Competitive Player Coming to SCV from Mortal Kombat

Hello all,

I just wanted to take a second to introduce myself. I'm coming to SCV from the Mortal Kombat scene (my main game). I'm an established tournament player in the MK tournament scene here in SoCal and have competed at several majors, placing top-10 at the ReveLAtions major earlier this year. You can see a ton of my tournament footage at http://www.youtube.com/user/CaliMaestroMK

I've been following a few other fighters this year, but SCV has had my attention the most. I fell away from the SC series after SC2, but with the game announced for EVO I am really looking forward to coming back.

I've had a few chances to play the game, and really like what I've seen so far. I'm a producer in the video game industry, so between conventions I've worked at and majors such as SoCal Regionals where the game was playable, I've had my hands on it a few times. The game feels really nice, and I'm really excited about it. Can't wait for EVO!

Thanks a lot everyone, I look forward to being a part of the community =)

Because it doesn't stack up at competitive level, pretty much everything that it does at least reasonably well has been done and is being done better by other fighters still going competitively. That and the fact it gets patched so often that it makes life harder for anyone trying to take it seriously. The only thing it has in its favour that's head and shoulders above the rest is gore, but I'm a nurse - I see more gore at work, lol.
And I speak from experience - I've finished top 8 in a MK9 tournament myself. (Take all comers, London)

Not a bad fighter to learn how to play FG's on, I will admit, but as a competitive main game? I just don't see the appeal. =/

I am AMAZED you put up with MK9 for so long, lol.
Welcome to the boards. =)

MK is by far the most balanced game out there right now. See last years EVO finals, 8 different mains in the top 8 - far different than the Tekkenish Bob vs. Bob mirror match fest that EVO was forced to sit through last year =/

That aside, Thanks for the welcome lol!!!

Cool beans dude, where in SCali do you reside at?

Orange County, Huntington Beach.

Are you in the area?

I guess that comes down to whether you consider balance a good thing or not to be honest... =/

I live in paramount! You live fairly close to me, yay! :)
Are you interested in hosting gatherings at your crib? I know this might sound a lil forward, but everyone else I know from SoCal lives 30 mins away and you're the closest to me, lol.

Interesting perspective =)

MK is balanced in a way where all characters are unique, not the generic, everybody has the same tools balanced.

Exactly right.

I'm always down to host a gathering, for reference lol... http://www.twitch.tv/epicgp/b/302832298

That was a massive gathering of players from around the country at my place here in HB the night before SCR last month. EGP (Epic Gamer Productions, http://www.epicgamerproductions.com) is the main tournament I attend here in SoCal. Hopefully Brian (the TO) is gonna be running SCV, he has been pushing MK since it launched and is now really working to grow the KOF13 scene here. Most of my MK training buddies from EGP are picking up KOF as their second game, looks like I'm alone in SCV. So yeah... I'd definitely be down to try and help with the scene here in SoCal. My wife (who is also a gamer lol) loves having people over and is usually at the tournaments with me, and when we throw events here she usually cooks up a feast heh.

Looking forward to it!

Sounds great! Hopefully you can talk to some of your pals to try SCV out when it's out! Maybe it'll change their mind on playing it.
