Dampierre Q&A / General Discussion

the whole point of dampierre is to out last your oppenent

there is a reason why most of his moves are flashy and really lenghty

PB punches taking 6+seconds to complete

B!E! kicks taking 5 seconds

actually alot of the matches i won with dampierre are timeouts . or 5 seconds left on the clock

when the it comes to down to 5 seconds left in a match the oppenent loses their cool and tries everything to kill you ( this works to your advantage really well)

Aw...you guys don't think 33*99BK/33*99bA+B+K is good for rushdown? Do you think the kicks are too unsafe to risk whiffs at tip range or...? I wanna know everything I'm doing wrong too xD

Thank you so much guys what you have all said is very helpful. I shall test these out and try to readjust my gameplay to be more patient. I always knew 11B was awesome, but it sounds like I have been underestimating it. I need to keep practicing for getting B!E! down at all times since that is a good 100 damage when put together. What is this t-tap method that was mentioned earlier? In general, are there any good methods to always scoring B!E!, offline methods or online methods? Even offline I find that I mess it up sometimes.

I often rely on muscle memory although it does fail me a few times. Since the move has so many hits, you can create your own timing that you can try and remember. OOF has the best consistency with the move so it's best to ask him.

This is definitely going to be a slow process of readapting for me, but I can already see some basic results especially with fishing for 11B, which has now become one of my primary moves of choice. I also am trying to do more throw setups again and those seem to work well. I'm actually in the 8WR lobby right now in case anyone is interested in playing. Thanks again guys.

And yeah I have been looking up footage of Oofmatic's Dampierre. He's really inspiring to say the least. I need to keep studying those.

For B!E! I rely on muscle memory first, audio cues second, and visual cues third, and because of that I'm not only very consistent with it offline, but I'm also pretty consistent online on a variety of different connections (even some 3 bar ones).

I never mash B!E! at all, only precise inputs.

I trained myself at it using 3 methods;

The first is practicing it for hours on end in training mode. This includes doing it with volume, with no volume, with sound effects only, with sound effects turned off, and even by not looking at the screen at all. It's also good to practice it while listening to music or TV turned on in the background, because if you ever go to a tournament there will always be background noise that may distract you, so it's good to prepare for that type of thing.

The second method is by practicing it on the PSP version on the go (on my way to and from work, etc). The input timing on the PSP version is exactly the same, although it might not feel that way because the move animations on the PSP are choppy compared to the smooth fluid animations of SCV.

And the third is by listening to the sound effect of it on my MP3 player.

This method is a bit hardcore, but back when the PSP version came out, I recorded the sound effect of B!E! to sort of "brainwash" myself into having it as muscle memory. I put it in my MP3 player and just listened to it from time to time, sometimes even going to bed and falling asleep listening to it (like I said, it's a hardcore method). I posted it around here before, but here is the .wav file for it:

Oh wow thanks I'll give that method a try. I noticed earlier on that I found the sound effects to be a better way of going by it than the visuals, as I find Dampierre's visual kicks to be misleading to the actual inputs. With that being said you're right going by sound is something I cannot rely on given the various change of settings I may play at. I will definitely try to do a more hardcore muscle memory method of it since I can imagine how many more rounds I would have won over the last few months had I successfully landed every kick.

Although a lot of people say it, don't mash B!E as it's unreliable. Just practice on a regular basis and you'll eventually get the timing down. I tend to practice the move for about 20 minutes before I go online and it definatly helps.

Is Damp any good for tournament play? I feel like if you used him in a tournament it be amazing on how far you could get with him, I have no plans on doing that myself currently but I'm wondering what kind of potential does Dampierre have for tournaments?

Also, I am a new member on 8wayrun so I'd love to meet you all online (Xbox only) and I hope to have a good fight with all of you some time

every character is good for tournemant play. i dont believe in this tier stuff. just look at evo a supposed "crap" tier character won.

granted some characters are easier to pick up then others but i have stuck with damp and i dont plan on switching.

he can do amazing things if just keep practicing and improving as a player.

add me on xbl and we can dish it out some time. "GameShark97

No problem when I get home Ill add you happily, and I never really looked at the Tier List and I did hear about the Tira player who won EVO, I had to admit I was more than suprised but so happy since I've loved Tira since SC III. Im maining Dampierre also so I'd love to dish out soon.

If it means anything, I got 13th at both MLG tournaments and 3rd place at Toronto's major using only Dampierre.

I play on XBL often, usually in ranked. Message me and we can play sometime.

I have no doubt that he is very good but I'm not to shabby myself. Lately, I've been trying to land B!E! and so far I can get it about some of the time and usually I just spam like crazy. I'll gladly message you and I hope to see how I can fair up with you.

Ive been wondering do most people here prefer using Dampierre or using a CaS with his style, personally I use the CaS a bit more than Le Bello

real le bello is the only way to go for me. i find it funny using dampierre because of his abnormal height. in fact if you look closely he is pretty much the same height as nightmare. also i have noticed when doing his poker bluff B . his tophat is part of his hit box so you can hit people from farther away then you think.

You have to put in a lot more effort but it's certainly possible to win with him at a high level. There will be times where you may have to counterpick but you don't have to.

Mashing B!E is very unreliable and I wouldn't recommend doing it. Once you learn the timing for it, it becomes a lot easier to do. I still screw it up quite often but I'm a lot better at it now compared to when I used mash the input.
