i think the sky may have fallen on the SC franchise. Given the evidence I see two possibilities.
possibility the first: Namco was astonished at how much DLC they sold for a game that was rushed through production and released in an incomplete state and they're hard at work on the next installment which will be awesome and make us all very happy.
possibility the second: namco was astonished that a game so incredibly superior to tekken sold so few copies and they decided to scrap the series.
I guess there's a third possibility, one in which namco is just biding their time and haven't made a decision regarding the future of SC. I am personally shocked that tekken is more popular than SC. Its VHS vs BETA all over again.

Lolwhat. I'm pretty sure that SC5 sold over 1,000,000 copies, and before you say "links or it didn't happen"...

There. I think SC5 did well enough to continue the series, but the problems (I think) weren't SO bad that they are discontinuing the series. If they did, they would have said so already.

Namco needs to take a page out of coca-cola's book and release "soul calibur classic". i don't know what kind of content limitations they're working with but it would be great if they brought back all the styles, ever. they could set the game in hell, i don't care. I've developed the love/hate thing with SCV, i love/hate it hard. there's so much that's wonderful and unique and yet, so much that needs a ton of work. its probably just a pipe dream though, as the industry is moving away from the $60/disc game model in favor of shitty phone games. don't laugh, the most expensive talent (developers, code writers) are being pushed away from working on $60/disc game projects so their bosses can crank out 40 phone games a week. talent will follow money, the end is nigh
My gripe is that being what Tekken Tag 2 is soewhat incorperating.

The theory's been changed since that claim. SC5 was just a money maker to sponsoor Tekken but wasn't expected to sell that well though that didnt matter in the end.

I'm sure YOU think the sales were strong enough to continue the series, I'd like to know whether namco thinks the sales were strong enough to continue the series. don't forget they lowered the price to achieve those sales. face it, they forced the game onto the market before it was completed and they've discontinued the DLC prematurely. do those actions suggest they're committed to SC? as for telling us, don't hold your breath

I think we want a company that consistently produces good fighting games. That would be alright, BUT WHO DOES. Capcom would DLC whore, NetherRealm has only just come back, I NEED HELP DAMN IT.
Oh man, PLEASE not netherrealm. We'll end up with some retarded puking and farting character, or robots and cheesy superheroes f***ing everywhere.

Is it wrong that I read this and imagined Talim in a cowboy hat having a shootout with Mitsurugi on a dusty street?
Well, Project Soul was kinda getting there with Talim. Check out that cowboy hat and scarf and tell me she isn't channeling Clint Eastwood from "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"?

They scrapped all the best potential outfits for these characters. I mean an Ivy with long hair and a coverd body sounded absurd just saying that together but they did have it but never used it >_>

They should've had those outfits as 3P Costumes, you know, like the ones they had for some characters in Soul Calibur 1 and especially Soul Calibur 2.

Hate to jump on the bandwagon but the same thing happen with me. My first Soul game I actually owned and played started with SC2 and the thing that really drew me in were the characters and stories as well. The first character I played was Ivy through story mode since I was familiar with her after using her in the first game at an arcade I played. When it got to the destined battle against Cervantes, I had chills during their dialogue and closing dialogue. And then at her ending, I felt a rush of emotion too. And this kind of feeling applied to the other characters too. I loved the feeling and I liked how deep the storylines were even if they weren't deep in general. My views carried on through SC3 and even admittedly, SCIV.

SCV's story just didn't give me any feeling whatsoever like the previous titles. I mean it just was... Not well thought out in my opinion. And like Eliblue said, I had so many questions that didn't get answered even though the team said that they'd played important stuff *coughViolacough* lol The gameplay I'll admit is fun. Even though I wish the movesets were longer, it still is enjoyable in it's own rights but the story and lack of modes were piss poor to put it frank. Along with stories, I loved the creative mission modes that were included in the games, especially in SC3.

So yeah, I've said something like this before but I can't get my head around it. I do hope in Soul Calibur 6, they title it Soul Edge 2 because I think maybe it is best to retire the characters. Let's face it, they obviously don't care for the characters except for Ivy (obvious reasons why), Siegfried, & Mitsurugi since they didn't replace them.

I just feel maybe it's time to create a new cast. Let new stories unfold because it really does feel like the old cast is not needed story-wise anymore. I will miss the originals but I'd rather they create a new cast list instead of watching them screw up the originals like they did with Kilik when they made him a mimic. The only characters I can see staying are Yoshimitsu, Astaroth, and Zasalamel and possibly Ivy since she can't age. But yeah that's just me. All this inspires me to create my own weapon based fighting game though, that's for sure lol

I remember that picture. I thought she looked great. In her case, I think it would be cool if they changed up her aesthetic. I don't know about you but I would love to see a long haired Ivy dawning elaborate beautiful European styled clothing. Kind of like the unused concept work from her SC3 2p outfit. :)
