online slower then vs.

I dont mean in terms of input lag, what i mean is the game seems to run ever so slightly slower.

20 frames in VS is 1/3rd of a second, online 20 frames seems like 1/2 a second, the whole game kinda feels like VF4 under water mode where everything runs slower. i can block GI, JG and avoid moves MUCH easier online then in vs, even against the same people doing the same tactics.

anythoughts?.

I don't know.

Online is all casual, all the time. You're missing out on some valuable matchup experience...

It is slower to make it look easier to react when playing online. It actually is easier, sometimes your reflexes may seem to be better in online vs. offline because of this.

CheeseOfTheDay may be looking into this issue using a 60 FPS camcorder to find out what's the exact difference between online and offline.

why would namco do this to me?. it actually changes the timing on JG's and JF's, the idea of slowing the game down so it's slightly more playable online is beyond retarded.

It happens if your connection itself is bad enough to "require" it. It's not slow by default.

The worse the connection, the more slowdown.

Should be really easy to confirm. Record some moves in local play and then record the same moves during online play, and then compare the footage.

I haven't noticed online being slower, but if it's the case, that's actually rather smart by Namco.

If it was the same speed it could feel like Tekken 6, for example. Slowing it down made it look much more like online. To be honest I like this idea, I'd rather play such online than the full of lags Tekken or SCIV netcode.

just record the full 60 seconds of some guy hitting B over and over, then see if both records end at the same time, i have a feeling 60 seconds in the online mode will last about 61 - 62 seconds in real time.

Cheese said he might to record an online match in 60 FPS, record its replay and compare the two videos. Hope he gets it done.

It definitely does feel slower online, but as mentioned before that is probably on purpose so that you can adjust to the input lag and react to mixups.

I gotta disagree with you on this one. The input delay from SCIV was unbearable, unplayable. By slowing the game down a little, it makes it possible to actually react to stuff and buffer at the earliest opportunity, so you can learn matchups properly, and play w/o excuses. You can actually play high level matches in SCV, which was impossible before.

It's worth noting that input lag alone drastically changes the timing for everything. Slowing things down is one way to counter that.

If I have time later, I'll do a quick record and comparison.

horrible programming is not a valid reason for accepting bad programming.

it's not like it can't be done, VF5's online is amazing and that game is fast as fuck..

no, it doesn't, input lag is fixed, there will always be X number of frames between move inputs online and offline, just the start and end will be shifted over slightly but the window will still be the same, the way they've got it set up now they've stretched the window instead of shifting, which changes the timing for online and offline

i hope this makes sense to people, with normal games the timing input is still the same even with lag, what they've done with SC5 is elongate the window making it actually longer in real time.

That... is patently false.

Input lag is the time before a move starts up, not the time it takes for inputs to register between moves (I don't even know how you got from here to there...). And the difference is VERY MEASURABLE in SCIV's online, and the reason it was a total joke of a mode.

It really depeneds on the connections involved. I'm always getting slowdown against some of my friends, others I honestly can't tell the difference.

It's definitely not fixed. It'll vary depending on who you fight against and it may vary in the actual fight depending on the connection jitter.
