The future of Soul Calibur

This thread is for the discussion of what you feel and/or hope we will see in future installments of Soul Calibur, either in the form of new games, or in DLC updates to the current game. This can be about the story, or fighting mechanics, or characters, or artistic direction, or music, or game modes, or whatever.

I personally would like to see a prequel or a reboot myself.

I know that without a lot of work the character models used cannot be much amended but I really would like to see some more CAS content. I'm just that kind of guy.

A reboot would make things seem desperate. The game needs to expand somehow, remember Mortal Kombat Deception Konquest Mode? Something like that, only incorporate it for online play.

MK did a reboot and I think it was pretty successful.

I'm not too crazy about a conquest mode. That's like making a whole MMO in addition to the fighting game. One or the other will probably suffer since we already know they're strapped for time and money due to Namco funneling all their resources into Tekken. I'd be happy with just a complete story mode and real arcade endings.

MK9 pretty much did everything right. Solid story, game play from scratch, variety of game modes, 1v1, 2v2. Since its last game before MK9 was a bit of a failure even with Batman, that really warranted a reboot since it was pretty much rock bottom.

I just think SCVI needs something else online wise with the competitive play and CaS cause that's all it has. A Conquest mode, Co Op mode, different game modes, cinema mode. Anything lol.

Maybe it needs to do the MMO brain washing thing where you can only unlock certain clothes in certain months, that'll keep them hooked D:

Honestly it's kinda hard for me to chose which one to vote for at the moment because on one hand I believe they should continue the story (while improving gameplay hopefully) but then on the other hand if they did a reboot or just remade the privious installments like Soul Blade and Soul Calibur, that would be pretty cool too.

Like imagine you have indvidual character storymodes (kinda like in 5 but with more CGI clips) and you play as Siegfried and mid story you turn into Nightmare and play as him til you're set free from Soul Edge's control by Raphael.
Watch and seeing the young knight rise,fall, and come out of the ashes of dispair to fight against (instead of with) Soul Edge.
I'm thinking it would cover both Soul Edge and Soul Calibur's stories if they did something like that.
Well I would hope so anyway. Cus if they did something like that I'd be for it.

This is a tough choice for me. A part of me wants to say reboot but another side says no. But I want to give you my Pros and Cons in order for me to decide this one out.

Continuing The Story Following The Events of SCV
Pros:
*The new characters from SCV will get a second chance to flesh out
*The entire story mode that Project Soul had planned will explain everything that we as fans have been debating for a long time (i.e. If Viola is Amy, Leixia and Xiba are Kilik's kids with Xianghua, The Malfested angle, and Z.W.E.I.'s origins)
*Bringing back old play mechanics (bringing back the old Guard Impact)

Cons:
* There may not be a Soul Calibur VI should either Project Soul don't announce it or worse, disband.
* Fans are still crying foul for every other reason
*Namco Bandai is treating Project Soul like a stepchild in favor of Tekken right now.

Fill in the story between SCIV and SCV
Pros:
*All our mains return
*A suitable time frame (set a year or up to 5 years the maximum)
*Getting an in-depth look at what really happened all those years in between and possibly rectifying them by altering them before the events of SCV take place

Cons:
*Although it will be a sequel to SCV, many people will somehow confuse this for an alternate timeline, which is not. So to clarify the timeline, it would be SB/E - SC - SCII - SCIII - SCIV - SCVI - SCV (Think about how Street Fighter did their timeline from SFA- SF1- SF2- SF4- SF3)


Reboot the series starting with SE
Pros:
*All our mains return including characters from SE, who deserve a complete makeover in terms of design, moves, etc.
*A long (and I mean LONG) storyline that should be told through Edge Master (from SE to SCII), Zasalamel (from SCII through SCIV) and Algol (from SCIV to preventing the events of SCV from happening or at least altering them)
*A long roster complete with tons of single player content and other cool stuff (like bringing back Museum Mode, Weapon Master Mode, Exhibition Mode)
*Endless hours of replay value
*Guest characters could possibly be DLC

Cons:
*It would take a lot of time and money for Namco to shelve out to Project Soul to make this happen
*They would have to add every character and appease the fans plus making sure every character has a different style
*Project Soul would have to bring more than their A Game if this is to happen but only that should Project Soul decide to join a new gaming studio or somehow get fans to petition to Namco, it may or may not work.


