Omega Pyrrha Matchup

CheeseOfTheDay

[10] Knight

any tips against Opra? Didn't played her much but from what i saw it doesn't matter how big pushback is, it wont work against her if there is -15-16

thx, yes it's a big punish there

from what i found her 66B mixup can be easily avoided without her basic guessing game, from any range (until we have wall behind), with just backstep to B+K.

66B on wakeup, with is rollable on left side, we have always a guaranteed BT K if we lay with head towards her (like after her A+G). Otherwise most of time we can wsB her after one roll. We can also rollout her 1K on left side if we lay head towards her and do BT K.

NSA_B punished by 6K_6A
DNS B punished by 6K but only when blocked from close range, other wise no punish

Apparently the match is much more even than people think it is. I'll have to go up against Raymus's O Pyrrha in the next couple to confirm (he used to push my shit in back in the day but I think I've improved as a player recently so we shall see).

But according to him, GS B GS B GS B and more GS B (I would think 66B will work as well). Smash her gauge, play defensive and you will win. According to him, O Pyrrha lacks a good mix-up game and Nightmare is a better whiff punisher than she is; so spacing is the key.

Same as the match-up as normal Pyrrha. Get ready to get punished but a defensive playstyle and NM's huge damage should keep him in the game. Step her when you can and learn your punishes cause some step whiffs will whiff on off-axis.

I personally believe its one of Nightmare's weakest match-ups but I have no offline experience in the match and this is the strategy relayed to me by Singapore's top O Pyrrha player and others in the community. I have smashed all the O pyrrha's I have fought online however and the strategy works well against the good ones.

throws are always good against greeks.

keep in mind 1A6 blocked GS A GIs all verticals... and 1A blocked and wait... will beat out anything that beats out GS A.... although this applies to pretty much all character... its a bit more useful here.. because most greeks can't resist block punishing you... so they'll either try to stab you or 236A you...either way... if they try they are asking for a beating.

in general.. you should think of block -> mixup her with throws/3(B) or 3B there are a lot of places to bait her into thinking you're punishable when you're not... and you should take advantages of those moves.... you need lots of patience in this match up.....

you should just look at the style she likes to play....

does she like to
1) turtle and block punish.
2) space and whiff punish.
3) play aggressive upclose and take advantage of her speed and try to prevent you from backstepping by throwing out

those 3 are probably the most common styles of pyrha/omega's style.... each style have it's weakness... although most players will try to mix it up... but usually they have a general preference....

two problems with 1A6 though...
1A6 does not TC if you do empty GS, so 236A should usually punish NM for it
her CE should punish consistently too. maybe not at max range but that's about it

like i said above.

1A6 GS A fails
1A (blocked) will be ok

both needs to be done at tip

You need to Side Step her more than Back Step.
Oh no no! That's too easy a statement to make. Generally you want back step since it covers the most options. And puts you in optimal position since from a range your options are safer. If sidestepping>backdashing it means she's in your face and that's not optimal...you have to respect 236A, you have to respect her block punish at this distance.

I think you have to pay attention to what moves she is using and make your decision to either backstep or sidestep. She can cream you pretty hard for backstep depending on the frames you're at /how soon you backstepped relative to when she attacked. You don't wanna get backdash caught with DNS B or 66B thats gonna be painful, or God forbid she did 66B+K cause she predicted your backdash.

For sidestepping you've gotta worry about 66A (though not super damaging), 236A, and 4AB. the latter two hurt a lot. Generally speaking though I think it's safe to say that a backstep at the wrong time will be worse than sidestepping at the wrong time.

long story short.... if you didn't have much problems fighting Sophie in SC4 or before.... SC5 fighting Omega have never been easier..... but please keep in mind back then it was definite advantage for Sophie... now... it's hard to say...

Keev would disagree afaik. Especially after the patch.

He still beat Dina in the last one.

As i said earlier, I would think that NM theoretically will have a hard time but using the strategy listed above I have been very competitive against the online Omegas and Raymus says the match-up is much more even than the theory would suggest.
