Why is everyone a dick on 8wr?

I'm going to be responding to these two points and genuinely not trolling you.

Point 1: Threads getting closed in forums because the mods think people are scrubs -

The reason threads get closed in general for people being scrubs is largely because scrubs are posting and arguing with each other on points that are completely uneducated. Rather than let these "intelligent debates," as I've so eloquently heard them put, continue on; we close them. Because to be honest, both sides generally show they have no clue what they are talking about. And while you try to make a point (in this thread, no less!) that what casuals have to say about things like balance patches is worthwhile, to be completely blunt, it isn't. Now I know that's going to sound elitist and mean to you, but I've summed up this very same point in a post I made much earlier on 8way. If you really want I'll go find it and link it to you. But to make things short pretty much: Yes, there may be somebody out there with a ton of skill but until they prove that skill; we cannot take their word for it. Tournaments are the medium by which skill is proven.

When you make a balance argument and someone who is well known in the scene and has wide knowledge of the game comes in and disagrees with both of you, something is probably wrong with the argument you're having. So yeah, there's no reason to let a giant clusterfuck flame war continue.

Point 2: Don't be a dick to new players -

Sometimes this is true. Sometimes, however, there is no reason to not be a dick. Let me explain:

If I enter a thread and see people saying something incredibly wrong, so I say: (Spoilering to not make this post HUGE)

Damp's window is about 2x a normal GI, that's huge. NMs IS infinite. It lasts the entire duration of his stance until he's forced to swing. Downside? It only does about as much as damps if you instantly GI with it, and if you don't instantly GI, you're a sitting duck as they can step and LAUNCH PUNISH you. And if you're able to be launched punished in this game, you're eating 100 damage.

Also why do people seem to think UBs are good in SC? They RARELY are even usable, let alone good.

And I get a response like:

Talk about You, RARELY unblockables? RARELY? Most unblockables are made to make people react, Astaroth's 44B (supposedly getting nerfed) causes someone to step, lots of characters are used this way, Cerv's 44A+B catches people who try to wake up and not roll, Yoshi's... jesus christ Yoshi's just got awesome ones... Mitsu catches people who you launch on wake up, there are TONS of uses for EVERYONES brave edges, except I can't figure out while rising A+B with Damp... Unblockables aren't ALWAYS ment to hit, altho some do like Sieg's, but Alpha's sucks, it is completely useless and his only one... Compared to Setsuka's SCIV, I would rather have hers back, had range, and it was a good follow and fake out for b:A. So if YOU would kindly stop spreading MISINFORMATION, and just keep your hands and mouth occupied on your boyfriends tool, we would all be happier.

(And yes, this was an actual response)

I'm not exactly going to hold back on calling you out as a scrub. You're pretty much telling me you don't have a willingness to learn, and you want to play your own way (which is an incorrect way). And to be honest, too many new players here act like this. They don't know what they're saying and they will argue their point TO THE TEETH whilst insulting you all the while.

Pretty much: If vet players need to be humble - so do you guys.

Crikey, that was an actual response? Bloody hell... that's just... O.O

You'd be surprised how often things like this happen if I try to enter an argument currently in progress.

Which is why I've refrained and closed the thread if somebody hadn't already.

Well, I haven't noticed very many dickish people here.
A couple here and there, but not many.
Most of the people I've come in contact with are pretty civil.
Maybe I'm just lucky enough to unintentionally avoid the assholes.
Though I do try to be a civil as possible with what I post. That might help.

I'm gradually realizing that my post doesn't have much of a point to it.
Oh well.

?!? What is this thread about???
...im sure im since 2008 here(correct me if im wrong)
But the mst thing i see here and there is a lot of sarcasm...but that doesnt mean the poster is a Di** or Bi**!
Just like Mokamoka827 say..most people are civil here..
You should visit some german communitys...lol it doesnt matter what ya post..anyone is sitting and waiting to quote and destroy anything you gonna post...but im fine here...just read a lot and dont post on every thread you see!
Watch/Read and Enjoy!

Lol at the random bit at the end: "So if YOU would kindly stop spreading MISINFORMATION, and just keep your hands and mouth occupied on your boyfriends tool, we would all be happier." Why do I get the feeling that the poster was VERY deep in the closet at the time of posting?

TBH, I deal with stuff like that all the time around the internet. Nothing new to me, at all, haha. Usually I just reply with a little quip. In his case though I kind of just facepalmed.

Shit like that should not be tolerated under any circumstances. I hope the one who wrote that was given a warning at least. We have an infraction system for a reason.

Yup, he was warned.

Being a so-called "dick" on the internet usually serves as a guise for one's own insecurity.
At the same time, taking offense to "dick" behavior on the internet displays low self-esteem.

It's actually kind of sad that people sulk over petty insults on a social message board.

Also, word to the wise. Being a potty mouth in your post doesn't help your case. It just makes you sound ignorant. Take an Internet Psych course, or a course in Sociology of the Internet. You'll understand why name-calling in a message serves to hurt your argument. Let's just say, it makes you seem 10 years younger than you probably actually are.

There should be a higher age restriction on this site.

Oh, we still have that?

What is damn-I-suck still doing here?

Everyone gets put through hell. Ask any NBA player about their rookie season in the NBA. They get put through hell. Even the good rookies aren't safe from this hell, but I think sometimes it can go a bit father. There is a limit of how much hell someone could be put through.

Edit: Just read his post....

Shockingly....he kind of making sense. I mean I brought smash into my anime club, which is full of middle schoolers(mostly 6th graders and one 8th graders) and guys who think since they got the game on launch day they are godlike. And there were two people who played it like it was meele. in other words, it was scrubcity. I'm not no pro smasher or anything. I'm just a player that has a fully functioning brain of what to do in Smash. But I kind of got in trouble with or supervisor. I was pretty much shitting on anyone that did something dumb said uneducated information and etc. There were times where I called everyone and scrub in the damn club and almost got kick out. So after those days we had Smash in the anime club. I learned that calling someone a scrub, while they are just trying to have fun makes me look like a dick. So guys....it's not always a good thing to act like pros and way our dicks and egos around. So yeah...there is both sides for ya.

So... in damn-I-suck's opinion...this is what is happening right now?

Average/Pro player @ noob (damn-I-suck...):

Then the noob (damn-I-suck) runs and cries about it?

Seems pretty accurate to me, lol.

Just checked damn-I-Suck's profile.
28 years old. Posting on an internet forum asking why everyone is being penis-y.

I can't take this seriously. I wish this was an April Fool's Joke.

Being (rightfully) called a scrub when I first started posting on soulcalibur.com was the best thing that ever happened to me calibur wise. It forced me to man up and get better.

Yeah, getting called a scrub can be just the kick in the pants you need to motivate you to improve your game. Nothing wrong with it in and of itself.

I partially agree with damn-I-suck. Seeing how some new members are treated on 8WR is plain ridiculous. I've been around since early sc.com (~2004) and I have never seen so much hate as now

The mods do have to sort of walk a tight rope to be fair. You want to put them down to motivate improvement or at least stop them from spreading misinformation and confusing those who do want to learn. But then again tons of times it just hurts a fragile ego and leads to flaming which is even more intrusive than the scrubby comments were before. Still sometimes it just seems like provocative taunting which can in no way lead to a good outcome.

youll always be a scurb in my heart corw <3

Why is everyone such a dick? Because people are what they eat.

Not my fault god made them taste good.

Also FYI to everybody not in the know, breaking this rule is what generally garners criticism: http://tinyurl.com/d3gz9vg
