How Would you se the roster for the next SoulCalibur ?

What the fuck is wrong with you people!? Why don't you also make a Street Fighter with no Ryu, Ken nor ChunLi. Or a Mortal Kombat with no SubZero, his role in the story is no longer needed. -_-
There has been a Street Fighter game or 3 without Chun-Li though. There has been one MK without Scorpion (MK3).

That's kind of why Namco and Midway don't choose to go forward with their story mode. They fear that the fans will go on a rampage because Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Scorpion, or Sub-Zero aren't in the games. That's how they do I guess.

What's wrong with him? He's been one of my favorites since the very beginning. I don't see what's wrong with him other than his speech disability. Are you Herpetophobic?

His importance in the story seems so.....non-existent. I wouldn't suggest removing him, but he does need some development in that area. His fighting style is okay though.

I honestly can't say exactly what it is. He's like one of those people that are annoying just because they are there. I'm starting to hate him less as the series goes on though.

Actually, let's get rid of everyone, nobody is really important in the game's story. I know! let's make a game where the only returning character is Talim, and all the other characters are Hwang clones. And you have to make a custom character with a crappy moveset to play the game! It's gonna be so awesome! -_-

Thank god these people aren't in the actual SCVI thread.

I'm just going with story purposes. I mean, what more can Siegfried do now? They honestly would want to keep him battling Nightmare forever? I like Siegfried, don't get me wrong but seriously...

Hey, the question was "How would you see the roster for the next Soul Calibur?" So people are just giving their thoughts. xD It's not like anything is set in stone. And I actually do like Lizardman lol I love his weapon concept in SC5 and I hope they keep it. ^^

Oh god I can see it now... PS bullshitting a story about how Sieg was Hilde's children's father. One would take up the Zweihander while the other does sword & lance. They never said those kids age so they can BS is how they want. >.<

I can see them doing something like that... lol
Indeed i wouldn't be surprised if SCVI was with 2 Schtauffen Kids, both in two versions and an angelic or whatever Siegfried.

Actually i don't mind as long as there's a ninja and they avoid another Final Reveal debacle.
I don't mind 3 Mokujins and 4,5 Alexandras but many people seem to which is understandable.
And it leaves a bad impression.

People have to understand that no fighting game developer gives a damn shit about the story when making a roster. If they get rid of a character, it's only because: a) Marketing reasons, b) They character would be too hard to elaborate, or c) They just literally feel like it. Why do you think they replaced of Taki? Because young anime ninjas are the biggest thing in the teenage otaku community right now, not because of story. Why do think they got rid of Talim? Because changing both her style and look from a 13 year old girl to a 30 year old nun would require to basically make a whole new character. Why do you think they got rid of Rock? BECAUSE THEY FELT LIKE IT YOU GENIUS.

Note that NO REMOVAL OR REPLACEMENT IS EVER CAUSED BY STORY. That always comes later. Really, they could have even kept Sophitia young and pretty like they did to Ivy, and make her Patroklos' mentor, we'd still get three Alexandras. They just don't really feel like it. The story of a fighting game always comes afterward. The development cycle of a fighter always goes as follows:
  • A producer generates basic premise of the game.
  • The producer develops a basic project explaining the game and why it's worth investing the money in it.
  • Basic project is presented to the publisher (eg. Namco). If the publisher agrees, development begins.
  • A team of designers, programmers and several other professionals is created (the developers).
  • The basic mechanics of the game are discussed.
  • The creative leaders decide what the roster of the game will be.
  • A "plain" beta version is made to showcase how it plays. The publisher approves continuation.
  • Development separates in different groups:
    • Group 1: Programmers and Animators. These are the people that make the actual game.
    • Group 2: Artists. These are the people that make the game look pretty.
    • Group 3: Sound. These people are in charge of making the music, recording the voices, etc.
    • Group 4: Writers. These are the people to blame for the game's shitty story. In most cases though, this group doesn't actually exist, and its role is taken by group 2 or 5, which is why the story sucks.
    • Group 5: Creative directors. These are the people that mediate between the other groups. Usually only the people with the highest positions in the development group do this (Director, producer, etc).
  • After everyone is done, the whole thing is put together once again (usually several beta builds of the game are made to test quality, find errors, etc). By this time, the publisher SHOULD have advertised the game so people know it exists.
Yeah. Note how story comes in WAY later, and is usually not even done by actual writers.

