Cervantes Q&A / General Discussion

This opinion is based on playing the game about 4 hours, so if there is some super potential he has, I'm not seeing it. By all means, correct me exactly what I'm wrong about.

-66K CH, gone
-Instead of 3B side step, now I get 33B which was 11B in SC4, very annoying
-WS Game seems like ass. What am I missing here?
-His throw game seems improved, I'll gladly give it that
-iGDR's range seems shorter
-His meter throw, the A one, as soon as you see a glow, break A
-BT B+K doesn't launch after 3B. Really namco?
-BBB CH doesn't RO or wall splat anymore
-BT 2K doesn't knock down. So if I do 4b to BE to get the safe, guard crush iGDR, what BT mixup is there? They can stand there and take BT 2K all day and 2k grants zero adv

I'm assuming you know something I don't, by all means share brother

33K CH will knockdown, not 66K. After 4B BE, it's really just a throw/mid mixup if your opponent freezes, because that's the only mixup that justifies the meter usage unless 2K kills off your opponent.

ShenChan: I'll have to remember that part about 33K CH, thanks. I was not aware of that. And yes, 4B BE seems to be no real mixup besides mid/throw, very sad

3B = 93-103 damage combo, no meter, or you can settle for 80 and great wakes if you're feeling conservative
iGDR = 100 damage combo, no meter
33B = safe, forces crouch, tack on a free iGDR to make it 80-90 damage, no meter
BT B+K (all versions) = launching iGDR for 100+
3A = crumple stun on all hits, excellent way to "encourage" people to block your BS verts
4A = great range, seems neutral-ish on block, breaks guard in 10
4aB = free launch_iGDR into 100 damage combo of choice
aB = 40 damage now, still an excellent punisher
Dread Charge = very strong overall due to his good guard break game and the extreme damage rewards of most of its options
Outstanding backdash to set up whiff punishment
Possibly the best CE in the game; super fast, grants combos, punishes safe moves, etc.

Oh, and my best wall damage so far is 143, no meter, no JFs.

For fuck's sake, Nori, we have to go through this every game. You always want to say Cervantes blows until JOP or I teach you how to play. ;)

HAHA Nobody has "taught me" how to play Cervantes, tips here and there is not teaching me how to play. I've done great over the years on my own sir. Plenty of people have bit shit off of me and I've done the same, but nobody taught me to play the pirate brother. But do appreciate the reply and I'll put more time into it

You also have to understand nobody knows these combos you are referring to, so naturally can't fault people who DON'T have the game for not thinking he's super bad ass

what are good ways to start wall combos now that we don't have WR A 4KK, also when CE wall splats does it give a good wall splat or one of those shitty ones that gives you like a 2K

66B is reliable still.
Haven't tested the CE, though suppose I should, given the number of times I force people to block DC A by walls (free aB or CE there).

Could someone fill me in on what iGDR or iTP are as well as any other cervantes specific notations? I can't find this info anywhere in the cervantes forum.

think cervy should of grabbed more but great gameplay outside of that
Wow, after seeing this video, and reading the debate between Hates and BatousaiNori, I think Hates is right. I believe our Cervy's play style have to change. In my opinion, SC4 Cervy's style is safe, punish and cheapshot with his mix low mid. But in SC5 now, we have a power house, Namco has increased the high risk high reward factor of cervy into another level and also his damage output. Although he is more unsafe but he still can break the guard very fast. The turtle mode in SC4 is dead now and I like that. All we need is adapting the new playstyle of SC5.

PS: In this video, after iGDR I see Cervy perform a move like 214:B+K in SC4 is that our new WR B+K or what ?

The iTP showed in the video is actually iGDR on an airborne opponent.

A couple of things.

3K~BT B+K and 4KK~BT B+K still exist. Wonder if the timing is the same.
JG into iGDR shenanigans. =)
at 8:36. Back-turned JG. I can see more iGDR spamming now.
Finally, dat CE PUNISH. I called it!

I skipped SC4 Cerv 'cos he was a pile o'crap, but that 3K/4KK ~ BT is awesome, how do you do it?

I disagree, Cerv was by no means a bad character - and he was fucking beast by wall.
3K_4KK:B+K
Its basically a just frame where you hit B+K in the frame/s he is BT in recovery, kind of like 8A+B:B+K but after the attack if you catch my drift.

I don't know Silent_Joel. Actually, I see in some combos Cervy perform 2 times iGDR, but some combos he performs iGDR and some moves like Dread Charge B+K in SC4. Is this our new iGDR or new move ?
