Trying to Redeem the SCV Newcomers

All you have is a skewed Google Search result that was powered by controversy in 2008 and a roster change in 2011. You guys make baseless claims like "people would think she's from DOA" and "she's not truly iconic even though she's one of the most beloved and recognizable characters in the series". Got any proof of that?
 
Stop trying to say Taki isn't one of the most iconic characters in the series. Namco even said that Taki, alongside Nightmare and Ivy, where the three most popular characters in the west. You try to act like she isn't, when her absence was one of the reasons SCV was hit with such a backlash. Anyways....

I'm just going to point out that you said this little gem not long ago:

I'm pretty sure this "contest" hints at something for SCVI. My guesses:

A) These characters are all in the game, which I really hope they're not, 'cause I'm already tired of similar movesets, we have sword+shield, we have great sword, now ninja swords as well?

B) Most likely one: all these characters got kicked from the next entry, the winner may be one they're trying to save or that may appear later as DLC.

That brings me to a question I've been wanting to ask you. Do you seriously think they'd cut more characters out after the SCV fiasco? You didn't answer me then, so I'll ask this now. That would be stupid to think that Siegfried, Mitsurugi, and Raphael are getting cut (the former two being franchise staples), and that Taki fans would be left hanging. Why did you seriously think that was the most likely scenario?

Taki was great in Inu Yasha. That animu carryover probably artificially propels her in popularity polls.

I figured out the joke. A hearty lol if you're suggesting that an anime that ended over a decade ago and has had no relevancy since then has influenced her popularity in the slightest. Also, Taki came BEFORE Sango. Soul Blade came out '95 while Inuyasha didn't debut until '96.

Just like how Maxi's popularity is driven by a mix of Elvis fans (player 1) and Billy Idol fans (player 2)

Well I don't believe you. This is the first time in forever I've heard anyone mention that old series, and the first time I've seen her compared to Sango at all.

Xiba feels like son goku ripoff, but like natsu they could redeem him.

Leixia is xianghua 2.0. No redemption bar better costumes.

Patroklos design is fine, but his eerily relationship with his sister makes me cringe. Personality wise he's fine. He'll change and become cooler.

Pyrrha designs are fine, but goodness she makes leixia's crybaby look less annoying. She just needs more backbone.

I'm also very agree with what you mentioned about the characters.
 
What you are arguing about is not personality - it's character traits. Both Taki and Natsu has personality of my shoes. Personality is something that coud only be shown in motion, how could somebody without having their minute of spotlight in the story show anything about their personality? Let's be honest here most of SC chars are like that. The only ones who are exception - are Seig and Sophitia - but just because those two was focus of the story most of the time, and, surprisingly, Ivy as we know quite much about her just by backstory and Viola - but that's by cheating from developers - there is nothing easier than writing an amnesiac (we should not know her past) mysterious (all development is internal, so we shouldn't see it) character.
Also about whole originalVSclassic characters. Probably a lot of people gonna disagree with me, but I'm tired of all those "original" characters and "unique" personalities (I mean generally in media) - beacause most of the time the whole "originality and uniqueness" - is just being mentally unstable, annoying or just out of place and time. As for Natsu it's obviously the last two (nobody talked like her in that time). Also main problem of new cast is that they are "too anime", while SC is more of the classic fantasy, more or less.
And Taki is quite unique and needed within SC cast, because she is the only one not bounded by family, love, guilt, greed or megalomania - and she could actually save the day sometime in the future, because cast, as for now, lacks, beside her, positive stoic character who lives by duty. Ok' Edgemaster counts too, but he is nearly non-existent in SC storyline. As for Mitsu - he is freaking berserk - calm one, but still - he does nothing, but fighting anybody standing in his way - and that's his whole role - he doesn't really need more.

On Natsu being a "rip-off" of Naruto, I'll have you know that many famous characters were created with some borrowed traits from other characters. We refer to the these as expies.

Nastu is an expy of Naruto, who is an expy of Son Goku, who is an expy of Sun Wukong.

Not allowing characters to borrow traits for others to create their own identity would be a total constipation on creativity.
