going to /v/ now, before the "scrubs" as you call them hound me into oblivion, £50 to anyone who proves me wrong. P.s sc3-4 nightmare eats sc1-2 nightmare for breakfast.

Well it was a fast paced game it was very well made and I'm going to assume that they took there time. If im correct.

Talim was first introduced, so finally one of my favourite characters was mid tier at least xD Had tira been mid tier in a console version of sc3 I would change my opinion.

You think that talims debut makes it a good game bullcrap she's a goody twoshoes who will always be low tier, safe NM is boring and their all well made

For me:

1. The speed
2. The music (loved the Valentine Mansion theme)
3. My favorite version of Ivy.

Great stages, great new characters (Raphael and Talim for me lol), great music, great speed, weapon master was very enjoyable for me to complete except I just hated the long long mazes, weapon gallery (hey! I enjoyed reading about the weapons and it'd be nice if that mode was brought back to SCV...) and Soul Calibur 2... had nothing to hate about it basically. Oh yea, I also liked Inferno as a final boss and the stage was on fire (literally) so it made it even cooler. I know SC3 stage was also on fire when you fought Abyss but... it just didn't have the right atmosphere for me. Again... why do I type so much?

thanks for attacking me, however;

one. I can say soul calibur 2 was the best one because I saw some youtube video of xianghua chasing ducks around on a highway, I dont give a fuck about you or what you think.

two. Talim can be as much of a goodie two shoes as she wants to be, as long as she still rocks the tonfa, I couldn't care less about 99% of the casts personalities. Tira's excluded.

three. people like you are hilarious, fine, keep your disgustingly unsafe and slugish sc4 nightmare, Less of a problem for me :). a soul calibur 2 NM would absolutely devour sc4's NM.

four. why do you even care? If you honestly think sc4 had the best night mare ever, you obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

Cant say if its the best SC cause i only played SC 2 and 4. But i think its a lot more interesting then SC4 for the following reason; The game is faster overall and more cancels in moves (if i remember correctly). It made the game more dynamic and the matches more interesting. The battles felt alot more like 'battles'. In sc4 its more like p1 hits , then p2, then 1, then 2 etc... In sc2 i thought you could pressure awhole lot more.

If u think balance in Sc2 was an issue.. no character in that game was as broken as hilde in SC4 :)

SCII was the best because it was highly fair. And the Guest characters weren't terribly stupid.

Talim doesn't use Tonfa's. She uses Elbow Blades combined with a Fighting style taught by Filipino's in the 15th century that Involves Martial Arts in combination with her weapons. Although EVERYONE in SCII had horrible personalities.

Agreed. SCII NM was super sexy, then he got double nerfed :( SCIII was the worst SC game to date. Although I don't see why ANYONE would like SCIV NM over SCII NM. At least he wasn't some Terrible looking suit of armor with an Orb in the middle.

four. why do you even care? If you honestly think sc4 had the best night mare ever, you obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

Yup, Pretty much got it. SCIV NM is terribly Unsafe and GI punishable. 44B+K? GI. 236A, B, or K? GI.
A+B? Crouch Hit/Grab Punish. Not to mention he is SUPER slow on some of his frames. 3B, 1A, and 44K are super useless offline. I miss his soul charge fuzz, those were the days when 1B was useful and 6k wasn't his only Non-Pressure move.

safe NM is boring and their all well made

You never met SCIII NM have you? Worst NM ever. Even SCIV is slightly better on Some hit frames. Are you even good at the game or are you some random NM fanboy that just joined 8way.

If it's the latter I have to shake my head and cry at you. And even IF talim is low tier (Which she isn't in SCII btw) she can still destroy the later NM's with 22_88 B+K alone.

That being said Low tiers can still win out of your lack of knowledge :)

At least her weapons can't be called a sword XD
I think they're Dual Tonfa Style Blades to be exact. Personally, I've always reffered to them as elbow blades though.

anyway, before we turn this thread into a Talim thread, lets get back on topic.

I find it sort of funny that you think soul calibur 3 is balanced compared to sc2. lol

The real truth is people usually say the first game they seriously played. Sure, I played Soul Blade on PS1, but I played Soulcalibur in the arcade so SC1 is my sentimental favorite. I liked SC2 but I remember it pissing me off in a lot of ways when I first played it. I didn't care much for SC3, but if I played it competitively I would have probably hated it. SC4 was the first SC I actively disliked when I put my hands on it despite it being a relatively good game because it didn't even feel like a Soulcalibur game.

