[Southern California] Kings Of the Ant Hill

Oh snaps, we starting to build a SoCal scene again! I've been trying to talk to the people at the college I live near to see if they can host something but their president is never around and they are so disorganized that trying to find someone in charge is a task all its own.

I'll keep you guys posted though.

which college?

I just bought SCIV just to get used to the 3D mechanics before V comes out.

I host sessions on Fridays for MK, and I would be more than happy to have some setups for SCIV and V when it comes out to train. One thing I do know is I wont be playing SFxT competitively but I will SCV. I'll push the scene as hard as I can as long as I have support, just as much as I have with MK9 here in SoCal.

Hit me up if you want to come down for sessions.

I see that the SoCal scene has big plans of growing. Well, I got some ideas to make it grow.... FASTER.

On the day of SCV release (if there's midnight launch) I was thinking of handing out to the people in line little papers or cards introducing them to the website 8wayrun.com and other stuff they can find here such as info about tournaments and regional sessions and maybe references to some of the best players who are maybe willing to teach the noobs.

Now, if sadly enough there is no midnight launch, or if there is there is nobody in line, I still think we should ask gamestop to kind of hand those cards with every SCV purchase, OR just have them for take at the entrance.

Another thing I'm gonna do if that happens is add my contact info in those cards so we can get the introduction started, AND once everything is in place and we have enough people, we'll ask gamestop to host some regional tournaments and stuff, kind of like the Pasadena tournament we had.

That's what I was thinking, but only I can't accomplish anything with only one gamestop lol so if you guys are willing to help out...

We have tournaments over at the "Legendary Lotus" in Orange every other Sunday for MK. If you guys want, we can have a tournament then and there. Brian the guy who runs EGP is really cool, so I have no doubt we would do it.

How many heads do we have in SoCal willing to come out? If we have enough, I'm pretty sure we can even get something going for SCIV just to get the scene started and familiarized with everyone.

AfterDarkGaming streams MK/AE/MVC3 there as well, with MK being the main event. I'd love to see SCV there. But like I tell everyone, the most important part for a game to survive is the community. Anyway, let me know what you think, a possible tournament there would most likely be a 100% thing. But we should start organizing now.

I'm down, that's only half an hour away from me. It should be really close to NFK, too. Other than that though I'm not sure about who'd be interested.

Really everyone, we need to have a talk about how we're gonna establish the new SoCal SCV community. We actually have a severe lack of players right now. I was hoping some of the players that set up local tournaments after SCIV came out would come back, but we can't assume anything. Right now we no idea how big this is going to be and prospective players will be looking for the community in the form of leaders and venues.

I think we need a new thread. There's a San Diego thread, which is SoCal but they don't post in here. Specifically this is more of an L.A. area thread, and should advertise as such.

So far, we have two guaranteed places to choose from, venues where we have confirmation that the TOs will run our events:

-2 Good Gaming aka 2GG at CalState Long Beach. This place was really crowded last time we went, and it's possible they don't really have room for us. This occurs every other Saturday, with one being this week.

-EGP in Orange, every other Sunday. Sounds promising, I'll definitely want to check the place out, even if no other SCIV players will show next time.

Other prospects:

-PC Arena in Fullerton. This is where we played after the local community died down because of people quitting for SFIV, Tekken 6, or Hilde or some reason. It's highly likely that old players coming back will assemble there, if they do.

-Some guy at 2GG this one time said they'd open their place for SCV casuals. He used to play SC2 a lot.

Now that I think about it, we're looking pretty good in terms of places to play. All I'm worried about is a lack of community presence at the moment. I don't want new players feeling like they have to start the community from scratch if they even want to try out the game competitively. I don't want anyone stuck as an online-only player.

If anyone reading this plans on playing SCV offline around the LA area, please make yourselves known.

I plan on playing SCV offline if it's a good game (so far so good). Really excited for this game. Like Krayzie ive been messing around with IV just get used to this kind of game. Hoping the game is good and gets a good scene!

I really like RIDLEYomega's idea of getting the word out at local Gamestops. When the game is new and fresh, that'll be when people are most likely to join. At midnight releases they have a new copy of the game and are hyped to play it, there isn't a better time to get people than that...

Of course, the more plans we have the better..

See, ok here's the thing. What I'm aiming at is bringing NEW players to the SC world and expand our horizons... what you people seem are aiming at is bringing together the players already interested and playing SC.

Now, both of them are good. We bring out the already existing SC players out of their caves and have a scene for them with a place for small tournies or casuals, HOWEVER, we all know they won't give a fuck and they won't travel UNLESS IT'S WORTH IT. Meaning, if it's a "meh..." kind of tournament or gathering where you see like 2 or 3 people, they won't even bother, "For what? I can just play online =/"

This is where my part comes in. As the community grows, they will start to see that we have more and more players. They might be noobs, yes, but they won't really care as long as they have the chance to be at an event crowded of people that have the same interest, and the opportunity to teach something.

So ok, both parts are good, I was just saying and giving my point of view goddamn it lol I'm not done yet, one more thing. We can't really have ONE place in particular for everyone to gather and expect the rest to show up. Trust me, just like 95% of the players, I'M A LAZY FUCKER, I won't travel unless (read paragraph 2) yeah. So what we can do is start looking for possible locations all around what we know as fucking SoCal so we don't get shit like "too far =(" or "I don't have a car" or even shit like "my mom won't let me" lol fucking, I don't think you need mom's permission when the tournament is around the freaking corner.

I know what you mean, I really don't want to have to go up to Pasadena where you are or El Cajon where HRD is for weekly casuals (but I'd still visit those areas once in a while). But travel time and the way we divide things up depends entirely on the how many players we have and is limited by the size of our venues, which is an unknown right now.

I do like your idea of sending players to 8wayrun.com for starters and if they want to join the competitive community, they come in from finding the local thread and attending events on here. Before I was worried about where we were gonna put all these players.

wow...
I think it'll all work out if we enjoy each others company.
I'll drive 30mins to hang out with cool people, however I won't even walk across the street to hang out with nerds. Not that I'm calling anyone here a nerd... I'm just saying you can't really plan for group synergy. It happens on its own if at all.

I plan on gettin' this game and devoting a lot of time to it with the goal of competing. (unlike my involvement with SC4... kinda had to twist my arm for me to play)

So if you wanna get fucked up in SC5... look me up.
If you wanna learn how to fuck up other people... look me up.

Same place... same time... everyday...

If you guys wanna learn how to roll kids in MK9, I can help as well.

Tommy vs Daniel PPV nights with a side of Beef? (sorry Brian, had to use your tag instead) once again???

Well..... I'm from Chula Vista, California but mainly raised in San Diego so I still confirm that i'm from SD. I live in Houston, TX *Sigh*

I appreciate you posting here and opening up your place (this is the owner of PC Arena I was talking about), but nobody's trying to plan group synergy. People from the FG community that have interest in the game will be looking for a place to play, I'm just trying to decide where we should direct them and wondering how this is all going to play out.

Alright so I talked to one of the dudes at the college and they said there is no game club... even though I spoke to the vice-president once. I don't know what to do...

I know what you can do. You and the other guys up there can come to my bi-weeklys at my place.

At least Im trying like hell to get at least a few people to come out religously every couple weeks. If they grow, then hopefully more players will come
