Move Spamming?

I didn't know there was an official guideline for spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spammity spaaaaaaaaaam!

LOL! I should've been more specific.... the 'guidelines' I stated only applies to any room I create and host... and perhaps will be applicable to any random casual match I play.. ^_^

In keeping with those guidelines, I get to have a better online SC5 experience... whilst accommodating peeps who might irk more 'serious' players.

But in the end of the day, peeps really has to keep in mind at all times:

IT'S ONLINE CALIBUR!!! >_< (note the lack of 'lag' tagged on the statement... SC5 netcode FTW!! ^_^)

...its never to be taken 'seriously' nor 'personally'. We're all supposed to have fun in it!

...if it's not fun for you... why not just up and leave the room/lobby and join another one. Plenty of players rinsing the game. ^_~

Welp, I guess I'm going to be banned from your room for *spamming* 88/22 B with Hilde and using her main combo a lot.

LOL! hell no! You've not read my guidelines properly.. ^_^ ...everyone's always welcome in my room... if ever I make one... =_=

Just make sure you're not offended by my Pyrrha Omega, with a tendency to 'spam' due to a somewhat limited moveset... =_= lol!

I was jk. lol
But believe it or not people call me a cheap ass for doing that. I don't know how that is cheap at all considering the guy I was playing against used Xiba's Edge attacks 4 times in a row.

Dude, I just picked up hilde yesterday and I was already called out on using 22B c2B.. now if I can get the turn around into 3B Be for more fun.. but yeah, I'v gotten more hate with day one hilde, than I ever got with Mitsu.

Everybody has their own opinions on what is and isn't good play. Again, the key is to figure out what is fun for you, and find others that feel the same way. If other people don't like it? Don't play with them.

I will space properly, play footsies, zone and control the situation until I see someone mindlessly spamming. Then I retaliate with my own spam, not because it makes me angry, not because I think spamming is cheap, not even if it ends up not working at all. I do it because its a big "HEY IM AUTOPILOTING RIGHT NOW" sign on anyone. It shows they're committed and tunneling and most likely flustered and think they've found something to fall back on. Usually this leads 2-3 minimum punishes.

Just because someone doesn't like people doing 3B constantly with reckless abandon doesn't mean they are bitching or bad. It just means that shit is boring to them so GTFO so they can find someone who can use different moves and have a chance at beating them. Stop labeling shit at the drop of a hat every time people. I trash a true spammer and boot them. Punishing and smart safe play is not spam. Holding a direction and pressing one button is.

Not everyone knows the difference so you have to bare with the ignorance.
What??!?!!

"just because someone doesn't like the spam doesn't mean they're bad." Ok....
"...GTFO so they can find someone... ...and have a chance at beating them."

This smells like contradictions to me.

This thread has reminded me of something about myself. I've been a casual Soul Calibur player (though I'm taking SCV more seriously) but I do have some skill in Guilty Gear XX.

I'm bringing this up because there were certain instances where I would spam a single move in that game, though I don't think it should qualify one as a spammer. As more of a show-boaty trick, when going against a more novice-level player, I would sometimes claim I can beat them with only one attack, using my main character of Baiken. From there, the match would start, I would neutral jump to gauge an action, my one attack would be revealed if they moved forward at all. The attack is jumping slash (j.S). It's a move with ling start up, and poor recovery but extends far enough to protect Baiken when the hit box becomes active. I would then remain in the air, doing floaty jumps the whole time, carefully pressing j.S while choosing the best direction for zoning.

2 rounds won in a row, using a move that's just combo filler due in part to positioning and reads on my opponent (who gets too scared to mash after a few moments if they're smart). Now, technically I'm spamming a move. It's a shitty move by itself, and can only be used while in the air. Yet, there you have it.

So what would you call it if one spammed a bad move through the match and won, using careful spacing and good reads? Is it spamming at all?

I can understand thinking that a spammer is exploiting a glitch. But practice mode gives you the chance to record the spam tactic and learn work arounds and see for yourself that it's not exploitation.

People aren't there for your entertainment, maybe next time you open a room, you make everyone read a detailed rule list in advance and agree on your made up rules.
Actually yes they are but you keep thinking that man. I mean I do this shit for entertainment.

What??!?!!

I won't lose to a spammer so why should I sit there and keep racking up boring wins when I could boot them until I find a decent player capable of pushing me to the edge and forwarding my knowledge of the game.

I smell someone who can't comprehend.

i think that every time i come back and read this thread i get a little bit worse at sc5.

there is no such thing as move "spam".

at the heart of it, the very premise of competitive gaming...or competitive anything really, is this; find something that works and keep doing it until it either stops working or you win.

if that something happens to be 3b3b3b3b3b3b3b3b3b3b3b3b3b3b, then so be it. i win. it isn't called "spamming". it is called "easily beating someone who is really, really, really bad."

So I won a match with the spam Viking and received hate mail. I replied "Spam spam spam spam spam spam spammity spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam!!!"

...would probably be lost on the poor individual if he's never seen the video clip.. nor perhaps seen or heard about Monty Python.. >_<

Speaking of such. One of my CaS's is the Black Knight. I lost a match and the guy in the room replied "Awesome, it's the knight from family guy."
Someone else said "*Face palm*"
The guy who beat me said "Dude you got your ass kicked."
I said "It's just a flesh wound."
Face palm guy approved of my comment.

Did I emphasize this enough?

Reave, Please do elaborate and bless us with your vast unlimited knowledge. You do know everything there is to know about everything right?

You say that someone who hates spam isn't bad at the game. Very shortly after you said that it's better for them to play someone who doesn't spam so they'll have a chance at winning. According to you I'm not comprehending this when I say it's a contradiction.

So, how are these NOT contradicting statements?