Every game has its fair share of problems and people tend to overlook the shitty aspects of their favorite.

SC1 was really limited in unique characters, moves, and it had stupid moon physics.
SC2 had a useless GI, broken avoid system, and characters had huge movelists that were rendered obsolete by a few godlike moves.
SC3 had crappy 8WR, was too unsafe, and stupid glitches.
SC4 was full of shitty unsafe moves and it's sloooooooooooooooooooow.

The bottom line is most people got their first REAL taste of the series in SC2 (since SC1 was on Dreamcast a lot of people missed out and SoulBlade is pre-8WR and doesn't even count in my book...it's like Tekken before sidesteps), so that's what they love.

Interestingly enough, I think SC5 will be well received among SC1, SC2, and SC3 players since we'll be thrilled that it's a return to the overall feel of the old days, but I think a lot of people who got in on SC4 will hate it.

I have to disagree though, I first played soul calibur on the dream cast, soul calibur uno, and I still found sc2 to be the best, most likely though its because in sc1 I didn't really have a style I appreciated, I just liked the game in general, in sc2 when I got who is now my second favourite character in the series, it gave me a character to grow attached too, while still keeping the general core game that sc1 was.

I feel like sc5 is going to blow all of them out of the water, granted this is all the pent up hype I've been gathering since the first petition. I can not wait!

SC1 still had more variety than Soul Edge/Soul Blade. Besides it was the FIRST of a fighting game so it's supposed to be limited anyway. Tekken 1 had just the same things you mentioned.

SC2 GI wasn't useless just limited. The avoid system wasn't broken. I disagree with that entirely. You could easily Avoid a good Chunk of Mitsu and Maxi's A hits. Although verticals tracked more than ever o.O Also it had ALOT of fun modes like Team battle and I remember spending Hours reading the information on the Weapon info thing they had >_> I think it was Weapon Gallery or something.

SC3 was just bad. The CaS style sucked. The story mode (If that) was too boring and weird. The balance was horribly bad. Alot of unreasonable nerfs to a good majority of the SCII cast. Not to mention Setsuka/Tira were overshadowed by Xian

SC4 is just Block. Hit. Block. Hit. Block. Grab. Block. Hit. Block. Hit. The story mode is disappointing, the Bonus Characters are a waste, Only one of the SW characters are legitimally good (Even though they were a waste to being with). The CaS is good but you're still making clones of another character and in some cases the CaS is worse than the original (Primary example being Rock.) Also alot of unreasonable Nerfs and Buffs.

Thus being I would say SC1 and SC2 were the only good games out the franchise. SCIII and SCIV lack proper balance with SCIV being more of a "HEY THESPIAN YOU USE BB WITH MITSU" then you go "HEY SHADOW USE AA WITH ROCK!" back and forth for 20-30 seconds until one of us throws out a random grab or worse...A lag tactic.

It has the most attention to detail. Outside of mechanics and competitive play...it's the game clearly they spent the most time on.

Fuzzieviking:
1. I said "people usually say" not "people always say".
2. I made a distinction between people's first game and the first one they played seriously.

ShadowCollector:
1. You said that avoid wasn't broken, then described WHY it was broken. Swing and a miss.
2. You're talking about single player modes and online lag? We're not even in the same ballpark.

Avoid didn't activate versus horziontals. You could easily step around a lot of horziontals, but not avoid. The problem with avoid is that different characters had different lengths of windows as to when avoid could activate, making it easier for some then others. Which is honestly a symptom of the real problem in SC- different characters have wildly random different step speeds/durations, to the point of not making sense. This is a problem in SC2 and every other SC game that has ever existed.

SC2 is the best game because every character is a threat in high level play. Name a character and I can recite at least a few terrifying mixups and at least one example of a player rocking with them back during the day. I never felt like I stomped someone in SC2 because they picked worse characters then me, whereas I KNOW I've beaten good/better players in 3 and 4 because they picked some awful low tier that I knew how to pick apart.

For the record, there was nothing wrong with SC2 GI. 2G lost to things to, and frankly, made it way more intresting. 2G was a worse problem in block strings and stance glitches (NM 3B, although ironically that made him competitive, too) then it ever was in GI/GB scnearios. (And I'm not sure how you can say in a straight face you'd rather deal with useless GB's in 3/4 over GB's that give gigantic + frames but are 2G'able in SC2.)