Prequel before the events of SE
Pros:
*A possibility of having minor characters like Kong Xiuqiang and Chai Xiangfei as well as ancestral characters of other established characters come in the fray
*A possibility to learn the origins of Soul Edge and possibly Soul Calibur
*We'll also learn if any of the ancestral characters were the parents of the established characters
*Diving more into the Soul series lore even further.

Cons:
*A slight disinterest in people wanting to play a game without their mains being in it despite that they have the same moves as the established characters
*Some will disapprove of this as a means that the series is taking yet another left turn away from what the fans want while some will be enlightened to know more into the Soul series lore.


So there you have it, My pros and cons for each one. So, if I had to choose , it would come down to either a reboot (most likely the possible choice) and tie between what happened between SCIV and SCV or continue onward from SCV (but with more content for story mode to unravel the truth more).

But yes I do agree that the story should continue from SCV. The characters they have now have excellent potential to be better story-wise, and gameplay-wise. Yes that includes Leixia.

Okay I got an idea from reading you guys/girls ideas.
1. I thought that they could maybe continue the story but maybe like dragonball z they can have stories of the past, and because of everything is in dlc they can have dlc stories maybe they can make it so you can but all of soul blade stories and soul calibur and work their way up but thats a lot of stuff
2.soul edge and calibur can bust the time space continuiem and maybe they could have all charecters and update everyone and maybe revamp all move sets like maybe give people complex moves like the tekken games conquest would be fun cause I'm just that type of guy who likes rpg, and they can put in mini games like tekken bowling or volleyball or mini games like mortal Kombat Armageddon with race cars wait wait wai they can bring backthe created sc3 charecters and fix some of their broken styles

That would work but then again with both swords disrupting time and space, not to mention opening Astral Chaos, that would have everyone in that world for the remainder of the series plus it would be hard for everyone to have different moves from the ones their successors or predecessors have.

I actually would enjoy a much more elaborate story. I dont care what these tourney guys say *coughcough* I enjoy a good story. More options for other modes to keep the hype going I think would add a wonderful addition as well.

I thought I was ripped off cause I went to comic con last year and they were all talkin bout how the guys from dragonballZ or Naruto (arent they the same thing?) were working on the story and they had this bitchin thing all worked out, then I get then game and I blasted through story mode in about 20 minutes. I felt jipped. Then I played the rest of the game and was satisfied. But still, the game seems to be missing something for me. Rather thats a longer story mode or what ever i dunno.

I must agree with HRD. When I first got into Soul Calibur, it was it's story and characters that really fascinated me, and the gameplay was super fun, but not too complex to play. So as the 5th one was approaching..it made me think that the story would go deeper and that all the characters would be involved in a fleshed-out story mode. But I think the team got too worried about making it a tourney-worthy game, that they forgot all about the story and character elements that alotta fans, including myself, really liked. The story of SCV was not only very quick, but was very disappointing to me. So as for the future..perhaps a drastically updated version of Soul Calibur V(where all characters are actually involved), bringing back some fan favorites like Setsuka, Zasalamel, and Talim for example..and giving the characters ARCADE ENDINGS! xD.....or just continue to SC6 and call it Soul Edge 2 so it can seem like a fresh start, and yet it will still continue from SC5...but this time get different writers..& have some sort of deep story mode where all the characters are involved. And arcade endings of course..please :D.
Oh..and for the future, Project Soul should definitely give more explanation to their new characters..because as for characters like Natsu, Xiba, Leixia, Zwei, and Viola..we have a lot of important questions left unanswered..
