I'm posting this to get input from the people who care about the 8WR online tournaments.
Let's be honest, last month's tournaments, which showed such huge potential, turned out to be a big mess with people dropping out and not doing their matches. Please let me know your opinions on why that was, but I think the problem was we tried to go too big this time. There's only so much hype to go around and so much that players can actually focus on, and having such a long tournament and the side tournaments just sapped everyone's enthusiasm for any one single tournament.
For next month I plan to scale back. Certainly no Swiss tournaments, and probably a smaller player pool for the DE tournaments. I'm also considering possibly changing to single elimination. I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on that. The benefit would be that we could (oh wow) actually get it done in one month, and peoples' attentions spans wouldn't be taxed, the down side is, of course, that players might get discouraged after losing only one match and being knocked out.
Another option to keep people enthusiastic about the thing is to offer prizes. I probably could do something, but I do have 2 kids to feed, and I'm such a tightwad too. :P But I'll look into it. Or I could put the burden of prizes on the entrants and charge a fee to enter, then hand out the money to the winners, like 70/20/10, or 80/20, or 70/30 That would keep people interested til the end, but it would discourage lower level players from entering and it would just end up being a Xeph/Partisan/Enkindu-fest, which isn't necessarily all-bad, but I want these tournaments to be fun and accessible to all SC players, so I don't think I want to do that.
Please let me know what you all think. Sign-ups for whatever we end up doing next month will be going up soon, so watch the stickies.
