i totally feel you there. the slash combos are so abused i can smell them coming 5 hits in advance. i think they are top cause everyone uses that damn upper/lower slash combo. im personally offended that maxi is so low on the tier. maybe thats because not everyone can keep track of all his stance changes and where to go from each one. I personally main maxi and i think he is far from a garbage character. does anyone feel me on that?

Mmm, on the contrary, I get the impression that the reason why people think he's low tier is because he's rather easy to read/guess. His strings never seem to last very long in high level play.

i dont know the buttons, but there is a very common lower slash to upper slash combo that a ton of people use. it was very effective against my maxi at first but now im not so afraid of sophy.
can anyone explain to me what the "tier" is based off of. ive been reading this thread all damn day today, and i see lots of lists, but not exactly sure what EXACTLY they are based off of. please forgive my noob question

If you are talking about a specific attack then it's Sophie's 1AA.
Cass doesn't have any low to mid slash combos.
Also I think Cass is upper mid not top tier in SC4.

Basically it's factoring in all of a character's tools, and how effective they are in application vs the rest of the cast. There's a lot of different criteria, and there isn't an exact formula that can be agreed upon, so it's mostly subjective.
A move like Sophie's low sweep that you're talking about (1A,A) is not very effective outside of online play. It's easy to see on reaction and launcher punishable, despite it's high damage. If used sparingly it can hit some people, but if used as a primary mixup for Sophie, she'll be eating a lot of free launchers when it's blocked.

1. Just because she has alot of moves doesn't mean all of them are useful or effective.
2. I wasn't aware that she had a strong tech trap game.
3. IDK, most of her stuns are shakeable. Her combos do pretty decent damage. Nothing special though. It's not like she has Setsuka's risk/reward seeing as how, like you said, her frame data is terrible.

@NoFaceKiller: Yeah, she has some junk moves. She still has plenty of useful ones in her stances (Although she really can't stay in CL stance for long). Since she doesn't have Setsuka's risk/reward ratio (Not many characters do), she needs to have as much variety as possible. To put it simply, Ivy has a crapload of tools (Many with specific applications) at her disposal. None of them are singularly overwhelming, so she has to make proper use of them.
Edit: I'll admit I overrated her tech trap ability, but I still feel that she's abnormally strong in the combo department. One thing going for her stun combos is that she has a lot of moves to start them with.

Well technically there is criteria it's just right now people haven't had the game long enough so they give their opinions on how they feel the characters stack up at the moment.The longer the game is out the more concrete the tier list will become.
