SCV Ivy FAQ & General Discussion

This thread got mad bitches O.o
What are you doing here? =P I will send my Ivy minions to hunt you down at EVO!

Going back to SummonCalamity's and Paranormal_Oreo's discussion:

It was a pain to read all that. What we know for a fact is that SC5 Ivy is not SC4 Ivy. She is a worse character in general. She is also much "simpler to use. SC5 Ivy is definitely not among the best characters in the game, however, she is still good. The patch changes made her more viable (even the dreaded backdash nerf). She has good punishment game (both block and whiff), good zoning, good throws, good evasive options, good guard break, decent BE's. Her CE is one of the best in the game, not reactable = creates strong 50/50 mix-ups.

She has by no means lower than average speed. She is a fast character, faster than Siegfried and Nightmare. It's just her ranged moves are slow, but they always were in previous SC games.

Her NH damage is probably the only somewhat below average thing she has which is probably why a lot of people think she is so bad in the first place because she doesn't have all those strong combos after a simple launcher. You need to take advantage or her other strengths and put some time into mastering her, because despite being "simpler" to use she is still one of the most difficult characters to use in the game imo. She isn't Mitsu haha.

My argument of Ivy being good in SC5:

3B

truth has been spoken XD.
I abuse this move alot when I'm at frame disadvantage to a maximum of -8 f . This move causes miracles!

Dunno what's SummonCalmaity's problem with the new Ivy. I enjoy her alot and she has many good tools to work with.

I'm loving the pseudo-frame traps she has now. I just need to learn her frames a bit more and I'll feel REALLY good coming into EVO. >:]

Did anyone see the "offical" combo guides of some characters?
Because I didn't hear anyone about it in here and the Ivy one had a really weird follow-up on W!

W! 7B+K 6[A] appears to combo. No use for it because 6B8 does more but it does look awesome.

Edit: Found the vid. Around 1:36 you can see the combo. 2:20 tech trap is REALLY interesting as well.....

Ok, for those of you who are going to EVO representing the Ivy Arena, I have a surprise for you. Ivy is pretty fast compared to Nightmare, but Nightmare relies on pressure and mix ups correct? Well, there's a move that Ivy has that throws Nightmare completely out of his stance. That move is 8a+b.b/8a+b.b... I've done alot of testing with CPU Nightmare on very hard, and he CANNOT punish 8a+b(b)/a+b.b. If Nightmare goes into 3(B)~k, the kick would miss and 8a+b(b) would hit. Plus you it doesn't have to do it on hit, you can also use this move on guard, because he CANNOT punish it at all, if the opponent trys to, Ivy would be too far away for it to hit. Now also, I know, I know, I know, Nightmare is a big guy, and you are probably think I'm wrong, but I'll tell you a secret... He doesn't have that much range. If you have any Nightmare players in your pool, space them out, pull the fastest move out there. If you're confused about what I just said, then tell me and I'll try to post a video up of what I am talking about. Good Luck Everyone. NO PRESSURE :P

Now, again. If you're going to EVO and you have a Alpha Pat player in your pool, then you need to play very very safe against him. He punishes 100+dmg and hes not the character you would want to use 1k/22;88k with, because he gets a free 2143aB or something like that. 1k/22;88k is -20 on gaurd, thats pretty unsafe. Also, Alpha Pat CAN punish 8a+b(b), so do yourself a huge favor, do not use it.

Nighmare can punish 8A+B(B) with iFC 3B, dash 66K, 3B_(B) and 66A. The NM player I frequently play knows how to punish it. 3(B)~GS allows a mix-up with GS B or GS cancel into FC 2B+G_2A+G or a normal grab. If you just lay on the ground after getting hit by 3(B) at tip range GS B hit's you and FC 2A+G_B+G picks you up (The NM player I play says FC 2B+G_A+G gives +7 after picking you up from the ground); all his options can be back-teched though^^.
After 8A+B(B) FC 3B is a guaranteed punish and is -2 on hit and does 30 dmg at tip range.
dash 66K leads to a annoying GS mix-up or to a w! for 100ish dmg (e.g. 66K~GS B, iagA w!, 2A+B)
66A leads to guaranteed high dmg on NH and to really good tech-trap opportunities.
And if the 2nd hit of 8A+B(B) gets JG it leads to a normal 3(B) and we all know that getting hit by NM 3(B) is not funny.

Edit: forgot to mention that 8A+BB is also unsafe against NM. NM can punish with 6A, iagA, 4K and 6B.

...*raises hand*...

EDIT: if soul doesn't want to
Ok.

Right now I only want to know who is interested. Then I will talk to Eli123s and we will pick someone. I figured this SA could use a third mod because it's so huge. I will still be able to edit stuff because I am a super mod on 8WR.

I don't mind and I'm kinda motivated^^. But are you sure you want to hand over a position like that to a newbie?

A lot of your posts are informative and you seem to have a lot of knowledge and good understanding of Ivy, which is why you caught my attention, so I wouldn't call you a newbie!

Ring isn't stopping moderation, just trying to help with the Soul Arena traffic, I'm guessing there are not allowed to be 3 differen't mods for any arena, but Ring can always moderate as a Super Moderator, his name just won't be advertised in the moderators list.

In short he isn't stepping down, just more like stepping into the shadows.
