Im reaching out to anyone who knows anything about servers and more specifically problems that would cause intervals of unbearable lag.

So this all started about 3 or 4 months ago. What happens is I go into a room in player match and I'm sitting there waiting for my turn and after about a minute or two, everyones connection drops to 1 bar for about 5 - 10 seconds, then it creeps back up to 4 or 5 bars in about a 5 second period. one or two minutes later it does the same thing and this goes on indefinitely while im playing the game. When my turn comes up and I'm actually playing i can actually experience the lag. I can only see the bars between the rounds that im fighting but I know when it happens because for about 5 - 10 seconds the frame rate drops to an unplayable level and then when it speeds back up, everything is beyond repair. There is horrible input lag and everything is out of sync for the rest of the match. It is beyond frustrating. When it first started happening a few months back, I thought it was somebody else in the room that was causing it, but I soon realized it was me. I found this out by trying different games. Street fighter 4, tekken revolution, Virtua fighter, hell even Call of Duty all did the exact same thing. Out of the past 3 months I've had maybe 5 different occasions where i got online and it didn't do this to me, but the rest of the time it is just unplayable. I've called my ISP about 18 times now trying to get them to help and they keep INSISTING that it is something on my end. I'm 99% sure that it is a problem with them. Since this problem i have replaced my router due to their suggestions that my router may be the problem. Its not. The only other possible thing that it could possibly be besides my ISP is the Playstation network or my PS3 but I highly doubt it. I mainly want to know if anyone has experienced anything like this and what they did to resolve the issue. I want to make sure all my bases are covered before I call Skybeam and jump down their throats until they send someone to my house. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That is honestly really strange... Sounds like you're getting lag spikes. You use a corded router running into your Xbox360 / PS3 console, right? Corded connections usually get higher speed and more consistent connections over just setting your console's preferences to use wireless wifi. I realized wifi does have a lot of problems.

I used to have lag spikes 2 years ago, but I now have business class speed, 45 MBPS, upload speed of 650 KB (Killabites) of speed per second. I rarely ever get lag spikes, if there is lag it's usually because of the PING (the time it takes for their information to get sent to me, and vice versa) not the connection speed usually. So regardless if you live in the USA, you'll experience very high PING if you play someone from New Zealand for instance.

To me it sounds like your connection has issues, I would get your provider to get you a new router for sure. See if that helps, and if not you should probably upgrade your internet provider then... =D Hope that helps!!

There's a difference between Kilobytes (KB) and Kilo-bits, each kilobyte is basically 8 kilo-bits divided. THAT'S HARD CORE!!!!!!!!!!

its wired. Today is one of the rare days that it is actually working. I'm sure it won't last long though.

Sounds to me then you need a new router. And if that's not the problem it's the service provider. Usually when you get random spikes like that it means someone else in your house is uploading or downloading something, if you don't have a high upload speed rate. I notice sometimes for people who live waaaaaay out in the boonies often have laggier connections because the land lines out there aren't as good, but that's really rare. Check your service provider for an upgrade if you need.