Yeah, I know that story doesn't matter in fighting games. I was just looking at the whole Siegfried debate from the story point of view but I already know it doesn't matter. I mean, Namco could keep him in FOREVER AND EVER because they know he brings in a lot of fans. Same with Ivy and *insert character here*. So trust me, I know the logistics of how certain gaming companies go about with character decisions and I wasn't disclosing any of what you said. Especially with the decision to scrap Taki for an overly anime aesthetic character like Natsu.

I guess I just have that story mentality because while fighting games occupy a lot of my gaming interests, the first ones I also like playing are adventure type games (that aren't FPS). Plus, Soul Calibur and Tekken in the old days had a rather interesting story that personally drew me in at the time. But yeah, bottom line, I get what you are saying. : ) Nice share.

Same chars from 5 but putting Zas in and 1-2-3 brand new ... i don't know whats the hype about the girl with the tonfa blades Talim ...

Include everyone who's not dead/still makes sense to be a part of the story, except balanced (not that I know who is or isn't balanced, but it seems a good idea).

At this point, I really should't expect any old veterans to come back in the next one. I also want SCVI's story to be told 2-3 years after SCV.

So.....

Returners:

Patroklos
Siegfried
Hilde
Viola
Ivy
Mitsurugi
Maxi
Leixia
Natsu
Xiba
Cervantes
Nightmare
Algol
Aeon
Yoshimitsu
Raphael
Astaroth
Tira
Kilik (the NEW Edge Master)

New Characters:

Nightmare Pyrha (since she was left with that Nightmare claw in the SCV ending)
Cursed Revival Werewolf Z.W.E.I
Mitsurugi's brother
Korean Character/Yun or Hwang's student (with a fusion of Yun and its own moveset)
Yun and Talim's daughter (an improved version of Talim's moveset)
Salia Olschmidt (a longtime member of Siegfried's Scrarzwind)
Bangoo
African Swordmaster
Suave Spain Guy (weapon style TBD)
Evil aligned twin #1
Evil aligned twin #2
Scythe User (Plays half like Zasalamel and half like Testament from Guilty Gear)

Come to think of it, has there ever been a European longsword-wielder? Technically you can give Mitsurugi a straight sword through Create-a-Soul, but still.

Zweihanders are pretty much German longswords, only slightly exaggerated. If you want a closer weapon you can just try a few of the CaS weapons for Mitsu, Leixia and several others. Yet another sword style would be a wasted potential slot TBH.

And again, there's a thread for SCIV.

The time must come where the SC story actually expands towards the American continents. I think PS has uncovered something great with the side storyline of Taki going to the western continent, so I'd love to see some characters emerge as a result. Something like Mayan or Aztec warriors, Native Americans, etc.

How do I see it? Well if things continue on the path they are now we'll have Nightmare and Seigfried with their own movesets, (Nightmare will have an i7 unblockable that does 180 damage, and none of Seigfried's moves will actually hit).

We'll also have Sophie back, Cassandra, Pyrrha, Patroklos, Rothion (raised from the dead... because Soul Edge... or something), Sophie's uncle and third cousin, and Soph and Cass's brother Lucius, as well as alpha, beta, omega, epsilon naught and chi-squared versions of each one. All of them will use sword and shield with subtle variations between them, except the Chi-squared version for some unexplained reason will have Grieve Edge's moveset. (The reason will actually be explained in the art book, but it will only be published in Swahili and distributed to Ellesmere Island).

About half the rest of the SC5 cast will be in, but be mimics of those two, because... astral chaos... or something. The rest of the characters will be gone, with the reasons only explained in the Swahili art book.

That's how I see the roster shaping up for SC6.

With Hoshino in charge, I see the roster of the next game being like this:

- Sophitia
- Cassandra
- Pyrrha
- Siegfried
- Mitsurugi
- Ivy
- Taki
- Setsuka
- Nightmare
- Tira
- Astaroth
- Voldo
- Cervantes
- Yoshimitsu
- Talim
- Yun-Seong
- Seong Mi-Na
- Rock
- Talim
- Kilik
- Xianghua
- Maxi
- Raphael
- Amy
- Zasalamel
- Hilde
- Z.W.E.I.
- Algol
- Lizardman
- New Character (Male, badass warrior)
- New Character (Female, hyper-sexual)
- New Character (Male, anime hero)
- New Character (Female, moe)
- Guest Character

This isn't just my preference towards the older cast, this is seriously how I think the roster of SCVI is going to be. It just matches up with Hoshino's apparent tastes.
