Why do we play Raph?

i started w SC2 and i was a link player, i knew there was no way in hell he'd make it into the next game so i decided i needed a secondary. I love fencing so with Raph being a fencer, being fast, and originally being Spanish he just clicked w me.
Uhh I thought he was born in Rouen from the French Empire?? He did have Spanish-like music during his weapon exhibition in SC2 though.

game takes place in the 16th centery where rouen was owned by the Spanish(if im remembering my history correctly). that would explains why he danced flamenco in his weapon demo

16th century was around the Renaissance Period. I remember Rouen being under Norman influence during the Middel Ages and being an important trading port but not part of Spain during the Renaissance. It did trade with Spain though. Im sorry for causing this off-topic history discussion youngfox. Good thing Im taking European history this semester to refresh my memory haha.

I apologize for being unclear. It was not owned by Spain. Okay Normandy is basically the precursor to France, and Rouen was the historic capital of Normandy. One can say it was "French" for most of the time, though the English occupied it in history until King Charles VII recaptured it. That would explain how some people notice his Flambert and other English traits, such as his sword style. Today it is still part of France.

Please don't get me wrong. Im not trying to be a smart alec.

Maybe Raphael was influenced by Spanish culture since France borders Spain. Fencing was a European fighting style that had no clear origin, being prevalent among the Germans, Spanish, English, French, and Italians. Im not sure. Wow!! So much for a fictional fencer!! Well, that's why Raph is sooo AWESOME!!!

Btw...(I know Namco didn't include weapon exhibitions in SC4 and 5) Is Raph feeling old or something?? He stands like a lump during battle and doesn't dance anymore!! Come on Raphael, you may be chronologically 49 but you're still 32!!

Maybe he is too far into his own insanity and desire to find Amy to dance for us.......he is hell bent on finding Amy he has no time to entertain us ;-;

While I am not 100% about this statement but wouldn't rapier combat in terms of dueling be if nothing else perfected or refined by Capo Ferro? Or am I thinking of the wrong period of time? I haven't slept in a day or so, my brain is kinda mush.

I always wondered why Raphael does the Flemenco, as he isn't Spanish. But then I realized it didn't really matter all that much... Maybe he just likes the dance, lol.

And yeah, I wish he still danced around in combat. He looks tougher now, but he's supposed to emphasize speed technique over brute strength, which I thought was better illustrated before.

i think there was a gameplay issue w his standing dance. ive remember people here saying that the dance would put you into range of moves that normally wouldnt hit you in the beginning of the match

I think his "new" stance has to do with the whole vampire thing since SCIV. I guess they wanted to give him a different feel.

He actually still shuffles about a bit if you leave him crouching. I only found that out because I actually hold 2G down after a KO if one of may character's last attack leaves them in full crouch. That said, I'm glad I'm not the only one who misses that Flamenco swag. He was so much cooler when he was alive.

Raph is French, therefore, he has never been cool.

Hey we ain't sure if he's actually dead. It was confirmed that he died but he was revived. If his body is truly Nighty's host, then the current Raph is either a ghost who obtained a physical manifestation from Raph's powerful spirit or Raph freed after NM was defeated by Zwei.

I really hope this is sarcasm lol, but I respect your opinion. His being French is one of the things that make him great in my perspective.

Yeah, we need a story for Raph to explain all this. I kind of like the idea of his spirit being so strong-willed that it managed to remain apart from his body as a separate entity. Really awesome in a nonsensical fantasy/anime way.
