Mitsurugi General Discussion and Q&A

I can say that having a good quality stick with nice parts is what made me come back. It's like driving a Ferrari in a road race vs. using a Geo Metro.

Back on topic: As a Mitsu player since SC1, the beauty of his style has always been that he is generally equipped to handle every situation. He may not be equipped to be the best in every scenario, but he has solid tools at almost every level. This lends well to mixups, and being able to dictate the flow of play.

I look at it as Mitsu being the Ken/Ryu of this game, or the Paul Phoenix (as I am a Paul player as well). There's a certain simplicity to his moveset and character that makes him good in most matchups, and if you're effective at mixup and fishing for juggle opportunities he can do amazing damage in a short period of time. A beginner can be effective with him because of this, but there is still much to be said for him at high level play as well.

Pissed about losing Relic, though. I played some SC1 over the weekend in a retro gathering, and I wasn't aware how much I missed it until then.

hi, ive only played SCV for a week now, but ive learned some good mitsurigi mix ups and i know how to properly use his mist stance

what i still havent learned to deal with though are mashers from speed characters. it seems no mater how long i wait, or how perfect a chance i seem to get, every time i attack its blocked or out sped by another attack, even though im using mitsus faster attacks. its really annoying, and im tired of losing to players who dont even mix up there attacks, but simply keep spamming a basic string. also often times trying to side step these enemies is fatal, as they all seem to have horizontal moves with great step range and speed. (stupid natsu....)

also i often have problems recovering once down, every time i roll i seem to get caught anyway, and gaurding on wake up seems to just get me trapped in the same loop again. i tried learning the ukemi system but its really weird and is going to take some time for me to learn

thanks for any and all help

The most reliable way to beat bad players is to learn to punish their unsafe moves/strings (see the matchup thread) and then just block and punish until they kill themselves.

Although learning all those punishments takes quite a bit of effort grinding it out alone in training mode.

I have a question:

Apart from 2kb, which is too unsafe for me to use semi-regularly, what are Mitsurugi's low options? 6B2 is decent but I get the JF version damn near all the time which is slower. Does he have any other viable low options?

there's 11A, it's slow as hell but not as slow as 1A. there's also mist KA which isn't that great either. your best bet is grab I guess.

@ Dazzler

practice 6B2 its not that hard.

- 6B2 (20Dmg) poking/force the Opp to crouch and mix it up
- 1K Roundender/ Setup 4B
- 2K

frankly i think im playing mitsu totaly wrong here...
i play really agressively or so i think so after hits start getting traded from blocks, i keep trying to attack after i guard something because i think i have the advantage and then get punished instead, also mitsus 1a seems stupidly easy to read on down, and toe poke gets rolled easly and my 1b or 3b always seems to wiff even if there not rolling.

also i really have hard time on get up game, ukemie in this game has such wierd timing, and often time every time i try to roll im hit, even by attacks that are vertical lows and at a long range (so they should have ben easy to roll side)

yo, so ive ben playing SCV (maining mitsu of corse) for like 3-5 weeks now and im getting pretty mad at the game.
i only fight A-B rankers/ experenced players because im trying to learn the game quickly, and one of my major head aches is pressure and wake up game, also mitsu him self

warning, long rant

to get in detail, i have tomany matches were i carefully wait for a punishable or atleast looks punishable attack from a player, and then get over ridden or blocked, against players who block often i have no problems with as i can deploy mind games and mix up, but then there are the players who are use to blocking low/teching grabs out of reflex, and only seem to attack and nothing more.

it pisses me off to play 20 games in a row were the reasons for me losing are pretty much the same 2 things, 1. got nocked down, and no mater how much i rolled/ukemied/gaurded i kept getting attacked or 2. pressure non stop, and the moment i break it and gain momentum, i lose it in a second (because most of mitsus lows are ass due to speed and telegraphing)

i dont have this problem wen i fight people around my experence level, infact i dominate them rather strongly, its always some A ranker maining Maxi or nightmare able just to steam roll me without any effort (and those are just the worse case match ups, still have problems with most of the roster)

i think my main problem is that mitsu is to damn simple, he feels to easy to read and even easier to counter wen im fighting, im thinking about 2nding a character like pat or cervy just so i can have those few frames more of basic speed i keep getting wiffed or punished out of.

should i try and main another character? or keep up with mitsu?

Does playing with Mitsu feel natural to you? Or does it feel forced?
to be honest mitsu feels the most natural, but ive only played him, the only other character i tried before him was seig back during the first 2 days i had the game rented. wen i bought it i mained mitsu because he was recommended to me, and for a while i really liked him since he was simple and i didnt think ide get so seriouse about SC
and even wen i did get serious i was told he was a good character any way and even now he certainly feels like it, but not good in the way ment for me.

I would just look around at the other characters to see if there is anything better you like. I did the same in SCIV, I originally mained Taki but ended up maining Sieg in the end despite them being totally opposite in many ways. Other thing to do is learn how to make reads and learn the match ups better.

my main fear is that i dont know the potentials of the characters, i like player characters that dont lose face infront of vet players, i dont want to end up like ezio (btw i did actualy recently see 1 ezio player who was amazing, but i just think he's special)
i guess thats a stupid fear though, ile start looking around

You're making out Ezio to be some uber terrible character, when in all reality, he isn't that bad. I main him and as far as character strength goes, he isn't quite as bad as certain other characters.

i didnt even know anyone seriously mained ezio, and i really dont want to insult you for doing so, i just feel its a uphill battle. every time i fight a ezio, they're easy wins because ezio has many gaps in his strings.

I think you are trying to be too technical. Sometimes the simplest attacks are the most effective, like AA and BB, instead of always trying to land the killer move.

Not to mention if you swim with sharks, you will be eaten.
thats why i hang with bat man, he brings shark repellant
