DARK SOULS 2- Praise the sun

I just thought I'd drop in to say that Caestus is a fantastic weapon if you haven't tried it.
Used it along side a Greatsword on my first playthough like I did with the Zweihander in the first game, but unlike then, it actually does damage and felt on par with the Greatsword if not better. Turned the character into an interesting hybrid of slow, long-reach attacks and very quick, short-range attacks.

Today however I started my 5th character, who is dual-wielding them at the moment, and they damage they do when you've got the STR and DEX for the A A scaling is really starting to get silly. I've been able to kill just about everything with a single L2...

My sorc has 20 int and 18 faith, probably why I can't get the set yet.

I'm having a hard time with my sorc in the wharf, always running out of magic.

My knight made it through Huntsman Copse and finished off Skeleton Lord and Executioner Chariot. Made it to Harvest Valley. He also accidentally killed Targray of the Blue Sentinels and scored the Blue Knights Halberd. Looks nice, but the move set is a little lame and lots of hit box issues. His armor is pretty heavy too. Not sure if it's possible to bring him back.

Honestly, none of the great swords or ultras have interested me in the slightest. Although I haven't found that many unique weapons either. I liked dual wielding, but I didn't like the lack of guard or parrying and I preferred the twin slash move set (ie two straight swords). How do you do the power stance criticals?

Right here folks, caestus are amazing. I'm trying to run an Akihiko build from P4A so I'm dual wielding them on the way to getting LIGHTNING FISTS.
The power stance is mad fun, but you have to commit to one stance usually. Holding a button for power stance makes choosing between parries and your strings kind of a bitch.
They can also stunlock into other things. Somebody hit me twice with a caestus and then combo'd it into an offhand greataxe swing for a kill.
Stunlock 2 stronk.

I do that.
My go-to PVP strategy on my first character is to maintain a very close range for pressure... If they're blocking, fish for hits with the Caestus L1 - If they attack, roll through it and uppercut. Combo into 1 Greatsword R1, after which everybody always rolls after stunlock like a moron, so you catch that with a Greatsword jump attack for the kill. Seems to work very well so far.
The one weakness I've found so far, beside the obvious "let's all use the stupid, OP magic that forces you to roll but can punish the roll with a 1-hit kill crap, ruining any kind of potentially decent fight we might have had" thing, is that he can't do anything if someone just sits behind a 100% shield. The new block-break attack is too easy to see and roll through, and you can't punish the roll afterwards. If they're stupid though, occasionally I get guard breaks...

I don't advise Lightning Caestuseseses.
Infusing weapons seems to reduce scaling to the point where most weapons are just flat-out worse for you doing so (Bleed and Poison weapons are remarkably useless in PVE I might add). Caestus are only so great because of that A A scaling... at C C C they'd be kinda meh I'd figure.

so i've recently been trying to see what the miracle soul appease does and it's pretty crazy.....assuming you hit the right things. the spell only hurts hollows, so i'm trying to find out what it and isn't considered hollow. obviously the undead guys in the forest and copse are but skeletons aren't. still testing it out on other guys atm. wonder if it works on certain bosses like vendrick or lost sinner.

I cleared the Shaded Woods of Lion Warriors, but only got 1 Lion Greataxe (and gloves)... How am I going to dual-wield them now? :/
I hate how the monsters stop respawning... Lion gear is rare enough, but there are rarer things that you might just never get no matter how many playthroughs you go through, what then?

Wow resonant soul is crazy strong for its 100 soul cost.

Also, sunset staff is nice. My sorcerer is becoming more archmage like now.

Bumped up strength and dex to 10 and 9, I can now use the fire long sword now. Damage is pretty good.

The Mage, Carillion isn't in majula and I finally finished the wharf too.

I need more attunement slots... And a good chime... And I need lightning for Copse.

Not sure what to level next.

That's it's minimum cost. The costs go up depending on how many souls you have I'm told...

I was really disappointed with the damage at 100 souls myself... it's about as strong as great soul arrow but with less casts, 2 slots, slower and with a soul cost. I haven't tested the damage of the higher costs myself, but apparently it does more damage so...

all of the resonant spells are pretty crazy assuming you have enough souls to get the better effects off. i don't really use the resonant souls, but i love resonant weapon and body. and to get carhilion to appear in majula you probably have to keep talking to him until he repeats lines. at least that's how most NPCs that go to majula behave.

bonfire ascetics
Well, I got the second pretty quickly after using the ascetic... I had no idea it would respawn the chests though, which is great. Thinking about it, I could go grab a free extra Yore Branch...
Even with the DEX scaling dual Greataxes are still weaker than dual Caestus, and much, much slower. :/

Dual Greathammer test coming up next, but I think it'll be the moveset you get with G.Hammer + G.Axe which was... okay...
I wonder if I can dual wield any whips yet... see what that's like.
